The zoo, which is considered the main one in Moscow<\/a>, is one of the most visited establishments in the capital. Both indigenous people and curious tour<\/a>ists willingly come here. Getting to the institution is not difficult – the entrance is at the Krasnopresnenskaya and Barrikadnaya metro stations.<\/p>\n

Story<\/h2>\n

It was founded around 1865. This happened at the suggestion of the Russia<\/a>n Imperial Society for the Acclimatization of Animals. It is important to say that this zoo is one of the oldest in Europe. He survived many hardships. In the 20th century, it was destroyed as a result of revolutionary battles. This was also served by the post-revolutionary years, periodic bombings during the Patriotic War. At this time, there was also a lack of funding. Now the country's main zoo occupies 21.5 hectares. Within the walls of the institution there are more than 5100 different animals – there are more than 1133 species.p>

Now the founders are actively engaged in repair and reconstruction. Recently, many pavilions and exhibitions have been opened. Animals are periodically replenished with outlandish species. There are plans to equip each enclosure with a video<\/a> camera for the purpose of round-the-clock online broadcasts. The bridge is also undergoing restoration work. The construction of such a pavilion as “China” begins. Animal feed vending machines are provided. Special applications are currently being developed.p><\/p>\n

It is best to start your tour by visiting the Old Territory. The main entrance – various species of waterfowl have found shelter here. Near the shore, where the bottom is shallow, flamingos move stiffly. There are jaguars and tigers near the pond, which is located next to the pavilion. The very first thing that visitors will see when entering the zoo is the Big Pond, where there is a large proportion of waterfowl. They live here both in winter and summer. This is available due to powerful compressors that maintain the required temperature in cold weather. But in winter here you can see a non-freezing polynya.p><\/p>\n

Local inhabitants are inhabitants of unique natural areas. There are also amazing small bird house<\/a>s here. This is the place where birds prefer to live. If offspring appear, then the chicks, along with rare birds, are caught and then transfer<\/a>red to a closed enclosure, which is located with walruses. Everyone will be impressed by the Giraffe named Samson – he enjoys the increased attention of visitors, lives in an old pavilion that was built in 1893.p><\/p>\n

As for the second floor, there is a museum of the entire history<\/a> of the zoo. Animals are allowed to be observed live, without bars. Penguins and various types of parrots live in the House of Birds. Kids will be delighted with the sloth. A 600 kg eared seal will also arouse interest – it is in the pool, where all the pinnipeds are. In the luxurious Elephant House, which is equipped with a pool, shower and fountain, there are Asian elephants – 2 females and a male. They were brought from Vietnam.p>

Do not pass by the exhibition called “Night World” – there you will see nocturnal animals. In the corner, which is located to the right of the main entrance, there are such animals as: vicu\u00f1as, llamas, capybara rodents, alpacas. This area also provides a circle for pony riding. The other sector is Arachnolandia, which is the home of the spiders. Be sure to see the enclosures with bears, wildebeest, tapirs, snow goats. There are also cats of various sizes – snow leopards, leopards.<\/p>\n

Look at the rock of birds of prey, an exhibition of amphibians, a greenhouse. You will be interested in cranes, ostriches, cassowaries, storks. If you have completed the entire Old Territory, you can now move to the new one.p><\/p>\n

Ponds are provided here – small, large – near them there are pelicans. Fluffy polar bears have a lot of people. Animal Island<\/a> is located in the very center of the zoo. On its square you can see Asian lions, polar wolves, Amur tigers, Himalayan bears. Everyone will be interested in striped hyenas, jackals.<\/p>\n

The upper area is the Exotarium, where there are expositions with aquariums, luxurious fish. Turya Gorka – a camel and a markhor goat live here. At the Savanna Animals exposition, you can see a large walking field inhabited by giraffes, zebras, ostriches, antelopes, and meerkats are also located nearby. The primate house has 35 species of monkeys. Of particular interest will be the orangutan, as well as the family of gorillas.p><\/p>\n

In the children's zoo there are turkeys, geese, chickens, roosters, sheep, goats. Throughout 2017, the zoo will be reconstructed. It is planned to open in 2018. After all the work, there will be a couple of contact areas, a cafe, an open lecture hall, a playground.p><\/p>\n

This can be done by public transport. Landmark – metro station Krasnopresnenskaya, Barrikadnaya – this is if you get there by public transport. And if by car, then the main entrance to the zoo is located between Barrikadnaya and Krasnaya Presnya streets. But there are also other entrances.p><\/p>\n
