Monastery of Saint Nektarios<\/h2>\n

It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The entrance ticket costs 3 \u20ac. The height of the mountain reaches almost 280 m. A road leads to the foot of the mountain. There is parking for a car. You can climb with a guide<\/a>d tour or on your own<\/a>. A huge mysterious cross is visible long before the entrance to the hill. It arouses interest and respect.<\/p>\n

Port of Mandraki<\/h2>\n

The journey around the island starts from the ancient port of Mandraki, which has a life history of more than 2 millennia. The military port of ancient times was decorated with the legendary statue<\/a> of the Colossus of Rhodes. Ships sailed between her legs. And now in the museum you can see the tomb stele of Crito and Timarista, made in the 5th century BC. The ruins of the ancient city are the most interesting archaeological site of the country, and is called “Greek Pompeii”. The main temples<\/a> of the city were built in honor of Poseidon, Artemis, Zeus and other gods.<\/p>\n

The central street of the city led to the Acropolis, not far from which stood the temple of Athena. The beginning of the excavations were accidentally discovered graves in 1859. The archaeological wealth of Kamiros is only 30% extracted from the ground. Further excavations promise to reveal new secrets<\/a> of the life of the city in the Hellenistic period.<\/p>\n
