And in 2007, the New Open World Corporation held a vote to select seven modern wonders of the world. About 100 million people took part in the survey. It was they who determined the new top. An amphitheater, a castle, a sanctuary, a monastery – the entire route<\/a> of the city with all its ascents and descents is quite energy-consuming. And given that this is a desert, it is better to visit Petra in the autumn: when the heat subsides, but the rains have not yet arrived.<\/p>\n

It is surprising that until the beginning of the 19th century, only local Bedouins knew about Petra. Interestingly, the white marble of the mausoleum can change color depending on the light and weather. For example<\/a>, in the early morning the palace looks milky white, in the rays of the first sun it looks pink, and at sunset it looks golden.<\/p>\n

It began to be built in the 3rd century BC. The history<\/a> of the construction of the wall stretched over many hundreds of years and over more than one dynasty of rulers. During its construction, according to various estimates, 1.5 – 2 million people were involved in the work. Many of them died during construction.<\/p>\n

By the way, the common assertion that the wall is visible even from space is just a very beautiful myth. You can climb it at different points<\/a>. Somewhere you will find yourself in a crowd of tourists, and somewhere you will be alone for many kilometers.<\/p>\n

30 meters high, with an arm span of 28 meters, it took 9 years to build. True, the monument has to be restored almost every year, since it is often struck by lightning.<\/p>\n

A huge sports field, an astronomical observatory and the 24-meter-high step pyramid of El Castillo have survived to this day. It has 365 steps according to the number of days in a year. The observatory was used to observe the stars through holes in the round tower. Thanks to this, the dates of sacred rituals and cycles of land cultivation were determined in the tribe.<\/p>\n
