It is located near the Sacré-Coeur Cathedral. The area became famous due to the restaurant “La Maire Catherine”. The restaurant got its name in honor of a woman named Catherine Lemoine, who became its founder in 1793. The restaurant's specialty was homemade food, it was distinguished by its sophistication and unforgettable taste.
Even during the occupation of Paris, Russian officers often looked into the restaurant “La Mere Catherine”. However, they were unhappy with the slow service. It is believed that the restaurants were called bistros, since it was the Russians who urged the waiters with the words “Quickly!”.
