This splendid structure was erected on a bridge over a gorge in which the mountain river Guaitara flows. The dizzying height of all this is scary to imagine – 2600 m above sea level. How all this could have been built remains a mystery.
But it all began in the 18th century, when, according to legend, on the rock of this gorge, after a severe thunderstorm, the face of the Mother of God with a baby in her arms self-formed.
The first one who stole this miracle was a girl who was deaf and dumb from birth. Seeing the face, she spoke. From that moment on, the rock icon was elevated to the cult of the healers and continues to carry good, saving people from serious ailments. This is evidenced by the numerous inscriptions left by grateful pilgrims who received the highest healing.
