Nizhny Novgorod<\/a> Kremlin<\/h2>\n

The first fortress on the site of the modern Kremlin was built in the 13th century. Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich chose a successful relief:<\/p>\n

Enemies could not overcome even adobe walls on the move. A small garrison could defend the fortress. But a century later, the earthen building was replaced. The Kremlin turned into white stone, and the new territory became larger. The building was of great military importance until the end of the 16th century. And after the annexation of the lands of the defeated Kazan<\/a> Khanate, the Kremlin ceased to be a strategic object of the border area.<\/p>\n

At first, the towers housed warehouses and the city archive. Later, an art-historical exposition was organized here. Throughout its history<\/a>, the Kremlin has been restored several times. The work was not always successful: in some places the walls were washed away by groundwater. But at the end of the 20th century, the reconstruction returned the appearance of the late 16th century to the fortress. At all times, the Kremlin was not only a place where the townspeople hid from enemies.<\/p>\n

An army was formed here for Ivan 4's campaigns against Kazan. At the walls of the fortress, the militia Kuzma Minin collected funds. And during the Great Patriotic War, the towers of the Kremlin were equipped with anti-aircraft guns. Today, the Kremlin is the official residence of the governor and mayor of the city, so not everywhere you can go freely. Manor of the Rukavishnikovs<\/h2>\n

The Rukavishnikovs are a well-known family that made their fortune in trade in the 19th century. Nizhny Novgorod has several buildings built with the money of a glorious family. And the merchants considered a wooden estate in the Dyatlovy mountains to be a family estate. In the late 70s of the 19th century, Sergei Rukavishnikov decided to rebuild the family house<\/a>. No money was spared for this: the estimate was about 1,000,000 rubles. For comparison, about 300,000 rubles were allocated from the treasury for the construction of the City Council at the same time.<\/p>\n

True, there was an obstacle: Rukavishnikova's old aunt refused to move to another place, even for the duration of the work. She was not disturbed: the wooden house was organically integrated into the new ensemble. The old woman, on the other hand, had to endure the noise and bustle around her old nest. The project of the new ensemble was entrusted to Petr Boytsov. He combined several architectural styles.<\/p>\n

The building turned out to be quite pretentious, having an unexpected combination of details, but the customer was satisfied. The fate of the estate turned out well: after the October Revolution, it was immediately nationalized. The proper condition of the house was always carefully monitored. Later, it housed a department of the museum<\/a>-reserve.<\/p>\n

Art Museum<\/h2>\n

This is the oldest provincial exposition in Russia<\/a>. The opening took place almost simultaneously with the opening of the Nizhny Novgorod art and industrial exhibition in 1896.   3. Ship instruments and mechanisms. Here are the instruments that ships of the past and the century before last were equipped with.<\/li>\n

    The poet visited the governor, told him where and why he was going. But the official turned out to be too suspicious: he sent a letter to his Siberian colleague about the visit of the inspector incognito, and forced Pushkin to stay in the city so that the authorities of the Orenburg province had time to prepare. It was this plot that Alexander Sergeevich subsequently presented to Gogol. Today, all readers are familiar with the literary presentation of the events from the play The Inspector General.<\/p>\n

      The decision to create a permanent exhibition dedicated to the proletarian writer was made in 1930. But the project was only realized in the 1970s. In the Kirshbaum house at the beginning of the 20th century, there were exceptionally expensive rooms: high-quality repairs, rare citizens could afford a telephone. But by 1902, the wanderer with a knapsack had already become a well-known and published writer, receiving huge fees. He rented an 11-room apartment from Kirschbaum.<\/p>\n

      From 1902 to 1904 Gorky lived here with his wife and 2 children. His rooms immediately turned into a fashionable literary and artistic salon. Stanislavsky, Chaliapin, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Bunin, Repin have been here. It was in the house of Nikolai Kirshbaum that the writer began the novel Mother and completed the play At the Bottom. In 1904, the writer moved in with Andreeva, his new lover. And Ekaterina Peshkova lived in the apartment with her children until 1906.<\/p>\n

      In Soviet times, the hotel was nationalized and a hostel was placed in it. The original interiors were lost, they had to be restored according to the memoirs of contemporaries and photographs. Irina Chaliapin and Gorky's widow helped. Today, even the wallpaper on the walls and the electrical wiring are the same as when the revolution petrel lived in the house.<\/p>\n

      Museum of the History of Artistic Crafts<\/h2>\n

Karelin from Nizhny Novgorod, who developed the principles of artistic photography, and Dmitriev, the founder of newspaper (publicistic) photography, worked here. The first floor of the house was occupied by a dark room (phototype). The photo pavilion occupied the entire second floor. For the convenience of Karelin and Dmitriev, one wall was completely replaced with glass.<\/p>\n

      The third floor was occupied by the Dmitriev family. And the pride of the house was a glass showcase, which exhibited photos of the city, famous people visiting Nizhny Novgorod. Photos of Gorky, Melnikov-Pechersky, Chaliapin, Korolenko were exhibited here. There were always onlookers in front of the stand. The center was founded in 1992, but its funds are impressive: more than 175,000 photographs, negatives, daguerreotypes, cameras and enlargers, letters and personal belongings of famous photographers of the city.<\/p>\n

        House of Kashirin<\/h2>\n

        It has been accepting tourists without interruption since 1933. He even worked during the Great Patriotic War. In the house where Alyosha Peshkov's grandfather Vasily Kashirin once lived, the environment of the boy's early childhood has been restored. The house consists of 5 rooms, where Kashirin himself, Akulina's grandmother and their sons, Mikhail and Yakov, lived. Authentic things and furniture that were used by family members at the end of the 19th century have been preserved.<\/p>\n

        The building itself is one-story, chopped, typical for Nizhny Novgorod at the end of the 18th century. Poor tradesmen or wealthy artisans settled in such houses. An interesting part of the collection is presented in the kitchen. This room is the main one in the house, here all the households gathered for a meal, festive feasts and even Shabbat punishments. In the courtyard, a workshop was reconstructed, in which fabrics were dyed, a carriage house. A grave cross is leaning against the fence. This is reminiscent of the scene described by Gorky in Childhood: the tragic death of the worker Gypsy.<\/p>\n

        Shchelokovsky farm<\/h2>\n

        Since 1870, the merchant Shchelokov, who sold tea, owned a plot of land. His name gave the name to the farm. And the idea to create an open-air exposition arose in the Council of Ministers of the USSR in the 1950s. The project (with reference to the area) was developed by local scientists: Agafonov and Zvantsev. Unfortunately, the work of the architects did not suit the authorities: after 10 years, Samoilov made all the measures anew. It was his project that was implemented in the early 70s of the twentieth century. The exhibition received its first visitors in June 1973.<\/p>\n

        Shchelokovsky farm is a village consisting of houses of the 16th-19th centuries, built in the Nizhny Novgorod province. Buildings were found in Kstovsky, Gorodetsky, Semenovsky and Koverninsky districts. Then they were dismantled, transported to a new location and reassembled. Huts were located along a wide road to create the appearance of a new village.<\/p>\n

        There are also several churches, a mill, outbuildings on the farm. The windmill is remarkable: it rotates around a fixed pillar. The exposition occupies 36 hectares. People come here to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Russian village of the 16th-19th centuries. Employees of the Shchelokovsky farm conduct exciting excursions, master classes in needlework and crafts.<\/p>\n

        Museum of the History of OAO GAZ<\/h2>\n

        The first guests visited this place in October 1965. Today it is a unique center, the collection of which is eagerly viewed by foreign and Russian tourists. No wonder: after all, it consists of more than 40,000 storage units. Part of the exhibition Historical Legacy of GAZ is of particular interest to the guests. Here are all the brands of cars that the plant produced. The cars were bought from the owners, found at metal collection points and completely restored.<\/p>\n

But the gallery is interesting not only for the exhibition and the school: sometimes it turns into a themed living room, which everyone can visit.<\/p>\n

        Memorial Apartment of Andrei Sakharov<\/h2>\n

        Created at the request of the citizens. After the death of the once exiled Sakharov, admirers came to the entrance where he lived with his family for 7 years and lit candles. Soon the city authorities decided to organize a center in Andrei Dmitrievich's apartment. And the exhibition itself received its first visitors in just 1 year. Furniture and objects in the room create an atmosphere of the 80s of the twentieth century. Everything is arranged in the same order as under Sakharov. No luxury: even comfort is rather conditional.<\/p>\n

        The exhibition consists of 2 parts:<\/p>\n

        2. Shows the life that surrounded Sakharov during the difficult 7 years. State-owned furniture, modest dishes, cheap repairs are presented. It was in such conditions that Soviet people lived at the end of the 20th century.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          But the permanent exhibition is not the only thing that attracts visitors. Literary readings are organized here, musical evenings are held. Caring creative people still come to Sakharov's apartment.<\/p>\n

          River Fleet Museum<\/h2>\n

The date of construction of the city estate is the end of the 19th century. The exposition contains some authentic things of the Russian writer-philosopher. In addition, this is the only center that gives a complete picture of the meek life of a talented young man.<\/p>\n

            Priest Alexander Dobrolyubov had a large family: 10 children. And all of them were housed in 6 rooms of the wing. Nicholas (by seniority) occupied a separate room. Here he studied, preparing to enter a religious school and continue the dynasty. The situation completely repeats the original. And the sofa and glasses are genuine: they were kept by relatives. The house exhibits letters, photographs, early writings and poems by Nikolai, his collection of butterflies.<\/p>\n

            The female part of the family was engaged (besides studying) in needlework and music. Parents collected a large library and early introduced children to reading. This is what served to form the anti-monarchist and anti-serfdom views of the future writer. The tenement house provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the life of poor philistines of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.             Museum and Exhibition Center “Mikula”<\/h2>\n

Separately, it tells about the life of the transport hub during the Great Patriotic War. Transport must be able to work without interruption, deliver goods to and from the front line.             Museum “Steam Locomotives of Russia”<\/h2>\n

            The center was founded on the basis of the room of labor and military glory of Strigino airport. Guests are offered permanent exhibitions dedicated to:<\/p>\n

            You can see unique aviation instruments, aircraft cockpit, aircraft control systems. The stands display documents and photographs reflecting the history of the airport from 1939 to the present. Entrance to the territory of the center is free, but you can visit it only with a guided tour. It requires registration.<\/p>\n
