A striking testimony to the reign of Victoria and Albert is the museum, which was opened in 1852 at the initiative of the royal couple after the triumphant success of the World Exhibition in London, held in 1851. The proceeds from the exhibition were partially used in the design of the “Museum of products”, as it was originally called. Today it is known as the Albert Hall.

Story

One of the most famous women in the UK, Queen Victoria ruled the country for 63 years, strengthening international ties through the family ties of her nine children, for which she received the nickname “Grandmother of Europe“. The Victorian era was the time of the greatest cultural, industrial, scientific and military development of Great Britain. The people adored their queen, considering her a model of high morality and strict morality, incorruptible honesty and fair objectivity.

Victoria was a happy wife and mother, she lived with her husband Albert Gotsky for more than 20 years and after his death she went into deep mourning for a long time, leaving business. After that, she had to return her positions of power and restore authority, which she successfully succeeded in: after the death of Albert, she ruled for another 40 years. With her death, the royal dynasty of Hanover ended, which was replaced by Saxe-Goburg-Gotha.

The purpose of the joint opening with the design school was to promote applied practical art. Later, the museum was given the name “Museum of Decorative Arts”, and Albert began to actively buy the best objects of decorative art, resulting in a large collection of exhibits. The couple decided to open an educational and educational center next to the museum, but its opening took place after the death of the prince, so Victoria called the center “Albert Hall”.

Architecture

The design engineers took as a basis an antique amphitheater approved by the prince, so the building is round in shape. It is located in South Kensington – an aristocratic fashionable area of ​​London, immersed in the greenery of Hyde Park, with a measured and calm lifestyle.

Unusual for modernity in form and design, the Victorian-style building is striking in its uniqueness, the correct symmetry of numerous arched windows located on three tiers of walls. The alternation of yellow and red tones makes this graceful building bright and attractive.

Outwardly, the Albert Hall is always beautiful: in cloudy weather, its warm colors delight the eye; evening lighting creates the effect of gilded walls; the bright sunbeams make it look like a precious treasure chest.

Coming closer to it, you can see on the walls a mosaic panel depicting figures-allegories in the form of women in ancient robes: Astronomy, History, Sculpture, Painting, Music under the general name “Triumph of Science and Art”. Despite repeated reconstructions and restorations, the appearance of the walls did not change.

Going inside the Albert Hall, you are immediately convinced of the truly royal scope and luxury of the decoration of the hall: boxes, armchairs, sofas made of red velvet, gilding sparkles everywhere. The tiers of the auditorium and the ceiling, decorated with round lamps that change the shades of illumination from bright blue to purple-red, amaze with their incredible beauty and originality of design. The lighting of the hall is a real firework of colors that turns the hall into a magical Chinese lantern.

The global significance of the Albert Hall

Now this magnificent gift of Queen Victoria to London serves as a center of musical and song art, a venue for world-class celebrations. Especially for the organization of concerts, the roof was changed, the hall was partially rebuilt to improve the acoustics (now it is impeccable).

In the early years of the hall's operation as a concert hall, classical performances by opera singers, symphony orchestras, famous violinists and pianists were practiced. Now the chic hall hosts artists and performers of various genres: pop, jazz, rockers. The most famous groups perform on its stage: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple; the best singers consider it an honor to perform their repertoire here.

This honor was awarded to the Russian singer Valeria, whose solo concert, well received by the public, took place on October 21, 2014.

Various English festivals are often held here, royal and children‘s parties are organized, charity concerts and exhibitions are held. The stage of the Albert Hall is never empty: every day music or singing voices ring out on it; the violin languishes brightly or the piano triumphs; the immortal classics, performed by a symphony orchestra, are jubilantly splashing around the hall.
