Many people want to go there not only to relax, but also to live for a while. In the case of the latter, there will be enough time to explore the sights. But what if you’re only going for a couple of weeks?

Tbilisi

We decided to go to Georgia at the beginning of the year. Therefore, tickets were booked three months before the trip. And the flight turned out to be quite inexpensive. We took a direct flight to Tbilisi. We also returned back. The only caveat: the flight was at night – and this was not very convenient.

We only had hand luggage with us – a 10 kg suitcase and a backpack of up to 7 kg. It was cheaper without luggage. Ticket prices were approximately 900 BYN in both directions. Therefore, if you are going to travel for a short time, it is better to take hand luggage with you.

The plane arrived at about 5 am. We got from the airport to the hotel by taxi. Citadel Narikala Hotel is located in the center of Tbilisi – it is a very good hotel. It's sort of in a mountain and the rooms have natural decor. The rooms are very cozy and quiet. Sleep was good, service great and staff very nice. I liked this hotel and recommend it to everyone. The price was about $100 per day. From time to time they organize promotions.

On the first day we walked a lot around Tbilisi. The city is very beautiful, there are many ancient buildings. We also went to the botanical garden and saw the sulfur baths. We also took the excursion “Parades in Tbilisi”. I recommend everyone to visit it. It lasts two hours, but we walked all four. All this time, the guide told us with such love and rapture about famous people who lived in Georgia.

We found out what kind of houses they built, what architects and artists they hired. I enjoyed the excursion so much that I can’t even describe it. Unfortunately, many houses were nationalized. Now they are residential, but some buildings are well preserved. I also recommend taking a funicular ride across the Kura River, and doing a lot of walking.

Tbilisi is a very beautiful city with a lot of history. But you will have to walk a lot, especially if you are going to the mountains nearby. You will definitely need good comfortable shoes because you are going up there all the time. It was hot during our trip, so I was even tired. But the impressions are such that you want to return there again and again.

What else to visit?

The Dry Bridge alone is worth it! This is an antique vintage market. Locals stand and sell old things. There you will find dishes, household items, carpets. There, artists sell their paintings, there is costume jewelry, and old jewelry.

You can buy very beautiful things inexpensively, but you definitely need to bargain. As a fan and lover of this kind of thing, I bought myself some very beautiful things in memory of Georgia.

We bought our own groceries and cooked our own meals, so we often visited the local food market. He's so colorful! All the sellers are very kind and let you try everything. There we bought a lot of greens, vegetables, fruits, and berries to take to the mountains.

We were advised to also shop for home. If you want to bring some spices, suneli hops, Svan salt, then be sure to go to the market. We bought churchkhela for home. I also brought home raisins and barberries for pilaf. There are a lot of things on sale there, everyone will find what they need.

Where to eat?

If you get hungry, there are Pasanauri restaurants in Tbilisi – this is an analogue of our Vasilki. The food is great there. We ate khinkali, eggplant rolls and khachapuri, and used Kindzmarauli wine for alcohol.

If you particularly like a particular establishment, then dine there, because not everywhere you can eat well. I heard that Georgians don’t cook meat very well in restaurants, oddly enough. Many said that they ordered meat and it was terrible. So it’s better to order khinkali and visit “Pasanauri”. There will always be good service and fast serving of food.

Trip to the mountains

After visiting Tbilisi, we went to the mountains. To do this, we rented cars from private owners. They have good SUVs. It was not far to go to the mountains, but the road was not very good. In addition, it is two-lane and you can’t really accelerate, so it took almost four hours to drive 200 km.

Tourist houses were rented at the foot of Kazbek. This is a very beautiful place in the mountains with beautiful views from the terrace. This is a great place to do yoga.

We also had a picnic there. We took fruits, berries and wine with us. And so you sit, look at the waterfall, eat berries, fruits – and it’s so chic. Along the way we saw lizards, frogs, donkeys, sheep, cows and mountain horses. Nature, flowers, greenery – it’s all so lush. This is, of course, an unforgettable experience, such a happy moment. I brought a million photographs.

We also went to the mountains where there are glaciers. Go high. But at the top there is a restaurant and hammocks, you can lie and look at the magnificent mountains. There are a lot of tourists there. We ordered lunch in advance because there were a lot of people and the restaurant itself was small.

I recommend trying their signature beef. They send it to simmer for two days in red wine and cook it in the oven for 8 hours – it was just a bomb. I have never eaten tastier meat in my life. I also recommend their delicious eggplant rolls and famous Georgian salad. Standard items include grilled vegetables and khachapuri with cheese.

While still in the mountains, we stayed overnight at the Rooms Hotel. It is the most expensive in this area, but, of course, it is also very cool. Many foreigners stay there. We went to the spa, swimming pool, sauna. They have an excellent restaurant. The room itself was small, but had everything you needed. I was impressed by the soap – it smelled so delicious, as if I had been to Paris.

What should you bring home?

There are so many things you can buy in Georgia. I brought beautiful shoes made of natural suede. I recommend everyone to pay attention to them, because they are very comfortable and beautiful. The price for our money is 60 BYN. I regret that I only bought one pair.

Of course, bring suneli hops, Svan salt and all kinds of spices, because Georgians know a lot about tasty and healthy food. We buy seasonings only at markets, not along the road. Everyone also brings fresh churchkhela and wine. Since my weight was limited, I bought chacha and Kindzmarauli wine for home at duty-free.

The dry bridge is the main source of wealth and luxury; you can bring luxurious things from there. I bought there silver spoons and a silver fruit bowl, an enamel teapot from the 19th – early 20th centuries, a brass bell and silver earrings.

As a Christian, I really love old churches and monasteries. I recommend visiting the 14th century church in Gergeti. It's small, you can't take pictures inside. There is an icon of the Savior that looks into the very heart, as if it were a living person. It is impossible to describe, you just need to see it with your own eyes.

And of course, it’s worth watching the sunrise in the mountains. We sat and watched the sun rise over Kazbek – it was cool, but cold.
