The legendary swim across the Bosphorus brings together thousands of open water swimmers in Istanbul every year. This is the only transcontinental swim in the world. Its participants start<\/a> in Europe and finish in Asia. The distance is 6.5 km and takes two hours.<\/p>\n

Both amateurs and professionals can participate in the water race. In 2023, the swim will take place on August 20. The organizers have allocated only 1,200 places for foreigners, so you need to grab a slot quickly. Treasured places are sorted out in a matter of minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

First, register on the organizers\u2019 website<\/a> \u2014the date is announced in advance. Then you immediately pay for the slot – in 2023 the fee is $400. If a registration notification appears in your personal account and you receive confirmation of payment, the slot is yours!<\/p>\n

But that's not all. To participate, you need to provide one photo<\/a> and a list of documents: a scan of your passport, a health certificate, a covering letter from the coach and his diploma.<\/p>\n

After that, it all depends on your level and training regimen. Often, amateurs turn to sports schools for special training for swimming across the Bosphorus. This allows you to approach the competition in optimal shape and prepare for serious loads.<\/p>\n

Boston Marathon<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Boston Marathon is the oldest long-distance running competition. The first race took place in 1897. Since then it has been the most prestigious marathon competition in the world. Every year thousands of athletes dream of becoming participants in the race, but not everyone can take the desired place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both professionals and amateurs take part in the marathon. Despite the fact that Boston has won five Olympic titles, access is still open to amateurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those interested must meet the established criteria<\/a>. Namely, you need to run one of the certified marathons faster than the qualifying time. But even this does not guarantee a place in the final pool of participants, because the number of submitted applications exceeds the quota set by the organizers.<\/p>\n

30 thousand participants cover the distance from Hopkinton to the center of Boston. The entry fee is $225 for US<\/a> residents and $235 for foreigners. The winners of the marathon receive $150 thousand. All athletes start in the general group. At the finish line, marathon runners are divided into winners in men's and women's competitions. The amount of prize money for the winners in both competitions is the same.<\/p>\n

Oxford-Cambridge Boat Regatta<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Oxford and Cambridge universities compete not only in the educational environment. The traditional rowing competition is held annually on the last Saturday of March or the first Saturday of April. Competitions between male and female crews are held separately.<\/p>\n

About 250 thousand fans usually come to see the famous regatta live on the banks of the Thames. Throughout the history of the tournament, men's crews from Cambridge have won 85 times, and from Oxford – 81. In the women's competition, Cambridge has the advantage: 46 wins versus 30 for Oxford.<\/p>\n

Access to the competition is open only to university students. However, amateurs often took part in the races and later won medals at international tournaments: Matthew Pinsent, Colin Moynihant, Tim Foster. Iron Horse Bicycle Classic<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This bicycle race originated from a dispute between the Mayer brothers. Tom was a bicycle enthusiast, and Jim worked as a conductor on the railroad. In 1971, they bet who could get from Durango to Silverton faster: Tom on a bicycle or Jim on a train. Tom won this race, although he had to overcome two mountain passes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since 1972, the race has been held on a regular basis. Amateurs and professionals come to Iron Horse every year to test their strength in one or even several races. Durango is famous for its mountain bike trails.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

To take part, you need to register<\/a> and enter your contact information, after which you can select the desired races.<\/p>\n

The cycling event features nine events, including road racing, mountain bike and gravel racing, e-bike racing, off-road racing, omnium and children's events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The most popular event at the sports festival is the McDonald's Citizen Tour. Participants overcome a distance of 80.5 kilometers, two mountain passes, 1.8 kilometers of ascent against the backdrop of views of Colorado. The rules of the tournament are rooted in a dispute between brothers: participants must reach the finish line before the train. For such a trip you will have to pay $145.\u00a0<\/p>\n
