Holidays on the islands of Greece – Santorini, Corfu, Rhodes, Mykonos
Greece is an indescribable natural beauty, countless architectural sites, historical monuments and cultural heritage that fascinate at first sight. This country beckons travelers who want to touch the history of the ancient state, soak up the sun, lying on the white sandy beaches, swim in the clear waters of the gentle sea and just get acquainted with the customs and culture of the Greeks. Particular attention should be paid to the numerous islands, of which there are more than 1000, islands – each of which is individual and unique, having its own advantages and history.
One of these is Crete, one of the most popular islands in the world. The history of Crete began more than 7,000 years BC, of course, today it is difficult to believe it, but some remains of architectural structures that have survived to our time allow touching the legends of the ancient island. Crete has a large number of fortresses and palaces where the most famous kings lived. Some of the most popular places are Knossos, Phaistos palaces and Kato Zakros palace. Tourists are also attracted by the caves, which have a mythical origin. The Vai Palm Forest is famous for its special attractiveness – the only one of its kind in Europe – the most beautiful place on the island.
In addition, mills, gardens, parks, museums and, of course, pristine white sand beaches are presented to the attention of tourists. Some of the most popular resorts in Crete are: Stalis, Hersonissos, Chania, Rethymno, Elounda and Agios Nikolaos. Moreover, the last two places are quite expensive and fashionable resorts. As for Hersonissos and Stalis, they are ideal for young people, because they are party resorts. Chania and Retino are famous for their beautiful sandy beaches, measured relaxation, so these resorts are suitable for families or couples in love.
The island of Santorini, washed by the Aegean Sea, is suitable for both young people and older people – in a word, those who prefer active holidays. Santorini is a place that was actually formed on the rocks. Snow-white buildings and dark volcanic sand are a contrast that will remain in the memory of tourists forever, a contrast that makes you return to these places again. The resort is sure to appeal to those who enjoy the abundance of mountains and rocky terrain.
Santorini consists of many towns and villages, where there are convenient and comfortable hotels that meet all the requirements for a comfortable stay. As for the sights, there are a great many of them on the island, but you can easily see everything, because much is within walking distance. It is worth noting that due to the peculiarity of the island's terrain, you will have to walk a lot and uphill.
The archaeological reserve in the town of Akrotiri – with a rich history, the old Catholic Dominican monastery, the islets of Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni (from which you can look at the volcano up close) – this is just a small part of what tourists can visit.
Actually the same applies to the island of Corfu – one of the most romantic and green islands in Greece, which is replete with interesting places. The surprises begin with the fact that Corfu resembles an “Italian boot”, which lacks a “nose”. Corfu is distinctive and unique. Despite the fact that most of the resorts are located in the eastern part of the island, the best beaches with golden sand are located in the north. Numerous hotels of different price categories allow you to choose the resort and the hotel that will meet all the requirements and the pricing policy too.
In addition to the many gardens and parks in which Corfu is literally “drowning”, you can visit many historical sites and sights: the fortresses of Corfu town, the Cathedral of St. Spyridon, the Royal Palace, Spianada Square, the ancient city of Paleopolis, the village of Paleokastritsa and more.
Rhodes is a no less favorite Greek island among tourists. Its beauty is literally overwhelming. Unsurprisingly, the island is often referred to as the jewel of the Mediterranean. Moreover, it has something to see and something to be surprised at. Picturesque parks with wooden bridges, exotic plants and outlandish birds are simply mesmerizing, surprising and stunning at the same time. In general, Rhodes can be called a paradise for lovers of archeology, who should definitely visit the town of Lindos, the villages of Siana and Asklipio, as well as the ruins of ancient Kamiros.
It will not be superfluous for all tourists to look into a stunning place – the Petaloudes Valley (Valley of the Butterflies). As for the beaches, the best are located on the east coast between Faliraki and Lindos. Many of the beaches of Rhodes are ideal for surfers, who do not diminish from year to year, in fact, as well as young people who like to party. Many nightlife resorts offer various clubs, bars and discos.
All this can be found on the island of Mykonos, which is famous not only for its fun nightlife, where life is literally in full swing, but also for something else interesting.
Snow-white houses and houses, combined with blue windows, shutters and railings, perfectly contrast with the same blue waters of the sea. In combination with picturesque bays and light sand – it looks so aesthetically pleasing that it is just right to paint landscape paintings. Many of the island's resorts are considered elite vacation spots where famous world stars, politicians and the richest businessmen come. In addition to beautiful beaches, the best of which are concentrated on the south coast, and numerous surfing spots, Mykonos is famous for its ancient architectural monuments and structures.
In their free time from the beach, tourists can visit the windmills (they are considered the hallmark of the island), the Church of Our Lady of Paraportiani, numerous villages of the island (each of which has its own history and attractions), museums and Venice in Greece.
