La Lanterna Lighthouse<\/h2>\n

20 meters from the Galata Museum is another symbol of Genoa – the almost 900-year-old lighthouse of La Lanterna. Built in 1128, it has become a guiding light for many generations of sailors. The history of the palace is truly amazing and is associated with the names of the great Genoese. Even building material is of historical importance: it was brought from Constantinople, taken from the destroyed embassy of Venice<\/a>. Initially, the building served as an administrative and political center<\/a>, then it was used as a prison (14th century).<\/p>\n

The famous prisoner in it was Marco Polo, under whose dictation his travel<\/a> memories were recorded. At 15, the palace housed the bank of the same name, whose client was Columbus himself. Today, the port administration is located in the beautiful palace of the city.<\/p>\n

Having admired the main cathedral, it is worth going forward 300 meters to find yourself in front of the towers of the ancient gates of Genoa. These are the noble remains of the 2nd fortress wall, built in the 12th century. as a defense against German invaders. The towers, serving as a link between the past and present of the city, are very interesting for their architecture. On the inside, their walls are flat, and on the outside they are rounded. Passing into the arch between them, there is a feeling of some kind of time travel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The fortress wall was demolished during the period of dense development of Genoa, even a house was built on the arch. The famous Paris<\/a>ian executioner lived in it for several years, who cut off the heads of Louis the 16th, Marie Antoinette and the leaders of the French Revolution. For some time the towers were used as a prison. The name of the gate comes from the word sopra, which means “above”, as it is located on top of a hill. The rest of the gate was restored in the 19th century, when the “new Middle Ages” became fashionable.<\/p>\n

House of Christopher Columbus<\/h2>\n

Almost in the shadow of the Porta Soprana towers, you will see a modest house with dilapidated walls, beautifully entwined with ivy. Its authentic appearance immediately catches the eye, but this is not a genuine building in which Christopher Columbus lived until 1470.<\/p>\n

The first of them – the White Palace, built in 1540, was given over to an art gallery.<\/p>\n

Walking through its halls, you will see paintings by famous painters. After walking through the courtyard with a garden and a fountain, we go to the Red Palace<\/a>, located opposite. Art objects are placed in its luxurious halls: paintings, vases, tapestries, and other items that amaze the imagination. Leaving the Palazzo Rosso, opposite you will see the next museum-palace – Palazzo Tursi. Among its exhibits are the Paganini violin and the letters of Columbus – sacred rarities for Italians.<\/p>\n

Funicular Santa Anna<\/h2>\n

We move further along the street, superficially surveying the magnificent buildings, and after 250 m we find ourselves at the Santa Anna funicular. This is the very first lift of the city, which is part of the transport<\/a> system of Genoa. A ticket (\u20ac0.7) is sold from a vending machine installed at the bus stop. For tourists, this is an attraction, and for local residents it is a necessary mode of transport. Therefore, do not be surprise<\/a>d when you find yourself in the company of the Genoese.<\/p>\n

In fact, this is an elevator car going up along the rails. It moves rather noisily, rattling like a tram. But the feeling of belonging to the history of Genoa, to its old-timers makes the trip enjoyable. Di Negro, whose surname became the name of the park. On a hill, to which numerous paths lead, there is a villa. Nearby is the Botanical Garden with wooden gazebos and a waterfall. For some time the villa was given to the Museum of Natural History, and now it houses the David Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art.<\/p>\n

Corso Italy<\/a><\/h2>\n

Coming out of the park on the square. Corvetto, take bus number 3 or 18, they run every 15 minutes – in half an hour you will be on Corso Italia. In fact, this is a mini-resort inside Genoa. It will not be easy to go through the entire embankment, but even the section that you can see will leave a deep impression. Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno<\/h2>\n

Not every tourist visiting Genoa visits the Staglieno cemetery. However, it is even difficult to call it this word. Rather, it is a museum of marble sculptures. From Corso Italia you can get to the cemetery by bus N 70, 75, 76, 15, 25, travel time 40-42 minutes. Take your time – the “monument museum” will make a strong impression.
