🎬 PÖFF “Dark Nights”: guide to the film festival in Estonia

18

November in Estonia brings not only dark polar nights and winter frosts. For the 27th time, the international A-class film festival PÖFF will be held in Tallinn and Tartu.

It should be noted that out of approximately 4,000 film festivals held around the world, only 15 have been awarded a class A certificate from the International Federation of Film Producers Associations. The presence of such a mark puts PÖFF on a par with such famous festivals as Cannes, Berlin and Venice.

This year, guests can expect 13 world premieres, which will be presented personally by both local directors and other professionals from European countries, as well as Japan, Canada, the USA, India, South Korea and Mexico. 20 films will compete for the grand prize, awarded by the city of Tallinn in the amount of 20,000 euros. The full list of competitors can be found at this link.

On November 3, the Alexela Concert Hall will host the opening ceremony and the first premiere of the week – the film “Guardians of the Formula” from Serbian director Dragan Bjelogrlic. Tickets for this event are on sale now. The full festival program will be published on October 27th.

Last year, as part of the cooperation “Dark Nights” and the international film festival of Nordic and Baltic films “Paunochnae zzyanne” showed the Estonian public two films by talented directors: “Mara” from Sasha Kulak and “When the Flowers Are Not Silent” from Andrei Kutilo. This year, audiences can look forward to this interesting collaboration again.

By the way, in Tallinn we recommend visiting the Kadriorg district. A guide to it can be found here. If you go to a film festival with children, then in this material you will find 10 ideas for spending your free time.
