At the foot of the church, there is an amazing view not only of Montmartre, but of the whole of Paris. To get to the white stone church, you need to climb a wide staircase and overcome 237 steps.

In addition to the fact that near the building of the basilica you can admire the views of the city and the green streets of Montmartre, it is worth looking inside this church building. The interior of the basilica impresses with its stained-glass windows and mosaics. Indeed, in this city there are so many secluded places where you can confess your love and take an oath to keep your feelings all your life. However, Montmartre surpasses any part of the French capital in this, since at the beginning of the 21st century the Wall of Love was created here, which is a huge area of 40 square meters. m.

The wall of love was created by graffiti artists. In different languages, here you can read the most desired phrase for all lovers: “I love you”, which is repeated 311 times. The Wall of Love quickly gained popularity among newlyweds and lovers, and on St. Valentine's Day, doves are released from this symbolic Wall every year, representing the fidelity and devotion of lovers.

Pigalle Square

Montmartre is subject to both love and love pleasures. No wonder this area of Paris is also called the “Red Light District”. In the old days, in Place Pigalle, artists found models for themselves, and at the same time a girlfriend for a short relationship. The current Place Pigalle is famous for sex shops, pornographic products and brothels.

In the local entertainment venues, striptease shows are organized in the evenings, and not far away is the Erotic Museum, where exhibits unusual for familiar museums are located on seven floors. This square also houses the art studio of Toulouse-Lautrec, the artist who made the Moulin Rouge famous with his advertising posters.

Tertre Square

Place Tertre used to occupy the central part of the village, which was outside of Paris. The old church and the building of the former city hall, located in the center of the square, indicate the rural origin of Montmartre. At the beginning of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso and Maurice Utrillo chose these places. It was in this part of modern Paris that modern art was born.

Numerous art galleries are found on the square at almost every step. Therefore, it is safe to say that Place du Tertre today belongs to artists and caricaturists. For a nominal fee, right on the street, anyone can order their own portrait or a friendly caricature, and each of the street artists will brilliantly cope with the task.

Bato-Lavuar

Most of the poor and not yet recognized artists lived in a hostel, the so-called Bato Lavoir, which translates as “laundry ship”. This building on Montmartre outwardly resembled a laundry barge, of which there were many in those days that sailed along the Seine. Living conditions in Bateau Lavoir were rather poor, and living conditions were rather primitive. The building was poorly heated, and the tenants barely fit in the narrow little rooms.

Over the years, Marie Laurencin, Juan Gris, Van Dongen, Modigliani and Picasso lived here. Often the inhabitants of the house did not have enough for food, and they went to the nearest cafe “Nimble Rabbit”. Here poor artists could always count on a bowl of free soup.

Cabaret Agile Rabbit

Cabaret Agile Rabbit is no less popular than Moulin Rouge. This cabaret has its own original history. Previously, serial killers were depicted on the walls of this entertainment venue. Obviously, the then guards of the order of the city, thus, tried to warn the Parisians about the danger.
