In the eastern part of Italy lies the region of Emilia-Romagna, whose coast is deservedly called the Adriatic Riviera. Its symbol is Rimini – founded in 268 BC. e. a city<\/a> and modern resort offering a sea<\/a> of \u200b\u200bopportunities for entertainment<\/a>, shopping<\/a> and relax<\/a>ation on wide sandy beach<\/a>es stretching for several miles. Tour<\/a>ists are also attracted by the sights<\/a> of Rimini – real treasures of ancient artifacts and relics that open the pages of the history<\/a> and culture of the country.<\/p>\n

Borgo San Giuliano<\/h2>\n

Immediately after the famous bridge of Tiberius, crossing the river Marecchia, the picturesque quarter of Borgo San Giuliano originates. This place is famous for<\/a> its numerous fish rest<\/a>aurants, trading shops, romantic lanes and houses lined up close to each other, decorated with flowers on the windowsills and bright frescoes. There is a 9th century Benedictine abbey and the Romanesque church of San Giuliano.<\/p>\n

The inhabitants of this authentic area<\/a> still follow ligaza, the tradition of sharing meals. At the same time, the townspeople gather in small squares to socialize and dine on food brought with them – freshly baked buns, sardines caught in the morning and homemade wine. The famous Federico Fellini overheard the dialogues of the locals and inserted them into his films<\/a>. The house of the Italian director at Via San Giuliano, 71 is now one of the main attractions<\/a> of Borgo San Giuliano.<\/p>\n

Cavour Square<\/h2>\n

The cultural center<\/a> of the city is a place where the most interest<\/a>ing historical monuments are collected. And despite the fact that they belong to different eras, the architectural ensemble of Piazza Cavour is an admirable example of beauty and harmony. People come here not only to get acquainted with the iconic buildings, but also to relax<\/a> on the numerous benches placed around the perimeter and refresh themselves by the marble fountain “Bump”, from which you can drink water.<\/p>\n

The main objects of the zone, accessible only to pedestrians, are three palaces of the XIII-XVI centuries: communities, elders and a medieval assembly. The decoration of Piazza Cavour is also a monument dedicated to Pope Paul V. Tourists<\/a> and citizens rush to the fish market for shopping, where counters carved from stone, preserved from the 18th century, stand to this day. Today, every morning (except Sunday) here you can buy not only sea<\/a>food, but also unique<\/a> souvenirs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tre Martiri Square<\/h2>\n

The modern name Piazza Tre Martiri is translated from Italian as “Square of the Three Martyrs”. So they began to call this place after the tragic events of World War II. It was here, in the historical center<\/a>, that in 1944 the Nazis executed Italian partisans. Today, the architectural core of the popular tour<\/a>ist destination is the 16th-century baroque Temple of Sant'Antonio and the Palazzo Brioli, an eye-catching brick clock tower adorned with wrought iron elements and an astrological clock.<\/p>\n

Piazza Tre Martiri dates back to 200 BC. e. At that time it was a city forum. Historians claim that in 49 BC. e. from the tribune that has survived to the present day, Caesar's speech was heard, address<\/a>ing the inhabitants and his legions with the insistence to support his intention to go to Rome<\/a>. The monument to the great commander, made of bronze and erected in 1933, adorns the north<\/a>ern part<\/a> of the square.<\/p>\n

Exhibition complex Rimini Fiera<\/h2>\n

In the northern part, on Via Emilia, 155, the Remini Fiera Center organizes international exhibitions since 2001. It focuses on four topics: entertainment, tourism, environment and technology, food and hospitality. The complex, with an area of \u200b\u200b460 thousa<\/a>nd m2, has its own Riminifiera railway platform. There is also an internal bus<\/a> station on the territory. You can get here on a free shuttle that runs every 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Rimini Fiera has 16 pavilions for exhibitions, service and technical rooms, shopping<\/a> areas, conference rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, snack bars and car rental<\/a>. Event tickets can be purchased in advance through local travel<\/a> agencies. Individuals have access not only to visit<\/a>s to public fairs, but also to professional-oriented exhibitions.<\/p>\n

Arch of Emperor Augustus<\/h2>\n

The monumental monument of Roman antiquity – Arch of Augustus, which closes the Corso d'Augusto pedestrian street, reminds of the ancient era when the modern resort of the Adriatic bore the name Ariminius. The building erected in honor of the emperor Caesar Augustus in 27 BC. e., is the oldest surviving triumphal arch in Italy<\/a>. Initially, the construction of Istrian stone, which was part of the defensive wall, was decorated with a quadriga. In the Middle Ages, it was destroyed by an earthquake and replaced with a serrated pommel.<\/p>\n

The marble walls of the structure, 9 m long and 9.92 m high, are decorated with corrugated pilasters and Corinthian columns. The facade facing Rome is decorated with medallions depicting Jupiter and Apollo. On the opposite side<\/a> are images of Minerva and Neptune. The model of the arch in its original version, recreated according to the surviving drawings of the era of Ancient Rome, can be see<\/a>n in the city historical museum.<\/p>\n

Tiberius Bridge<\/a><\/h2>\n

The symbol of the city, immortalized on the coat of arms, is a 62-meter five-arch bridge that has been connecting the banks of the Marecchia River for 2,000 years. Despite such an advanced age, today both small car<\/a>s and sightseeing<\/a> buses pass around the stone crossing around the clock. The exceptional strength of the structure is explained by the solution of lime and volcanic ash and the special technique of execution: the pylons, installed with a slope, are connected to each other.<\/p>\n

The beginning of the construction of the stone structure dates back to 14 AD. e. during the reign of Emperor Augustus. Construction ended in 21 in the era of Tiberius. In 580, the building was destroyed by the Goths and completely restore<\/a>d by 1680. The bridge has survived to this day almost unchanged. On its parapet, one can still see Latin sayings, and on one of the stones there is a clear imprint of a goa<\/a>t's hoof, popularly referred to as the “mark of the devil.”<\/p>\n

Sismondo Castle<\/a><\/h2>\n

In 1430 Sigismondo Malatesta came to power. After 7 years, he issued a decree on the construction of a castle<\/a> defense complex, in the design of which the ruler took a direct part. The work continued for 15 years. In 1446, the Malatesta family occupied a new family residence, reminiscent of an impregnable fortress rather than a family castle. The core of the architectural ensemble, fenced off from the world by a moat and massive 30-meter walls with fearsome bronze cannons, was a three-story palace.<\/p>\n

After the death of Sigismondo in 1468, the castle began to be used for military purposes, turning the premises of the former residence into a barracks. Now in the halls of the royal palace<\/a> there are expositions of the Ethnographic Museum. The courtyard serves as a venue for cultural events<\/a>. Sismondo Castle is located<\/a> at Piazza Malatesta. Open from June to September daily from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00.<\/p>\n

Church of Tempio Malatestiano<\/h2>\n

In the historic center of the city, on Via IV Novembre, 35, there is a Franciscan church, which also bears the name of the Temple<\/a> of Malatesta. Erected in the 1200s, in the 15th century it was reconstructed and turned into a mausoleum of the famous family, headed by the favorite of the Pope – Sigismondo Malatesta. The architect of the project, Leon Battista Alberti, was to create a building comparable in beauty and power to the Pantheon. However, the patronage of the head of the Catholics did not save the ruler of Rimini from excommunication, in connection with which the construction was suspended. The grandiose plans of the architect remained unfinished.<\/p>\n

Today the cathedral<\/a> is a building decorated with a marble facade, sculptures and blind arches. The decorations of the austere interior are a large altar crucifix and sarcophagi in which Sigismondo and his beloved Isotta are buried.<\/p>\n

The church is open daily from 08:30 to 12:30 and from 15:30 to 19:00. The entrance is free.<\/p>\n

Museum “Surgeon's House”<\/h2>\n

In 1989, as a result of renovation work carried out in Piazza Ferrari, the remains of a two-story house built in the 2nd century and destroyed by fire in the middle of the 3rd century were discovered. The result of 10 years of archaeological excavations are not only the remains of clay walls, stone sculptures, mosaics, coins and interior items, but also 150 medical instruments used for surgical, pharmacological and therapeutic purposes. Today, on an area of \u200b\u200b700 m2, enclosed by a glass structure, there is a museum that introduces visitors to the ruins of ancient structures and artifacts of the 2nd-18th centuries.<\/p>\n

The “Surgeon's House” is open daily (except Mondays):<\/p>\n

National Motorcycle Museum<\/h2>\n

An obligatory item in the tourist program of fans of the “iron horses” is a unique museum located in a picturesque suburb. In a two-story pavilion on an area of \u200b\u200b700 m2, exhibits are collected that are dear to the hearts of asphalt heroes. Eight private collections designed according to themes and periods give a complete picture of the history<\/a> of the development<\/a> of motorcycle technology.<\/p>\n

The showrooms housed 250 models from 60 global manufacturers, including the famous Frera, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Benelli. With special pride, the museum presents priceless specimens: a wooden bicycle from 1816, the ancestor of scooters MOTO PATTINO ABC, created in 1920, and the legendary Harley Davidson from 1942.<\/p>\n

The museum is located on Via Casalecchio, 58 and is waiting for guests from Tuesday to Sunday:<\/p>\n

Park “Italy<\/a> in miniature”<\/h2>\n

Since 1970, thousa<\/a>nds of tourists have been coming to the outskirts of Rimini. Their goal is to visit the theme park, which has collected 272 objects on its territory, which are mini-copies of the most famous sights<\/a> of Italy. Here you can take a gondola ride on the Grand Canal, which is 1\/5 the size of the original, admire the Colosseum or take a photo<\/a> with St. Peter's Basilica in the background. In addition to mock-ups, tourists will find a variety of attractions<\/a> and interactive entertainment: plane<\/a>s take off from miniature runways, and trains depart from tiny stations.<\/p>\n

Located at: Via Popilia, 239 and open daily from 09:00 to 19:00 (between 01.03 and 06.10). From October<\/a> 6 to March 1, the park is only available on weekends.<\/p>\n

Fiabilandia amusement park<\/a><\/h2>\n

In 1965, the first amusement park in Italy, Fiabilandia, a kingdom for children<\/a>, was opened on the Adriatic coast. Already at the entrance, visitors can see a local landmark – the fabulous castle of the wizard Merlin. The area of \u200b\u200b150,000 m2 is divided into 4 thematic zones: the Wild West, which has an Apache and Navajo village, Peter Pan Pirate Bay, an eastern sector focused on Chinese folklore, and a medieval territory of knights and sorcerers.<\/p>\n

Federico Fellini Park<\/h2>\n

Not only fans of the legendary Italian director, but also lovers of leisurely walks along shady alleys will love the park, named after the famous native of Rimini, Federico Fellini. The main decorations of the green area located along the city embankment are:<\/p>\n

Next to the park is another famous attraction – the five-star Grand Hotel<\/a> Rimini, in which the genius of Italian cinematography shot several scenes for the film “Amarcord”.<\/p>\n

Ferris wheel<\/h2>\n

The height of the survey wheel, located near the city's port, is only 60 m. But its fast rotation puts it on a par with such monsters as the Riesenrad in Vienna and the Millennium in London. Thanks to 42 gondolas, the Italian attraction weighing 360 tons lifts up to 2,000 people into the sky every hour. The design, illuminated by 60,000 multi-colored lights, is especially beautiful at night.<\/p>\n

The Wheel of Rimini is often referred to as the bridge that connected the heaven<\/a>s with the waves of the sea. In clear weather<\/a>, magnificent views of the city, the Adriatic and the Republic of San Marino open from the top point. And do not worry if the structure suddenly stops during the ascent or descent. This is a forced measure – due to the increased speed of rotation, visitors sometimes do not have time to take a booth.<\/p>\n

The attraction is located on Largo Ruggero Boscovich, 1.<\/p>\n

Beaches<\/a><\/h2>\n

The best natural attraction of the Italian resort are its beaches<\/a>, stretching for 15 km. From mid-June to September, on the small pebbles and soft sand that cover the Adriatic coast, tourists<\/a> who miss the sun sunbathe, play tennis and volleyball and take part in dance master classes. It's important to know! The coast to the north of the city is protected from the elements by a wall of stones, so this area is not recommended for those who like to swim in a race with the waves.<\/p>\n

10 zones are available for vacation<\/a>ers, the best of which are Bellariva, Marebello, Marina Centro, San Giuliano Mare, Rivabella, Miramare and Viserbella. The lion's share of the coast is paid beaches equipped with all necessary equipment. You can swim in the sea and sunbathe for free.
