1 day – acquaintance with the Old Town Square<\/h2>\n

Old Town Square<\/h3>\n

This square is the heart of not only Prague, but the entire Czech Republic<\/a>, a holy place for its inhabitants and an interest<\/a>ing object for tour<\/a>ists from all over the world<\/a>. This is the historical center<\/a> of the capital, which was mentioned as early as the 12th century as a large, lively market located<\/a> at the crossroads of European trade route<\/a>s. With the gradual expansion of the boundaries of the city<\/a>, with the change in international route<\/a>s, the importance of the Old Market decreased, and the trading area<\/a> became known as the Old Town Square, receiving official status in 1895.<\/p>\n

How many joyful, solemn and tragic events have taken place here over the past centuries: festivities, holidays<\/a>, coronations, Hussite performances and cruel executions – everyone saw the stones of the Old Town Square! That is why it is so loved by the reside<\/a>nts of the capital, that is why there are so many historical monuments here. On 15 thousa<\/a>nd sq. m. reflects the life of past generations, harsh prose and romance in architectural and sculptural masterpieces, car<\/a>efully preserved by descendants.<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

The Town Hall, erected in the 14th century as an administrative building, is a unique<\/a> Gothic architectural structure, which has expanded significantly since then due to the Renaissance style buildings attached to both sides. Now it is a whole architectural complex of a magnificent view – the main decoration of the square and a real rarity.<\/p>\n

On the high portal (a tower completed in 1364) there is an astronomical clock that strikes every hour (a real theatrical performance with a funny story). Under the cornice of the house adjoining the central tower, there are still the family coats of arms of the members of the City Council, and the historical inscription: “Prague is the head of the kingdom” has been preserved. Today, from the pink building of the town hall, the sounds of Mendelssohn's “Wedding March” are heard: in it (in the building) is now the Wedding Hall.<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

Undoubted attention deserves one of the old houses near the Town Hall with an amazing story of its 2nd birth. When it was about to be demolished due to dilapidation, highly artistic Renaissance paintings were found under the baroque plaster: magnificent medallions depicting various rulers of the past, plot compositions from mythology, sculptural outlines of allegorical figures symbolizing philosophical concepts.<\/p>\n

The extraordinary grace and beauty of the images saved the house, which was carefully restore<\/a>d, and now its beautiful facades are admired. It is probably no coincidence that the organization responsible for the protection of the monuments of the capital is now located here. Address: Staromestskaya Square, 1\/3. Metro: stop. \"What<\/a><\/p>\n

It is impossible to ignore the Church of St. Nicholas, whose green domes are visible from afar. This holy place has an ancient history<\/a>, back in the 13th century there was a small paris<\/a>h church of the Hussites. After a fire in the 18th century, the temple was rebuilt, acquiring a modern majestic look. Today it hosts religious services and concerts of classical organ music. Monument to Jan Hus<\/h3>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

The name of the legendary leader of the uprising is known to all schoolchildren<\/a>, and it would be unfair not to consider his monument close. It is impossible not to notice the sculptural large-scale composition, as if grown out of the ground. It expresses respect and gratitude to the great reformer, champion of justice, and reflects the historical milestones of the state. The center<\/a> is crowned by the figure of Jan himself, below are the symbolic statues of his associates, among which stands out the sculpture of a young mother – a symbol of the country's revival. For 12 years, the construction of the monument continued, which became a nationwide cause, a patriotic civil action that immortalized the memory of the national hero of the Czech Republic<\/a>, who was burned at the stake.<\/p>\n

Tyn Church (Church of the Virgin Mary in front of Tyn)<\/h3>\n

A significant cultural and historical building, built over 2 centuries, is an unsurpassed pinnacle of temple<\/a> architecture in the world. It embodies the best features of Gothic and Baroque, majesty and monumentality, simplicity and austerity of the classics. The amazing outlines of the domes of high towers (80 m) are evidence of architectural uniqueness and perfection, which can be admired endlessly.<\/p>\n

The interior design<\/a> of the temple is expressive and large-scale: 19 altars with magnificent decoration; 14 large art canvases depicting Mary and Christ; gothic style stone pulpit; a sacred font made of tin with relief images of the apostles – everything is worthy of attention. A few meters from the tower, there is a fascinating attraction called the Mirror Labyrinth, a favorite entertainment<\/a> place for children. Everyone is interested in a historical panorama depicting an episode of the Thirty Years' War – the battle of the Czechs with the Swedes on the Charles Bridge<\/a>. The holy place is the “Golgotha \u200b\u200bChapel”, the facade of which is painted with the scene of the resurrection of Christ in the “sgraffito” style. Day 3 \u2013 Prague Castle<\/a> tour<\/h2>\n

Prague Castle<\/a> is a fortified city with an ancient history<\/a>, which since 1354 became the residence of Charles IV, the Roman emperor. It was from that time that active work began to strengthen and expand the castle and rebuild the royal palace<\/a>, carried out with unprecedented luxury, covering the roof with gold as a sign of the omnipotent imperial power.<\/p>\n

Significant changes to the fortress ensemble were made in the 17th century after the devastating capture of it by the Swedes under Maria Theresa. Prague Castle is the largest residence of government representatives, a magnificent architectural complex, where each building is a cultural and historical monument. After passing through the gate guarded by the guard, you need to turn right to the ticket sales points, which have a list<\/a> of attractions<\/a>. At the box office there is a detailed price list<\/a>, which shows the cost of all categories of tickets.<\/p>\n

Royal Palace<\/h3>\n

The majestic building of the Royal Palace – one of the main attractions<\/a> – contains the Chapel of All Saints, the Spanish, Vladislav Halls, the Czech Chancellery. Basilica of St. George<\/h3>\n

The oldest building, preserved from the 10th century. n. e., a priceless monument of temple architecture, which cannot be overlooked. The elegant baroque facade and 2 white early Gothic towers (Adam and Eve) are striking. The sculptures located on both sides under the triangular pediment depict the founders of the temple: Prince Vratislav and Princess Mlada. The restructuring of the 17th century preserved the ancient features of the unique church as much as possible.<\/p>\n

Cathedral<\/a> of St. vita<\/h3>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

The real gem of Prague Castle is the Cathedral of St. Vita is a monumental majestic building. Its high pointed spiers (the highest is 96 m) are visible from anywhere in Prague. Outwardly, the cathedral looks like a perfect work of art: the stone walls are decorated with openwork patterns, the facade portals are covered with images of figures of chimeras and gargoyles that act as drains; scenes from the life of St. Vaclav.<\/p>\n

A unique decoration is the Golden Gate – the main entrance for the nobles. They are a triple arch of the Gothic style, the walls of which are covered with mosaics of gilded Venetian glass depicting scenes of the Last Judgment. Here is the Orthodox crucifixion of Jesus, which is a mystery of the Catholic Church.<\/p>\n

Golden street<\/h3>\n

The only street of its kind, consisting of closely adjoining neat houses, similar to fairy-tale houses, in which in the 16-17th century. v. lived “red arrows” guarding the prisoners. The tiny street got its name based on the legend that alchemists supposedly lived in the houses, extracting gold from stone. Now souvenir shops, eateries and shops are open in quaint buildings. Day 4 – acquaintance with Malaya Strana<\/h2>\n

This area of \u200b\u200bPrague is considered an architectural reserve of the Baroque because of the abundance of Baroque palaces in it. Its center is Lesser Town Square, surrounded by the palace masterpieces of the Liechtensteins, Smirzhitskys, Sternbergs, each of which is an example of magnificent baroque.<\/p>\n

Church of St. Nicholas (Mikulas)<\/h3>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

The heart of the square is the church of St. Nicholas (Mikulas), created in the Prague Baroque style. The divine music of Mozart's “Requiem” was first performed in it 2 weeks after the death of the composer. Everything is magnificent in the architecture of the cathedral: moldings, sculptures, columns, balcony railings. The huge fresco of the central vault, depicting scenes from the life of the Saint, makes a strong impression; majestic statue<\/a>s of Christ's followers and a copper sculpture of Nicholas himself. Waldstein Palace<\/h3>\n

To get a complete picture of the Baroque palaces, you need to take Waldstein as a model. This is not just a building, but a whole palace and park complex with amazingly beautiful floral design. A labyrinth of evergreen shrubs, sculptural monuments, an artificial stalactite cave are unusually beautiful. The luxurious building of the palace amazes with the richness and pretentiousness of the decoration outside and inside, especially its “Knight's Hall” 2 floors high. The ceiling plafond depicts the Duke of Waldstein in the form of the god Mars on a chariot; picturesque frescoes are painted with mythological scenes from Ovid and Virgil. Now the palace houses the Czech Senate and the Pedagogical Museum. Address: Valdssteinske nam 17\/4. Tram: 12, 20, 22.57 – stop. Malostranska sq. Nerudova street<\/h3>\n

Also an interesting object, a real rarity among the streets of Prague, along which the Royal Road ran in the Middle Ages. Here, on old mansions, instead of a number, the coat of arms of the owner is attached. This pedestrian zone, where the embassies of Romania and Italy<\/a> are located, where you can see the true flavor of the medieval city: baroque and renaissance facades, gothic cellars, intricate doorknobs, picturesque arches, doors with ornate patterns.<\/p>\n

Street Karmelitskaya<\/h3>\n

No less interesting is St. Carmelite, located on the descent, because here is the Church of the Virgin Mary the Victorious. It is very popular, because on the central altar of the church there is a statuette of the infant Christ, rumored to have miraculous protective powers. Although there is a zoo in any country, the Prague zoo is worth special attention: it has two levels, covers an area of \u200b\u200b60 hectares and is list<\/a>ed as the 7th best zoo in the world. Its territory is very picturesque, excellent conditions have been created for animals, close to natural ones. 4422 individuals, representing 672 species of fauna, live here. The lower and upper levels are connected by a funicular (20 CZK). The inhabitants of the zoo live in open and closed pavilions, and the 3 largest closed ones give a complete picture of rare species of animals and birds:<\/p>\n

The Indonesia<\/a>n jungle is a kind of elliptical glass structure, where 100-130 species of tropical fauna live in a comfortable environment (+ 30).<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

Africa near – the same type of pavilion, which is home to rare species of representatives of the fauna of South<\/a> Africa: mongooses and porcupines, macaques and marmosets, pygmy antelope and turtles; pelicans and flamingos, Cape parrot, marabou – a fascinating sight of exotic individuals.<\/p>\n

The South America pavilion introduces llamas, baboons, and various monkeys.<\/p>\n

The remaining small pavilions and enclosures contain certain species of wild mammals, including tigers, lions, gorillas, huge reptiles, and penguins.<\/p>\n

There is also the territory of the Children's Zoo, where you can ride a tram that runs back and forth continuously (a ticket for a child costs 10 crowns). There is no limit to the delight of children: they can closely communicate with pets, give them food (sold in special machines), and observe their behavior.<\/p>\n

Tourist service here is at a high level: 4 parking lots, 2 bike stands, catering facilities, public toilets, playgrounds, a swimming pool, various types of transport<\/a> – everything is provided for a comfortable long-term stay of tourists.<\/p>\n

How to<\/a> get to the zoo<\/h3>\n

From the center: metro (red line) st. Nadrazi Holesovice, leaving the metro, turn left, up the stairs and to the left, where stop. bus<\/a> 112, on it – to the final stop. April-September, Sunday, Saturday, holidays<\/a> – special. bus “Zoodus” (1 crown). From Charles or Chekhov Bridge you can sail to the zoo on a boat, at the same time see other sights<\/a> of Prague on the banks and get great pleasure from travel<\/a>ing along the river.<\/p>\n

Day 6 – Vysehrad<\/h2>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

To visit Prague and not see the oldest castle in the Czech Republic is unforgivable, because visiting it gives an accurate idea of \u200b\u200bthe Middle Ages. According to some historians, the history<\/a> of Prague began with Vysehrad. This is quite logical, because from the elevation on which the fortress is located, an excellent overview of the area opens up, which was important for its inhabitants in those days (10th century). Now it is a beautiful picturesque panorama of the capital, and the Vysehrad district itself is the center of ancient palaces and mansions, a romantic place shrouded in many interesting legends<\/a>. The architectural visiting card of Visegrad is the oldest Cathedral of Peter and Paul, built at the beginning of the 11th century on the model of a Roman temple. The battered main walls of the church withstood the fire, as a result of several reconstructions, two 4-coal towers (Adam and Eve) with high neo-Gothic spiers) topped with stars were built on; side chapels in the Baroque style.<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

Above the entrance of the central facade there is a bas-relief with the plot of the Last Judgment, the external grandeur of the temple is no less striking than the splendor of the interior decoration: colorful stained-glass windows, sculptures of Peter, Paul, Cyril and Methodius; fresco depicting the Virgin Mary Rain. Each element of the decoration has its own legend, and this makes visiting the church even more exciting, thanks to the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding area with an old well, narrow paths and ancient monuments. Open for visits: every day, from 09.30 to 17.30. Entrance – 100 kroons.<\/p>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

Near the church there is another place worthy of attention – the Vysehrad cemetery, where 600 well-known and respected citizens of the Czech Republic, whom the whole world knew, found eternal rest. The main attraction of the historical cemetery is a grandiose monument – the Slavin sarcophagus with an eloquent philosophical inscription: “You died, but you still speak” – under it are the remains of 50 Czech celebrities. Here, each tombstone is a kind of sculptural or architectural masterpiece, created as a symbol of memory and admiration for those who are buried under it. You need to walk around Visegrad until the evening, when the Singing Fountains turn on at 19.00 – a stunningly beautiful sight that is worth seeing. Opening hours of the fortress: November-March (every day, 09.30 – 17.00); April-October: every day, from 09.30 to 18.00. Admission is free, visits to attractions<\/a> are paid,<\/p>\n

How to get to Visegrad<\/h3>\n

Metro (line C), stop. Vysehrad. Tram: 3, 7, 17, 52 – stop. viton; 7, 18, 24.53, 55 – stop. Ostrcilovo namesti. If you have the desire and time, you can walk along the Vltava embankment from the National Theater, admiring the surroundings.<\/p>\n

Day 7 – shopping<\/a> and Palladium shops<\/h2>\n

\"What<\/a><\/p>\n

The Palladium shopping<\/a> center with a huge number of different stores will save you from painful shopping around the city. Here you can buy everything that your soul asks for and even what you didn't plan to buy at all. The huge old building attracts everyone's attention with its external beauty and the richness of its internal content. Shopping here turns into a pleasant walk: the calm, cozy atmosphere of small cafes allows you to relax<\/a> and refresh yourself, discuss purchase plans, and calculate expenses. 5 floors are occupied by shops of both local firms and world famous ones; the interiors are decorated in such a way that it seems that this is a temple of art, and not a trading establishment.
