But then this idea <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/where-can-you-see-the-northern-lights\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">see<\/a>med impossible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"TPWidget tp_calendar_widget\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"\/\/www.travelpayouts.com\/calendar_widget\/iframe.js?origin=BER&marker=541628.wpplugin_541628&destination=RAP&currency=usd&searchUrl=hydra.jetradar.com&one_way=true&only_direct=false&locale=en&period=current_month&range=7%2C14&powered_by=true\" data-cfasync=\"false\" data-wpfc-render=\"false\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Doane Robinson, a well-known historian in 1923, voiced the idea of \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bcreating a monumental structure in the Black Hills to capture the <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/bali-barat-national-park-in-bali-history-photo-description-how-to-get-there-map\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">history<\/a> of the country. He told the stone artist Gutzon Borglum about this. In 1924 Borglum visited this reserve to decide on <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/wonders-of-latin-america-part-1\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">part<\/a>icipation. He decided to create a monumental work of art on this mountain.<\/p>\n<p>The sculptor created a layout that depicted sculptures of four pre<a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/antalya-or-side-where-is-it-better-to-relax-in-2021\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">side<\/a>nts who made the country outstanding and powerful: George Washington, the first president, Thomas Jefferson, who created the declaration of independence, <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/lincoln-memorial-in-washington-dc-usa-photo-description-history-map\/\" title=\"Abraham Lincoln\">Abraham Lincoln<\/a>, who abolished slavery, and Theodore Roosevelt, who fought for the rights of the working class.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-457547-6193da82d180d.avif\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"SDStudio-light-box-enable SDStudio-editor-tools-md-imp\" src=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-457547-6193da82d180d.avif\" alt=\"Mount Rushmore in the USA: photo, description, who is depicted on the mountain, map\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1927, the most beautiful days of their lives began for many people. They made <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/margaret-island-in-budapest-history-what-to-see-tips-and-a-map-2021\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">history<\/a>. Inspired by the upcoming work, the sculptor Borglum was 60 years old at that moment.<\/p>\n<p>The first stage was the <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/how-to-get-from-amsterdam-to-bruges-car-train-bus-tour-how-much-does-it-cost\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">car<\/a>ving of oval blocks from a monolithic mountain. Dynamite was used to remove excess rock. The charges were laid into the rock with the most accurate calculation, and all excess granite was removed by specia<a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/20-best-beaches-in-sochi-list-photo-description-map\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">list<\/a>s. At the penultimate stage, polishing tools brought their work to perfection. Sculptures of presidents began to emerge from the granite rock.<\/p>\n<p>The work was not without <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.com.de\/en\/interesting-facts-about-the-czech-republic-this-country-can-surprise\/\" class=\"sds-arl\">surprise<\/a>s. Thomas Jefferson's head was originally planned to be to the right of George Washington. But after two years of work, cracks began to appear on it. Borglum conceived the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating busts of the great leaders of the American people, who, by their example of serving the people, won the love of the whole nation.
