🏅 Olympics in Paris 2024: how to attend for free
There is just over a year left before the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in France. For sports-obsessed travelers, there is a way to attend the world's largest tournament for free: apply to become a volunteer.
Volunteers will accompany spectators to the stands, meet athletes in the Olympic village, transport them to competition venues, set up starting blocks for track and field competitions, collect tennis balls and much more. Approximately 45 thousand volunteers will be needed for the Olympics, and the organizing committees begin the search approximately two years in advance.
Applications for the 2024 Games can be submitted until May 3, 2023. The organizing committee will consider them in the summer. Candidates will be informed about their decision between September and December of this year.
Application Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age on January 1, 2024. They should be able to come to France during the games. Since the official languages of the games are French and English, volunteers must be fluent in at least one of them. The form can be completed at paris2024.org.
Bonus Skills That Can Help You
While most volunteer roles do not require specific skills, some require additional knowledge of a foreign language, a driver's license or significant knowledge of a sporting discipline. When applying, you will need to list any additional skills. This will result in an impact on your responsibilities. For example, volunteers who have three years of experience working with horses will be able to work at equestrian competitions.
Time and place
Volunteers will be needed from the opening of the Olympic Village, that is, from July 12 to September 10, 2024. Volunteers do not need to be available during this entire time, but priority will be given to those who can commit to volunteering for at least 10 days during this two-month window.
If it is not possible to take part during the Games themselves, please note that volunteers are also needed for test tournaments. They will take place from July 2023 to May 2024.
Potential volunteers will also be asked to indicate which regions they will be able to travel to, as the Olympics will not only affect Paris, but also Bordeaux, Chateauroux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice and Saint-Etienne.
What's not included
Volunteers will be able to attend events to which they are assigned. However, there is no guarantee of attendance at certain events or matches.
In addition, the Organizing Committee does not cover the costs of travel to France or accommodation for volunteers. At the same time, local public transport and food for volunteers will be free on the days when they are involved.
