The ancient historical Russian city of Kostroma is located on the banks of the Volga and Kostroma rivers. central park
Located on the territory of the Kremlin. This is one of the favorite vacation spots of the townspeople. You can enter the square from the side of Tchaikovsky Street in the city center. The local monument to V.I. Lenin is interested in the history of construction. Initially, before the revolution, a pedestal was erected to install a monument dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. But the whirlwind of tragic events of that time did not allow this to happen.
Later, the Soviet authorities installed the figures of Ilyich on this foot. To the left of the monument is an observation deck. It occupies part of the wall of the Kremlin destroyed by the Bolsheviks in the 30s of the last century. The viewing platform is never empty. There are always a lot of people here. The popularity of the place is explained by the magnificent panorama of the Volga and the city pier. You can go to it along a stone path and a staircase with a beautiful openwork cast iron railing.
In summer, the park is immersed in the greenery of trees and shrubs with flower beds. There is a children's complex with carousels, a pool with ship models, a railway and other attractions. Various festive events are constantly held.
Zavolzhye Park
At the beginning of the 2000s, the townspeople dreamed of reviving the natural complex on the site, abandoned in the 90s and completely devastated, the park named after. Lenin Komsomol. After carrying out extensive work on the right bank beyond the Volga, the foundation was laid for the creation of a new landscape park – Zavolzhye. The nature reserve occupies the territory along the Cherniginskaya embankment between two bridges. Currently, it is always crowded and there are many children's attractions.
The recreation area attracts young mothers with strollers. Cozy alleys among the lush crowns of trees are furnished with comfortable benches. Adults relax and children of different ages play on spacious green lawns. Recently, the popularity of the new recreation area has grown so much that the city administration has begun arranging an additional parking lot for visitors to the landscape complex and other infrastructure facilities.
Berendeevka Park
The recreation area owes this name to the filming of the film “The Snow Maiden” based on the work of the same name by the great Russian playwright Ostrovsky, where the play takes place in the fabulous country of the Berendeys. The scenery for filming was installed in the city park, which has since become known as Berendeevka. The pine-birch forest park covers an area of 90 hectares. A fabulous atmosphere is created by wooden buildings, some of which the townspeople lovingly preserved after filming and restored over time.
In 2011, a hotel complex was built here, which consists of 18 original bungalows, stylized as old wooden buildings. Birch, pine and spruce mainly grow in the forest park. Oak, maple and linden are also found. Woodpeckers, thrushes, finches and tits live in the crowns of trees, and hawks soar high in the sky above them. Among the bushes of elderberry and fern, in the grass, on the lichen one can meet hedgehogs, moles and shrews. There is a boat station on one of the three ponds.
The second reservoir is stocked with fish, which brings joy to amateur fishermen. And the third lake is at the complete disposal of waterfowl. Nearby is a restaurant, the building of which was built in the form of a fabulous tower. In the summer season, attractions operate on the territory – these are carousels, trampolines, slot machines, a playground with electric cars. You can ride horses and ride a quad bike. In winter, children ride snowmobiles, adults skate and ski.
Victory Park
Located in the Davydovsky microdistrict – this is one of the favorite places for recreation for walking and entertainment for adults and children. The opening for visiting the landscaped and cozy territory was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2010. This event has become a kind of gift from WWII veterans to the modern generation of young people.
The complex, in addition to its entertainment function (a playground with attractions, a track for roller trekking, etc.), plays a big role in educating the military-patriotic spirit of the younger generation. On a special site, samples of tank and aviation equipment of past years are exhibited. There is a front road with trenches, anti-tank hedgehogs, surrounded by many different pieces of military equipment.
From a special observation deck, you can have a beautiful photo shoot, covering almost the entire territory of the military-patriotic open-air museum. Once in Victory Park, it is worth paying attention to the layout of a ballistic missile. The attraction is dedicated to rocket scientists and military builders – the creators of the Motherland's nuclear missile shield on Kostroma land. At the exit, visitors are escorted by the Cosmos Alley made of young Christmas trees planted in 2015 by participants in the International Space Week led by cosmonaut Ryzhikov S.N.
Arboretum
A natural monument – the regional dendrological garden is located at the end of Lenin Street towards the exit from the city. On its territory, various types of vegetation, including trees, are cultivated in open ground according to systematic and ecological characteristics. Garden specialists constantly monitor and care for representatives of the flora from different climatic and natural zones.
The central attraction is a forest plantation of fir trees in the shape of a star in plan. From a height, the figure is a five-pointed star with a circle in the center. The arboretum occupies a small area. Despite this, it is beautiful in all seasons. Stormy spring flowering, the triumph of greenery in summer and the eye-pleasing color of flying leaves on warm, dry autumn days – all this attracts many citizens on weekends.
In winter, you experience a sense of peace here against the backdrop of nature, sent into hibernation until spring. To the delight of local fishermen, 2 ponds were dug here at one time, stocked with thousands of carp fry.
Amusement park on Nikitskaya
The children's entertainment center is located next to the railway station along Nikitskaya Street. On the territory of the complex there are several recreation areas for adults, playgrounds for children and a stage platform for various festive events and concerts.
Entertainment is represented by children's, family, extreme rides, a trampoline town, a race track with electric cars, a swimming pool with boats and several shooting ranges. There is a cafe “Terem” on the territory. The facade of the building is made in the form of a classic Russian tower. The interiors of the dining halls are reminiscent of the old boyars' chambers.

Zoo
The zoological garden occupies 92 hectares. There are enclosures with predatory and herbivorous mammals, numerous cages with representatives of the feathered world. Walking paths with viewing platforms are laid between the zoological expositions. The institution has been operating since 2010. Today, there are about 35 species of animals. Many of them are familiar to visitors, but there are exclusive representatives of the fauna.
At a safe distance, adults and children can observe the behavior of large predators such as puma, lion, lynx, etc. The zoo diversifies the world of artiodactyl marals, spotted deer, mountain alpaca, blue sheep, wild boar, shaggy yak and a herd of camels.
In 2018, the collection of animals was replenished with newcomers – these are two African antelopes, each of which weighs about a ton, and the Sichuan takin (a rare artiodactyl with an antelope's head and buffalo horns). The city zoo is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, except for the last Monday of the month (sanitary day). The zoo is located at st. Lenin, 175.

Thanks to the active participation of citizens in the improvement, the old square in the Yubileiny microdistrict has been transformed into a modern children's amusement park. New slides, swings, playgrounds with rope labyrinths and various sports equipment were recently installed here. Comfortable benches were installed on the sides of the paved paths with paving slabs.
Botnikovsky Square
Botnikovsky Square crowns the main street – Sovetskaya. Elongated alleys date back to 1900, when the mayor of Botnikov (hence the name of the recreation area) donated his personal 400 rubles (a considerable amount at that time) to lay out a square in the city center. With the active assistance of professional gardener Maria Vint, Dutch lindens and local firs were planted. Over time, dilapidated plants were gradually replaced by new trees.
Currently, Botnikovsky Square is a shady, cool refuge in the summer heat, furnished with comfortable benches. In the evenings, both older people and young people gather here. On the day of the city, the traditional exhibition “Waltz of Flowers” is held here, where local florists compete in the perfection of their flower arrangements.
