There are not many countries<\/a> in North<\/a>ern Europe<\/a> that can be reached from Russia by car, bus<\/a>, or ferry. The sights<\/a> of Finland are unique<\/a> in their kind – you can go around them in two weeks of winter holidays<\/a>. Guests who visit Santa Claus Village in winter often do not know that in the summer time in this country is no less interest<\/a>ing. Ice sculptures and hotel<\/a>s in forest<\/a> lodges were invented in this country. Finland is a large city<\/a> with a typical European culture and amazing architecture, with rides, sculptural masterpieces and modern art museums. To the attention of lovers of sledding – the harsh and beautiful northern nature of Scandinavia with its thousand lakes, virgin forests and crystal waterfalls. The country of Moomin trolls, Gothic castle<\/a>s, cathedrals and open-air sculptures. And this is just a small list<\/a> of places<\/a> in Finland,<\/p>\n

Santa Claus Village<\/a><\/h2>\n

If on the eve of the New Year<\/a> from anywhere in the world<\/a> you write a letter with the address: “Arctic Circle, Lapland, to the Village of Grandfather Frost”, it will be delivered to a certain geographical point. Adults and children believe in miracles, because such a place really exists. This is the main attraction of Finland, which is remembered long before Christmas.<\/p>\n

According to Finnish legends<\/a>, the mythical character Joulupukki (Joulupukki) lived on the Korvatunturi hill, resembling ears, which is not far from the Russian border. The official reside<\/a>nce of Santa Claus is outside the city of Rovaniemi, 7 km to the north (2.5 km from the airport). You can get here by your car along the E75 highway or by bus number 8 from the city. In fact, there are several official residences of Santa Claus, where they bring mountains of letters with wishes, but this is the place that is known all over the world. The New Year's magic<\/a>ian still happens in the Mur-mur castle (near the Ranua Zoo in Joulukka) or at the summer cottage in Kuusa<\/a>mo.<\/p>\n

It is interesting<\/a>! If the opportunity presents itself, visit other Santa's residences with your children<\/a>. They are in Sweden and Norway, in Belarus and the Russian Federation. There is also a more remote option – a house in Alaska. On the eve of Christmas, work is in full swing everywhere, preparations for the main holiday have been going on for a whole year. Santa Claus takes a little rest closer to spring, when all this joyful New Year's turmoil passes.<\/p>\n

Monument to Sibelius<\/h2>\n

There is an object unlike any other in Helsinki. The singing monument on a hill in Taka-T\u00f6\u00f6l\u00f6 is the semantic accent of the Jean Sibelius Park. It was built more than 45 years ago, in memory of the work of a talented musician. Jean Sibelius is known throughout the world as a European composer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was an innovator and experimenter, a bright, outstanding personality who gained recognition during his lifetime. Every Finn can sing at least one Sibelius tune.<\/p>\n

The Academy of Music bears his name, streets and parks throughout the country are named after him. The singing monument strikes the imagination with its unusual design and originality. A strange “wonderful instrument” in the form of 600 pipes, like a church organ, singing in the wind, looks majestic and a little strange. But this building is better not only to see<\/a>, but also to list<\/a>en – every time it is a new symphony of the wind.<\/p>\n

Vodoskat Imatrankoski<\/h2>\n

On summer evenings at 18:00, to the music of Sibelius, water is discharged from a hydraulic structure near Lake Saimaa. This discharge can only be seen on the Vuoksa River – near the largest Imatrankoski rapids. Noisy waters break down almost 20 meters high. Imatrankoski is located in the vicinity of the city<\/a> of Imatra, it is the main attraction of the southeast of the country. The water cut through the Salpausselk\u00e4 mountains, forming a chain of rocky rapids.<\/p>\n

In the summer, these places are full of tour<\/a>ists who are interested in a unique show. Once upon a time, even Empress Catherine herself visited these places, going around the possessions of the Russian Empire in 1772. In those days, the inhabitants of this part<\/a> of Finland were her loyal subjects. Later, Emperor Nicholas II organized the first reserve, which existed from 1842 to 1929.<\/p>\n

The local castle<\/a>-hotel Valtionhotelli and the first railway contributed to the prosperity of the picturesque corner. Times changed, a dam for a hydroelectric power station was built here to provide electricity to the region. The waterfall became a waterfall – the urbanization of the twentieth century came into its own. Today, extreme lovers fly from an 18-meter height on a bungee, and tourists<\/a> admire the tamed power of nature.<\/p>\n

Sapokka Water Park<\/a><\/h2>\n

In the center<\/a> of the Finnish city of Kotka there is an interesting attraction – the Sapokka water park<\/a>. There is everything for relax<\/a>ation here – landscape design and flowers, bizarre sculptures and intricate shadows, a waterfall and linden alleys. It is amazing how an ecologically clean island<\/a> of nature is preserved in the center<\/a> of the urban system.<\/p>\n

The park adjoins close to the bay “Sapokka”, shaped like a boot, hence the name. A noisy waterfall, ending in a system of small streams, forms a system of ponds, car<\/a>efully groomed by the townspeople. The spring fragrance gives way to lush summer vegetation, which temporarily dresses up with autumn colors, and finally hides the winter landscape for half a year.<\/p>\n

The Sapokka water park<\/a> is always crowded. Morning jogs of healthy lifestyle lovers, small children frolicking under the supervision of their parents, lonely pedestrians and groups of tourists<\/a>. By evening, lovers flock here to complete their walk in one of the nearby cafeterias. Impromptu concerts of street musicians, festivals of folk groups and rock musicians are often held at summer venues.<\/p>\n

Museum Arktikum<\/h2>\n

Arktikum is an amazing building in Rovaniemi, which houses a unique exposition. Visitors can learn a lot about the peculiarities of life in the Arctic climate. This building has a congress hall where international forms and conferences are held. In addition to museums, the building is regularly used for various congresses and conferences.<\/p>\n

The building was built in 1997 according to the project of Danish architects in the form of a gallery or a glass pipe 172 meters long. A metal frame and tempered glass were all that was needed to bring the idea to life. The glass tunnel stretches from north to south, the main rooms are in the underground part (inside the rock). Arktikum's interior design used Karelian birch and Scandinavian pine wood, reindeer skins and a local variety of granite.<\/p>\n

You can talk a lot about the exposition of Arktikum, but it's better to see it with your own eyes. Exhibition materials “Northern crafts” tell about the history<\/a> of the peoples of Lapland. These are ethnic costumes, models of wooden buildings of past centuries, the culture of life of reindeer herders, hunters and gold diggers. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a fair famous throughout Europe in Rovaniemi, it was reflected in books and documentary chronicles. Today she works on the eve of Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The “Changing Arctic” exposition has been open since 2007 – it is the Northern Lights Theatre, an ice cave and much more. Each visitor will feel like an employee of resea<\/a>rch stations or an ethnographer studying the cultural heritage of the peoples of Northern Europe. Exhibition materials “The Changing Arctic” is dedicated to the impact of global warming and human activity on the nature of Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

You can get there<\/a> along the E-4 highway, turning from the Rovaniemi railway station following the signs. Not far from the building there are several hotels<\/a>, convenient parking and a pedestrian zone. Here you can stay for a few days to see all the sights<\/a> of the city.<\/p>\n

Esplanade Park<\/h2>\n

Esplanade Park (in Finnish Esplanadin puisto), colloquially “Espa” is the most beautiful green area<\/a> in Europe. It is easy to find in the area of \u200b\u200bKaartinkaupunki (the historical center of the capital). These are not just linden alleys with flower beds; in the 1830s, the best capital architect, Karl Ludwig Engel, worked on its development<\/a>. The trees are aging, they are gradually being replaced with new plantations, and by 2027 they will completely replace all park specimens that have survived to this day.<\/p>\n

What this part of Helsinki will be like after that is not known. You can still enjoy the primordial beauty of a sample of the park culture of a bygone era. Here you can also see a monument to the famous Finnish poet. The first sculpture was erected in honor of Ludwig Runeberg, later monuments to other Finnish writers were added. At the end of the park there is a market square where tour<\/a>ists enjoy freshly prepared fish and amazing sweets with coffee or mulled wine.<\/p>\n

Church of Temppeliaukio<\/h2>\n

The Lutheran church carved into the rock is an amazing building, a unique Finnish landmark. You can walk here from the Kampi bus station – an object similar to a bunker in the rock is visible from afar. The church in the rock is the embodiment of the idea of \u200b\u200bthe architect brothers Suomalainen, Timo and Tuomio. Minor modification of the walls and shape of the hall after the explosion of basalt rock with the erection of a dome consisting of many windows.<\/p>\n

Entrance fee, if you're lucky, you can list<\/a>en to the church organ, excellent acoustics (Mstislav Rostropovich claimed that the best in the world). In the daytime, quiet music sounds, you can relax<\/a> and think about something of your own. Local Protestants call this place “the bunker of anti-devil protection”, the church is active. The legacy of the 60s of the last century is unlike anything else, like the church, too, in its traditional sense.<\/p>\n

Rather, the structure resembles a concert hall or music hall, equipped in the rock on Temple<\/a> Square. This is the best place<\/a> where you can relax<\/a> between flights from Campi bus station. Near the object there are many souvenir shops and cafes where you can buy assorted ice cream, hot mulled wine or coffee with local pastries (according to the seas<\/a>on).<\/p>\n

Sveaborg<\/h2>\n

The unique system of bastion structures Sveaborg or “Swedish Fortress”, in Finnish Suomenlinna. The historical complex covers 8 small island<\/a>s, where no more than 900 people live. Today it is an administrative district not far from the capital of Finland, there is a museum and ancient buildings, the rest are residential areas. The fortification system protected the port of Helsingfors from the sea<\/a> since the 18th century.<\/p>\n

The names of the islands are difficult to remember, 5 of them are connected by bridge<\/a>s, isthmuses or sandbars:<\/p>\n

Only 3 islands are isolated – S\u00e4rkk\u00e4, Pormestarinluodot and Lonna. There is an Orthodox church here (architect K. Ton), which belonged to the Russian garrison. You can get here by ferry, yacht or boat to see other historical sites<\/a>. These are the main pier and the Royal Gate, bastions with guns and museums, a grotto, a tunnel and much more.<\/p>\n

Olafsborg<\/h2>\n

“Castle on the Lake”, Olavinlinna Fortress, St. Olof's Castle in eastern Finland are one and the same tourist attraction. Olafsborg or Olofsborg – there are still disputes regarding the name of the historical monument. The lake fortress was built by the Swedes to protect against artillery on the Russian-Swedish border. A fortified structure on a rocky island surrounded by lakes Pihlajavesi and Haapavesi (Savonlinna Municipality, Southern Province).<\/p>\n

Not far from the bay of Lake Saimaa there was a settlement that acquired the status of the city of Nyslott (Neyshlot) in 1639, and the fortress was called Neishlot. The fort has been preserved in its original form, it was not touched by the vandals. In the 1890s, the castle and the tower, which had been damaged by a gunpowder explosion, were partially restore<\/a>d. Today you can see interesting museum expositions here. From time to time, Olofsborg organizes an opera festival, official events, scientific conferences and even wedding ceremonies with a medieval flavor are held here.<\/p>\n

Abo Castle<\/h2>\n

If you want to truly plunge into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, go through the ceremony of knighting and try on armor, welcome to Abo Castle. You can get to the historical Turku fortress by bus or by car. The tourist site is located<\/a> outside the city, it was a Swedish estate at the mouth of the Aurajoki River. This place has many names, Swedish – Obo or Abo. The castle was founded at the end of the 13th century by order of the Swedish king, on the occasion of the triumphant annexation of these lands to the possessions of the Swedish crown. By the middle of the 15th century, the castle was expanded and improved.<\/p>\n

At that time there was a whole administrative complex, and not just a rampart with a military garrison tower, as before. Here was one of the residences of the Swedish kings, who paid visits to neighboring countries. After the fire of 1614, the buildings were not restored for a long time. There was a storage of grain and food, for some time it was used as a prison for prisoners of war. The building is located far from the capital. In a local restaurant you can order a feast in the best traditions<\/a> of the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n

H\u00e4me Castle<\/h2>\n

On the territory of Northern Europe, several historical monuments have been preserved that have existed for about 700 years in their original form. Among them is a medieval fortress with the H\u00e4me castle complex, built in the 13th century. It began to be erected after the crusa<\/a>de of the Jarl of Sweden Birger – with the aim of uniting the local peoples and the lands of the Swedish crown. H\u00e4me Fortress is an integral architectural and historical ensemble. It fits so well into the landscape, it seems that it literally grew out of the ground. Aulanko castle park complex, military barracks and city gardens coexist very organically.<\/p>\n

It traces the architectural style of different eras – some extensions were erected much later. The fortress was assigned the most important administrative and political task<\/a> – the stronghold of the Swedish monarchy for these rich lands subject to tribute. She is mentioned in various historical documents, including the Tale of Bygone Years. This is a description<\/a> of the campaign of the son of Yaroslav the Wise to the castle of Tavastgus (aka H\u00e4me). After a chain of historical events, the land with the Swedish castle went to Finland.<\/p>\n

Fortress of Lappeenranta<\/h2>\n

The old fortress of Lappeenranta is a lively residential area of \u200b\u200bthe historical part of the modern city. Once a unique landmark<\/a> in Southeast Finland, it was an important part of the fortification system. The complex included the fortresses of Hamina and Suomenlinna (Helsinki), the architectural design has much in common. The life of the modern capital leaves its mark. But through the efforts of the city authorities, well-organized economic activity has preserved this territory from the urbanization of the 21st century.<\/p>\n

Once upon a time there was a small area of \u200b\u200b”wild” territory, where battles between Russians and Swedes were often fought. Thanks to the development of trade, after the construction of the Lappeenranta fortress, the area began to actively settle down. Today, the “link” between Finland and Sweden has lost its relevance. There are no wars with Russia, the old fortress is no longer stormed alternately by Finns, Swedes and Russians. But the “old city” with its fortifications on a cape near Lake Saimaa has become one of the most visited sites.<\/p>\n

Athenaeum<\/h2>\n

The Ateneum Art Museum is literally a “Mecca” for art lovers from Northern Europe. The name is a modification in honor of the goddess Athena, her statue<\/a> is magnified at the entrance to the museum. The main exposition is on the 3rd floor, where you can get acquainted with the best creations of Finnish masters. The canvases of Pekka Halonen and Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Albert Edelfelt and Hugo Simberg are of interest to art historians and tourists from different countries. The Ateneum is only part of the Finnish National Gallery, the association includes Kiasma and the Sinebrychov Museum.<\/p>\n

The collection of Finnish painting includes more than 4,000 paintings from different eras, from the Renaissance to modern art movements. The most talented architect of those times, Theodor H\u00f6yer, worked on the project. The interior decor was designed by Karl Eneas Sj\u00f6strand, he is called the “father of Finnish sculpture”. In addition to the impressive exposition, visitors are invited to relax in the spacious art cafe on the 1st floor.<\/p>\n

The collection of the National Gallery has been steadily replenished since 1887 – from the moment when Nicholas II gave “for public viewing” part of his personal collection. Today you can see little-known works and masterpieces of such artists as Marc Chagall, Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Ilya Repin, Ivan Shishkin.<\/p>\n

Moomin country<\/h2>\n

Valley of the Mummy Trolls – The Scandinavian version of Fairy Tale Glade or Disney amusement parks<\/a>. Today, Mummy Troll Island is one of the top ten children's theme parks in the world. It is located near the city of Naantali, the Finnish coast. You can get to Moomin Doll with children<\/a> on a miniature train<\/a>, and this trip will remain in memory for a lifetime. The tourist site is the embodiment of the dream of fans of the storyteller Tove Jansson.<\/p>\n

There is everything that will please children of all ages, including stairs, carousels, turrets and slides. Every day, small performances are played in the mini-theater, where good always triumphs over evil. Scenes are played in Finnish, but the live performance of the actors is understandable to everyone. According to the idea of \u200b\u200bthe organizers of the park, Moomin-maser and Moomin-phaser live in the main turret. Welcoming young visitors, fairy-tale characters walk along the paths, with whom everyone takes pictures.<\/p>\n

Guests will not be left without souvenirs<\/a> and toys reminiscent of happy moments of childhood.<\/p>\n

Lemmenjoki National Park<\/a><\/h2>\n

There are few places left on Earth where the amazing northern nature has been preserved in its original form. The protected areas of the Lemmenjoki National Park are in Lapland, a Finnish province. It can be reached by the Helsinki-Inari train or the Rovaniemi-Inari bus route<\/a>. The reserve, with an area of \u200b\u200b2,850 km2, is the largest conservation association in Northern Europe. The central water body of the national park is the Lemmenjoki or “river of love”, where gold nuggets are found. Landscapes in different places of its course are impressive in variety.<\/p>\n

River rapids and rock formations, forest<\/a>s and mountain ranges. Everywhere there is an abundance of mushrooms and berries that are allowed to be picked. In the summer, gold is mined in 40 sections of the river territory. Tourists can watch the process, which does not harm nature. The territory of the reserve borders on the Norwegian National Park Evre-Anarjokka. Free spinning fishing is allowed in all lakes – whitefish and trout, grayling and trout.<\/p>\n

Travel<\/a>ing light can rent boats, sports and climbing equipment. Using the apps, you can find “forest hut” hotels<\/a> where you can charge your smartphones, warm up, spend the night or wait out the bad weather<\/a>. Many tourists from different European countries visit these places every year. For them, special trails with signs are equipped so as not to get lost in the wild forests. There are rest areas with dry closets and washstands, electric lighting and bonfires.<\/p>\n

Koli National Park<\/h2>\n

In Finland, national parks cover about 2.5% of the territory, which is 8150 sq. km. One of the most famous nature reserves is Koli, in Eastern Finland. These are delightful lands sung by Juhani Aho, Jean Sibelius and Eero J\u00e4rnefelt. Thousands of townspeople rush here to rest their soul and body, to communicate with virgin nature. Centuries-old pines and majestic mountain ranges, the mirror surface of Lake Pielinen and many picturesque corners.<\/p>\n

Nature lovers, once visiting these places, willingly return at other times of the year to appreciate the beauty of the Koli forests. Hiking and mountain climbing, horseback riding and dog sledding are just a small list of outdoor activities for citizens. The local fauna has more than 70 species, but animals and birds stay away from the tourist trails. Only reindeer are not afraid of anyone.<\/p>\n

You can come to these places with the whole family, taking into account the age and health of the traveling<\/a> groups. It provides a service even for people with disabilities – there are assistants, instructors and guides. As in any national park, Koli has equipped places for cultural recreation – trails, campsites, equipment rental points and eco-style hotels.<\/p>\n

Oulanka National Park<\/h2>\n

The picturesque banks of the Oulanka River form the basis of the route<\/a>s of the national park of the same name. The protected area of \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bFinland, where whole families go for the weekend to relax from the general urbanization. The Oulanka River is a great option for those who want to join new sports activities. Kayaks are mastered here – a special service with instructors is offered in some hotels. Great opportunities for hiking and cycling.<\/p>\n

In winter, people go here for a weekend on snowshoes or skis. Stormy spring floods in Oulanka, cycling to the red dolomite rocks or a 3-day hike to the rock canyon. The choice depends on sports training and possession of equipment. At any time of the year, there is a wonderful opportunity to relax on one of the route<\/a>s, ranging from 80 km of the “Bear Circle” to kayaking on seething rapids. Winter offers include short walks to the Kiutak\u00f6ng\u00e4s rapids or small group hikes in the winter forest with an instructor.<\/p>\n

Route<\/a>s with markings so as not to get lost in the wilderness. On each there are points for a civilized rest. Among the most interesting places<\/a>, tourists name the canyon and rapids of the Oulanka River, the Jyr\u00e4v\u00e4 waterfall, the rapids of the Kitka River, the Valtavaara and Rukatunturi hills.<\/p>\n

Linnanm\u00e4ki amusement park<\/a><\/h2>\n

There are not many places in the capital where you can spend the whole day. One of them is Linnanm\u00e4ki, the most popular place for citizens and those who are passing through Helsinki. Among the million guests, children are the most satisfied, most of the attractions<\/a> are designed for them. Safe entertainment has been developed in different countries of the world to bring joy to the guests of the capital's amusement park. Of course, not without the “Haunted House” and roller coasters. There are numerous carousels, a Ferris wheel, “Jumping” (for thrill-seekers from free flight).<\/p>\n

In the 4D cinema, you can relax after crazy races on electric cars. There is a train for the little ones and “cool” entertainment for the most desperate – “Lord of the Sky”, “Lightning” and “Cutter”. The Ghost Hotel, where thrill-seekers are touched by unseen extras, is only open to youth and adults while the kids ride the free carousels. One of the novelties is slides with video helmets for those who want to experience virtual reality.<\/p>\n

S\u00e4rk\u00e4nniemi amusement park<\/h2>\n

Entertainment is loved by adults and children – for their emotional coloring and unforgettable impressions. Each urban park has its own unique flavor, although some attractions<\/a> have become “classics of the genre.” When there is no other opportunity to relax with the whole family, the inhabitants of the “stone jungle” go to S\u00e4rk\u00e4nniemi. The second most popular amusement park in Finland has been operating since 1975. The list of attractions<\/a> is annually replenished with new offers for every taste.<\/p>\n

If you want to cover “all 33 pleasures” for the weekend, you can “get lost” here for the whole day. In these places there is also the highest observation tower in Scandinavia, from where you can jump on a bungee in summer. Those who love a quiet holiday will find many attractive facilities, including a mini-farm with pet animals and a mini-zoo. Of interest is the City Aquarium with an extensive collection, “Dog Hill” (fairytale village) and the Plane<\/a>tarium.<\/p>\n

Veijo Ryonkk\u00f6nen Sculpture Park<\/h2>\n

The strangest sight of the country is a collection of sculptures, lost in the vicinity of the village of Koitsanlahti (Koitsanlahti). It's hard to imagine what inspired the creation of a large-scale work, but this is the brainchild of a self-taught local artist. The sculptures were made by Veijo Ryonkk\u00f6nen (1944-2010), after his life the park is not replenished, gradually falling into decay.<\/p>\n

Tourists from different countries view more than 500 bizarre concrete<\/a> figures. Mostly, these are people, but there are fairy-tale characters and animals, as well as heroes of the Scandinavian epic Kalevala. The sculpture park in Parikkala is a kind of creepy open-air museum where people come for new impressions and unusual photo<\/a>s. An amateur architect shared his childhood memories, dance and yoga lovers are warming up on another site. It is noticeable that many of the figures have real teeth (they were provided to the artist by dentists).<\/p>\n

This gives more resemblance to living people, but makes the characters of Weijo Ryonkk\u00f6nen surreal. The sculptural complex is best viewed in the summer, in winter the phantasmagoric statues are covered with snow. The park can be reached by international flight number 995 (bus from St. Petersburg<\/a> to Joensu). Flights from St. Petersburg<\/a> every other day, tickets at the box office of the station and with the driver.<\/p>\n

Lake Ouluj\u00e4rvi<\/h2>\n

Ouluj\u00e4rvi is the 5th largest water surface of the “country of 1000 lakes”. The lake is located in the center of the country – the Kainu region, it can compete in beauty and fish stocks with the large water areas of Scandinavia. Sport fishing championships are held here. After the competition, the contestants relax in cozy cottages, enjoying a real Finnish sauna and jogging in husky sleds. Although its bottom is not deeper than 7 meters, the species composition of the representatives of the local fauna is impressive.<\/p>\n

In the purest water, rare and commercial species of fish spawn, which grow to impressive sizes. Fish in shallow creeks can be caught even with your hands, but the lake is large specimens of pike. The picturesque lake is not only a coveted mooring for fishermen from all over Europe. Fans of green tourism and those who want to take a break from the bustle of the capital come here to relax. A beautiful coastline, a relict forest, endemic plants, rare mosses and lichens – all this is Lake Ouluj\u00e4rvi with many small islands, the largest is Manamansalo. This island is inhabited, the tourist service is well developed here.<\/p>\n

Lake Inarij\u00e4rvi<\/h2>\n

Inari is a water area in the northeastern part of Lapland. This is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the third largest lake in the country is located beyond the Arctic Circle, at an altitude of 119 meters above sea level. On its banks there are several settlements with a special way of life of peoples who have learned to live in the conditions of the North. The water level in the lake and the rivers flowing from it (the Barents Sea basin) is regulated by an agreement signed in 1959 by Russia, Finland and Sweden.<\/p>\n

Due to the energy needs of the region, the Kaitakoski hydroelectric power plant was built here. For half a century, several similar structures were built in this area, forming the Cascade of the Paz hydroelectric power stations (Paz River). The polar lake is ice-bound from October-November<\/a> to March-April, fishing here in summer and winter. Salmon and trout, pike and perch are found here. There are 3318 islands in this water area, on Hautuumaasaari a cemetery with an altar of the ancient Sami (Ukko stone) has been preserved. You can ride a small seaplane or rent a boat over the purest lake.<\/p>\n

Lake Saimaa<\/h2>\n

Not every geography teacher knows that the 4th largest lake in Europe is in Finland. But every Finnish fisherman remembers the location of Lake Saimaa – the southeast of the country. The Vuoksa River flows out of it, flowing into Lake Ladoga, on the banks of which there are protected forests. The flowing Lake Saimaa is filled with the purest water, which is drunk without additional purification. Fishing is here all year round.<\/p>\n

Foreign tourists are attracted by more than 13,000 islands, rugged coastline, amazingly beautiful nature of the Scandinavian North. Yachts and boats, kayaks and canoes – everything you can use to get to the most remote corners of the lake surface and enjoy the beauty of the relic light forest. It is recommended to use the marked trails with signs or to make your route on the navigator in the virgin places of Finland. Fish, mushrooms and berries are free here.<\/p>\n

Ceurasaari<\/h2>\n

The museum island in the western corner of the capital is one of those places that is written about in all tourist prospectuses. Residents of crowded Helsinki and numerous guests of the country go here to rest. Visitors are offered an excursion<\/a> to the house-museum of Urho Kekkonen, one of the former presidents of Finland (he led the construction for 25 years). He did a lot for the country and passionately fought for the nuclear-free status of Northern Europe. At the beginning of the last century, samples of rural buildings from different times were brought to this place from all over the country.<\/p>\n

A kind of open-air museum Seurasaari was formed on the city island. Time, as it were, has frozen, and modern life is pushing it and hastening it. It is interesting to see what real peasant houses and barns, windmills and stables looked like. On the island, which was chosen by thousands of squirrels, you can swim across from the center by boat, take bus number 24 or walk along the bridge. The protected park is open all year round, newlyweds come here for a wedding, this is a great place for family holidays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kvarken Archipelago<\/h2>\n

There is a unique place on Earth where an unusual phenomenon was first noticed – an increase in land area. This is the Kvarken archipelago, a testing ground for studying the isostatic rise of soil. The land is owned by private individuals, but their possessions are gradually growing due to the annual increment of the territory of the islands. Kvarken or “High Coast”, the western coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, part of the Baltic Sea. A unique landscape with hills, bays and a rugged coastline of many islands was formed under the influence of the unique phenomena of the North.<\/p>\n

Periodic glaciation and melting of glaciers, the withdrawal of the coastline and the uplift of islands formed a rocky coast and small islands. The territory was freed from relict ice only 9.6 thousand years ago. Since then, there has been a rise in the territory of the archipelago, consisting of 5,600 islets (today the area is 194.4 thousand hectares). Of these, 15% is land, the rest is water area. It is interesting to see how the unique object of the joint Swedish-Finnish part of the World Heritage of Nature, protected by UNESCO, looks like.<\/p>\n
