7 new wonders of the world

The world is full of miracles – this is an axiom that does not require objections. There are so many of them around on every continent, in every country, that it is difficult to choose the most amazing miracle among them. Therefore, in 2001, a worldwide voting project was launched, the purpose of which was to identify 7 new wonders of the world. It was attended by 90 million people who expressed their opinion. As a result, dozens of various large-scale man-made structures became contenders for the title of wonders of the world, the grandeur and scope of which still amaze the imagination and serve as a mystery. Of these, an authoritative jury chose amazing objects worthy of being called the “New Wonders of the World.”

How not to call this the most grandiose building in the world a real miracle – a defensive wall 5-8 meters wide and 10 meters high, the construction of which began in the 3rd century BC. by order of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. The wall is 5000 km long. was called upon to protect the newly united small principalities and kingdoms into one state from the devastating raids of nomads. Its construction lasted for more than a millennium under different emperors, the wall was laid literally on the bones of peasants and soldiers driven here from all over China, dying from overwork dozens a day and immediately buried.

A section of the wall at 750 km. used for some time as a good road in difficult terrain. With the expansion of the borders of the Chinese state to the north, the strategic importance of the wall decreased significantly, and it gradually began to fall into disrepair. Some enterprising bosses even allowed it to be dismantled for building materials. However, in 1977, the supreme power imposed a strict ban on further destruction in order to leave the wall as a monument of history and the enormous work of millions of people.

Coliseum

Perhaps only some preschoolers do not know about the existence of this architectural colossus of Ancient Rome, and everyone else heard about the extraordinary monument in history lessons. Many lucky people had a chance to see the structure with their own eyes, looking at which, one cannot believe that it was created by human hands. The majestic amphitheater was erected in honor of the Flavian dynasty for various celebrations, fun events, gladiator fights and later jousting. The external decoration of the walls is amazing with a huge number of small details, colonnades, arched vaults. Even the remains of the walls of the Colosseum testify to the grandeur of the unique structure, which cannot but serve as a vivid example of a man-made miracle.

Machu Picchu

This ancient city of the Incas, full of mysterious mystery, is located in the mountains of Peru, on one of the ridges at an altitude of 2450 m above sea level. For several centuries, none of the European settlers suspected the existence of a city under the clouds, which was supposedly built in 1440 by the powerful Inca ruler Pachacutec as a safe haven – a winter residence.
From a height, a clear layout of the town is visible with the remains of stone walls of houses, service buildings, towers and terraces. They keep secrets about their former inhabitants: it is already difficult to establish true information about the number of people living here, about their way of life. Archaeological research bit by bit trying to restore the history of a unique place. Now a strictly defined number of tourists are allowed to visit it, so that the mysterious ruins are better preserved for further study as a monument of the great building art and diligence of the ancient Incas.

Petra

There are numerous legends about this ancient “golden” city, hidden in the rocks on the territory of Jordan, associated with countless treasures hidden in rock niches. The inaccessibility of its location indirectly confirms the veracity of the rumors about riches, so not only tourists, but also gambling treasure hunters come here.

A narrow kilometer-long gorge leads inquisitive travelers to the mysterious city, which welcomes everyone with the magnificent Treasury Palace, literally carved into a rock niche. Its majestic façade is decorated with sculptures and bas-reliefs, chiseled columns, and the upper part with intricate patterns. The pink city among the rocks is rightfully considered a new wonder of the world.

Taj Mahal

The unique Mausoleum, erected by order of Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife who died during childbirth, is considered a pearl of architecture. The memorial complex was built for 22 years by the best masters of India, Persia, the Middle East and Asia, who created a true miracle, a highly artistic work of architectural art.

The Taj Mahal is beautiful at any time of the day, in any light, in different weather, it does not lose its enchanting appeal, which makes those who come here freeze with admiration. Majestic white marble columns and round domes with thin spiers are directed to the heavens as a sign of asking the mercy of the Gods to the soul and ashes of the departed. Fine knitting of stucco patterns adorns the arched vaults of the niches and the plinth. The whole complex resembles a precious carved box, made by a master artist unsurpassed in its perfection.

The interior interiors are not inferior to the beauty and richness of the design of the exterior: bright burning colors are in harmony with calmly delicate shades, creating a uniquely beautiful, solemnly sad picture.

Statue of Christ the Redeemer

Among the numerous sculptural images of the Savior, this statue is considered a Miracle, not only because it is set high on the top of Mount Corcovado in Brazil, but also because its size surpasses all others. The total height of the statue, together with the pedestal, is 46 meters, the span of the spread arms is 30 meters, and the weight is 1145 tons. Despite the high installation, the entrance to the miracle sculpture is quite easy, thanks to the presence of a railway and a highway leading to it. Millions of tourists rise here to pay tribute and respect, as well as enjoy the panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro, picturesque beaches and a wonderful bay.

Pyramids of Chichen Itza in Mexico

It is not surprising that among the new wonders of the world there is another monument of Indian civilization: the Indians lived in Mexico for many centuries BC. The pyramids of Chichen Itza are evidence of the presence on this land of the legendary, mysterious Mayan tribe, who left us their calendar.

According to archaeologists, the ancient city and pyramids were built on the Yucatan Island in the 6th century. The name is translated as “the well of the Mayan tribe”, which is quite logically explained by the presence of 13 natural well formations here. Like the Egyptian ones, the local pyramids impress with their unrealistic dimensions and the art of building masonry. Thousands of tourists aspire to them, wishing to touch the mysterious ancient rarities.

There is no doubt that new generations will more than once determine new wonders of the World on our small and, at the same time, immensely large planet in terms of the variety of wonders.
