🏝️ Lesø Island: Denmark’s hidden gem
Lesø is a large island in the Kattegat Strait. Located in Denmark. Lesø is not as popular as other cities in the country, but its fame is growing. Let's find out what is worth seeing and what this amazing island can conquer!
How to get to Lesø Island?
A popular way to get to Lesø is, of course, by ferry. It is chosen by most of the island's guests. There are four flights available daily in the off-season and seven in the summer. A ferry connects Lesø with Frederikshavn.
Despite the short distance between Lesø and mainland Denmark, the journey takes about 90 minutes. The ferry can accommodate about 500 passengers and 750 vehicles. You must check in at least 20 minutes before departure. Therefore, it is worth arriving at the port in advance.
Also keep in mind that to visit not only Lesø, but also Denmark itself, you need a Schengen visa.
What to do on the island?
Stroll through Danzigmann and Blöden Heil
Explore Danzigmann Beach and enjoy the stunning nature east of Osterby Harbour. Danzigmann Beach was named after a ship from Danzig that ran aground here in 1741. And if you continue to the cape, you will end up in Blöden Heil.
Hiking on the island of Lesø
Bring your hiking boots to see the fantastic scenery for yourself. Try hiking the Leso-Klitplantage or take the 58-kilometer route around the island.
Icelandic horse riding
You don't need to be an experienced rider to have an unforgettable experience. A ride on one of the island's native Icelandic ponies is a wonderful experience.
Buy wool items
Products made from the wool of local sheep and goats will be a good souvenir, not only memorable, but also useful. On the island you will find blankets, socks, scarves, mittens, hats, sweaters and even animal figurines. You can see the full range here.
Visit the Hedvigs Hus Museum
What makes this museum unique? Because its roof is made of algae. And repairing or creating these roofs used to be done by women. Just imagine, such roofs can last up to 300 years.

Seafood here is inexpensive, but is considered the most delicious in Denmark. If you find yourself on the island, be sure to try them. Particular attention should be paid to langoustines. They are especially delicious here.
