There are many beautiful islands on the globe – mysteriously wild and uninhabited, extravagantly modern and packed with infrastructure, convenient for recreation, but there are unique islands. And one of them is the island of Saint Irene, more familiar to us as Santorini.
Santorini is an amazingly romantic place – elegant Mediterranean architecture in blue and white tones, shimmering in the golden rays of the sun, reflected in the azure sea. It is not for nothing that newlyweds all over the world have chosen it for their honeymoon.
The high season is long here: it starts in May, when the temperature reaches a comfortable mark of 25 ° C, and this bliss continues until the end of November, despite the beginning of rains on the beaches, it is still crowded.
Santorini is a mysterious place – according to one version, the legendary Atlantis was located here, in a sunken crater formed after a volcanic eruption. Tourists to this day collect pieces of pumice on the beaches – lava that solidified after that famous eruption.
The beaches of Santorini are incredibly beautiful: pebble, sandy, and even shades to choose from – white, black, red. Two of them deserve special interest.
This beach of Perissa is a favorite vacation spot for families with children, as it is a very convenient, gentle entry into the water and 100% protection from the wind by coastal rocks.
And Kamari beach, for outdoor enthusiasts. Beneath your feet is a mixture of volcanic sand and pebbles, behind your back – a lot of taverns and bars for every taste, and before your eyes – a wonderful sea.
The infrastructure is quite decent – quality hotels, sports centers, surfing clubs, night discos and clubs, an endless string of cafes and restaurants offering a wide range of national and world cuisines.
Santorini has a unique wine, because there grows a unique grape variety – Assyrtiko, the taste of which is specific due to the volcanic soil and the lack of rain on the island.
Arriving in Santorini, do not forget to taste the Pope's favorite wine – “Vinsanto” and learn the special way of its production.
The cognitive part of the holiday in Santorini will be decorated with excursions to the Museum of Archeology, trips to Fira with a visit to the hot springs and the dwelling of Ptolemy, and to the village of Ia with cozy streets and white and blue houses carved into the rocks.
A sailing trip on a catamaran from Crete or Rhodes will give a special charm to a trip to Santorini. Whichever of them you are resting, do not forget to set aside a day to travel to this amazing island.
