Blue flag on the beach – meaning

56

Gathering information about a beach holiday in a country where you are planning to spend a legal vacation, you can sometimes come across an underlined important message that such and such a beach deserves special attention, as it is a worthy owner of the Blue Flag award. This is a high-level international award given by the Environmental Education Foundation to the best beaches and marinas, whose indicators of quality, cleanliness and livability lead the program's ranking.
The French initiated the establishment of the certificate, and from the end of the 80s the triumphal march of the symbolic Blue Flag began across the beach spaces of the world (currently about 60 countries are involved in the program).
The prize is issued for a period of one year, after which the nominee must again confirm his right to receive it. On the azure coasts of the Northern Hemisphere, certificates are renewed in early summer, while the Southern Hemisphere, including the Caribbean, is inspected in November.
The beaches, over which the blue banner flutters proudly, should be ideal in terms of ecology and infrastructure.

Vacationers are provided with guarantees:
• free entrance
• weekly tested for water pollution
• regular cleaning of sand, garbage collection
• availability of well-equipped showers
• absence of motor vehicles and pets (for our smaller brothers, there are specialized beaches)
• presence of representatives of surveillance and rescue agencies with professional skills in emergency care
Beach assessment criteria have become more stringent over time, and this is a rather favorable trend. After getting out to the resort, one does not want to doubt its proper level.
