picturesque bridge
The magnificent crossing is a unique bridge structure. It breaks all the old traditions of bridge building, crossing the river not across, but stretches along its channel. The 1.5-kilometer bridge, opened in 2007, is named so for a reason – it looks very picturesque, attracting the eye with a bright red color.
They painted the guys (steel cables), railings and a huge arch located in the middle of the bridge deck. The well-known architect N. Shumakov worked on the construction project, designing more than 30 city metro stations, Vnukovo airport and the city's monorail route. For the creation of a miracle bridge, Shumakov was awarded the international prize. O. Perret.
It is impossible not to be fascinated by the panorama that opens from the observation deck of the Picturesque Bridge. From it you can see the beauty of the Krylatsky Hills, Serebryany Bor, the Moscow River and the Scarlet Sails residential complex. And there is an observation deck inside the capsule building attached to a steel arch. An ellipse-shaped glass object is securely “fastened” with powerful fasteners.

The grandiose new building of the modern capital is a complex of skyscrapers called Moscow City. It includes 13 tower buildings, each of which has its own name and purpose. A real pearl of Russian architecture, captivating with the beauty of architecture and the color scheme of design, the Novodevichy Convent is an object of visiting tourists. It was erected in 1524 on the initiative of Prince Vasily III in honor of the entry of Smolensk into the Moscow principality. Therefore, the monastery complex was consecrated with the name of the miraculous icon of the Smolensk Mother of God. According to legend, the name Novodevichy came from the field where young Moscow beauties were selected for the soldiers of the Golden Horde.
Today, its temples continue to operate in the monastery, an art and history museum with a diverse collection of exhibits has been opened. Residential building on Kotelnicheskaya embankment
The famous landmark, a masterpiece of post-war Stalinist Empire architecture, is a residential building. This is one of the 7 skyscrapers of the Soviet period. Therefore, the facade of the building is decorated with symbols of the USSR. Any resident would consider it a blessing to live in such splendor. Employees of the NKVD and representatives of Soviet art settled in luxurious apartments.
Today there is a museum-apartment of G. Ulanova. The building, consisting of 3 buildings, was built in stages. Beria personally chose the place for the construction of skyscrapers and supervised the construction, and Stalin distributed the apartments at his discretion. The oldest park in the capital was formed on the site of a dense forest, which in the 15th-16th centuries served as a hunting ground for Russian princes and tsars. They hunted falcons, which lived here in large numbers and gave the name to this place. There are 3 ponds on the territory of Sokolniki: Golden and 2 Putyaevsky ponds, large and small, where there is a boat rental.

Pushkin bridge
The pedestrian bridge across the Moskva River is a landmark of Gorky Park, named after the great poet. Otherwise, it is sometimes called Andreevsky after the monastery of the same name, once located near the coast. The crossing was erected in 1907 as a railway bridge between the stations Kanatchikovo and Sparrow Hills. In 1999, the structure was partially dismantled and moved down the river bed due to technical necessity.
Then the structure was lengthened, equipped with a glass roof, stairs and escalators were installed. The historical part of the bridge was equipped with viewing balconies from the outside. Krutitsy Patriarchal Compound
Founded in the 13th century, the Krutitsy Monastery, later transformed into the residence of Russian bishops, is located on the high bank of the Moskva River. Now it is a religious and architectural monument of federal significance, which lost its former status in the Soviet years. Since 1991, the courtyard has become the official residence of the Moscow and Russian Patriarch.

Bunker-42 on Taganka, the official name of which sounded like GO-42, was created as a reliable shelter for the leadership of the USSR in the event of a nuclear strike on Moscow.
The idea of building an underground shelter arose after the first test of nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union (1947-50). So that members of the government could quickly take refuge in a bunker, it was equipped on Tagansky Hill, near the Kremlin. The construction of the bunker is the hardest work of builders in the strictest secrecy.
Today, the fortification object has been transformed into a military history museum of the Cold War. Dominion Tower
On Sharikopodshipnikovaya Street, an unusual-looking huge building of the Dominion Tower business center, put into operation in September 2015, has grown. This surreal building is the project of the famous British architect Zaha Hadid, known throughout the world as a representative of avant-garde architecture.
The construction of the facility began in 2008, but the economic crisis stopped the construction – Dominion-M was unable to finance it. Now the huge building with an area of 21 thousand square meters, surprising with its outlandish forms, is completely ready. The nine floors of the building look like a stack of Playstation game consoles, symbolizing the era of electronic technology.
It offers offices for rent to various companies. Inside, everything is also unconventional, as well as outside: the atrium is all cut up by stair zigzags. Their midflights resemble giant white wings. Silent escalators are installed for ease of movement.
Sparrow Hills

The store building built in 1957 on Lubyanskaya Square, intended for the sale of children's goods, was called “Children's World”. On the 1st floor of the complex, the Museum of Childhood is organized, where visitors can see what children's clothes, shoes, toys were like in the 50s-80s of the last century.
Among the 1,000 exhibits are tumbler dolls, teddy bears, clockwork cars, school bags, student uniforms, etc. The basement has a unique giant clock, with 5,000 parts, the largest in the world.
The 3rd floor is decorated with wonderful stained-glass windows on the theme of Russian folk tales and recreating paintings by the artist Lentulov. The roof of the 6th floor is an observation deck with views of the historical center. Each visit to the Central Children's House is a fun holiday for children and their parents.
GUM
The prototype of the Main Department Store was the covered gallery of Emmanuel in Milan (1877), built on the model of oriental bazaars. This fashion entered Europe and reached Russia. The Moscow passage is larger in area than the Milan one. It is traded on the upper floors.
The project for the creation of the passage was approved in 1889, and after 4 years, at the cost of the heroic efforts of the workers, the malls were opened. In them, electricity was generated by their own power plant, water was supplied from an artesian well. A telegraph office, a bank, restaurants, ateliers, etc. worked inside. The passage was a mini-city in which trade took place, transactions were made.
In 1922, by order of V. I. Lenin, a number of commercial buildings were declared the State Department Store (GUM), which became the basis for the NEP. Today, the magnificent architectural monument is the main shopping center of the capital. People come here not only for shopping, but also just to admire the external and internal beauty of its design.
There is a cinema hall that has been depicted in Russian films more than once. The facade of GUM is colored with incredible illumination. The most famous estate – Tsaritsyno spread its possessions over 405 hectares. The picturesque Khodynskoe field in the royal village of Chernaya Mud was chosen for the construction of the residence by Catherine II, when in 1775 she visited here at the celebration on the occasion of the anniversary of the Kyuchuk-Kaynardzhy peace with Turkey. Palace buildings were erected for 10 years. Until 1927, desolation reigned in Tsaritsyno, the buildings were dilapidated, the territory was overgrown with grass, the gardens were drying up.
In 1984, having received the status of the State Museum, the estate underwent restoration. A new stage of revival began in 2005 – 2007, when, as a result of a grandiose restoration, Tsaritsyno shone with a regal appearance. The buildings were restored to their former appearance, the surrounding area was restored. Today, there are 2 palaces here: the Big and Small Catherine II, whose architecture is impossible not to admire.
The Opera House (Middle Palace) hosts a permanent exhibition, “A Palace within a Palace”, illustrating the restoration of the Grand Palace, which today hosts temporary exhibitions.

One of the most ancient streets of the city, known since the 13th century, has seen many tragic and solemn events in Russian history. It connected Moscow with the northern cities and was called Nikolskaya in honor of the monastery of St. Nicholas the Old. Now the pedestrian artery connects 2 squares: Krasnaya and Lubyanskaya. Cathedral of Christ the Savior
The main temple of Russia – the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was erected in memory of the dead and in honor of the victory of the Russian people in the Patriotic War of 1812. Initially, they planned to erect a colossal monument on the Sparrow Hills, but due to the looseness of the local soil, this plan was abandoned. The temple, which was supposed to surpass the famous Peter's Cathedral in Rome in scale and beauty, was built on Volkhonka, not far from the Kremlin.
The project of the architect K. Ton was carried out from 1839 to 1881. During the Stalin era, the majestic building was destroyed in order to build the Palace of Soviets on this site. The idea was not realized because of the war. After perestroika, the government decided to build a new sanctuary.
A great work was carried out by the talented restorer A. Denisov, who painstakingly restored the former appearance of the cathedral according to the surviving drawings, diagrams and sketches. Zurab Tsereteli, who completed the construction management, made changes to the design of the object, making the exterior decoration of the facade bronze.
The interior decoration of the cathedral does not correspond to authenticity. It lacks gospel plots illustrating the events of the war with the French, as was intended by Tone. But even today the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, a place of pilgrimage for thousands of parishioners, pleases everyone with its noble beauty.
VDNH
The famous exhibition center of the USSR, created to demonstrate the achievements of agriculture and industry of the country, for some time after perestroika remained without the attention of the authorities. The equally famous sculptural group “Worker and Collective Farm Woman” – a symbol of the union of workers and peasants – also lost its meaning.
Today, VDNKh has been turned into a gigantic entertainment ground that combines an open-air museum, an amusement park and a wonderful walking place. There are catering establishments, many exhibition sites and research and development centers.
The Cosmonautics and Aviation Center demonstrates the entire history of the development of space achievements over many decades. The atmospheric place, which is more than 200 years old, once served as a brewery, distillery, craft workshops. Nowadays, the huge complex has been transformed into a grandiose exhibition space. Its organizer, Roman Trotsenko, got the idea to turn the abandoned pavilions into modern exhibition galleries when he saw the empty buildings covered with graffiti.
The WINZAVOD art project was carried out in 2007, and many representatives of artistic creativity came to the grand opening of it. New facilities for various purposes have been created here: shops, original cafes, educational centers. The cafe with the unusual name “Tsurtsum” hosts poets and their admirers, poetry evenings and creative meetings.

Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences
The architectural structure, directed to heaven with two high towers, is a long-term construction. The project of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences was conceived in the late 1930s. But only in 1967 a competition was organized for the implementation of the plan, and 2 groups of 8 architects were identified. The place chosen for construction on the high bank of the river was in doubt, therefore, the deepest pit dug in 1973 became a reliable basis for a large-scale structure.
It has underground floors. Yugoslav builders created a kind of masterpiece of architecture. And Soviet engineers, designers and scientists took part in the external design of the grandiose buildings. The president of the Academy of Sciences Mstislav Keldysh himself designed the decorative completion of the towers in the form of shiny metal structures, popularly nicknamed “golden brains”.
They embody the academician's dream of intergalactic travel, of the further progress of electronics in the country. It still remains a mystery how many underground floors there are in this grandiose building, shrouded in a veil of secrets and legends.
