This building on Montmartre outwardly resembled a laundry barge, of which there were many in those days that sailed along the Seine. Living conditions in Bateau Lavoir were rather poor, and living conditions were rather primitive. The building was poorly heated, and the tenants barely fit in the narrow little rooms.
Over the years, Marie Laurencin, Juan Gris, Van Dongen, Modigliani and Picasso lived here. Often the inhabitants of the house did not have enough for food, and they went to the nearest cafe “Nimble Rabbit”. Here poor artists could always count on a bowl of free soup.
Cabaret Agile Rabbit
Cabaret Agile Rabbit is no less popular than Moulin Rouge. This cabaret has its own original history. Previously, serial killers were depicted on the walls of this entertainment venue. Obviously, the then guards of the order of the city, thus, tried to warn the Parisians about the danger. Therefore, the institution was first called “Meeting of Thieves”, and later “Killer Cabaret”.
Only thanks to the image of a rabbit jumping out of a saucepan, made by the artist André Gilles, the cabaret got its current name. At the beginning of the 20th century, this cabaret was a favorite place where poor artists and writers gathered, and today this place attracts many tourists.
Montmartre Museum

In the museum building in the old days was the art workshop of Auguste Renoir. It is noteworthy that an old vineyard has been preserved near the Montmartre Museum.
