Oxford is known in history<\/a> as one of the first English-speaking universities, the exact opening date of which is difficult to establish. The first mention of the city<\/a> was found in written monuments in 912, when there was a nunnery in its place. In 1117, the first university of Great Britain for the clergy was organized in it.
