📺 Travel in the footsteps of your favorite TV shows
It’s so nice to relax in the evening after a busy day of work while watching your favorite TV series. But if you like to travel, then you can combine two hobbies at once. Go to places where actors heard, “Stop, it’s cut!” every day. In the meantime, check out our selection of filming locations for inspiration.
“Stranger Things”
Where to go: Vilnius, Lithuania
The series simply exploded in popularity among viewers. It impresses with its storyline and brilliant acting.
Season four footage, where Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Murray (Brett Gelman) followed Sheriff Hopper to Kamchatka, was filmed in the vicinity of Vilnius. One of the locations was Lukiskis Prison in the very heart of the Lithuanian capital.
The correctional facility was closed in 2019. That same year they removed some of the prices from Stranger Things. And in 2021, the prison doors opened again, but this time for excursions and various events, such as music festivals.
The second location for filming was the ancient Orthodox church of St. Nicholas in the town of Semiliškės, which according to the script housed a Soviet warehouse.
And 20 km from Vilnius there is Kivishkes Airport, which “played the role” of a landing site for aircraft in Alaska. According to the scenario, the airfield belongs to the pilot and smuggler Yuri. In real life, Kivishkės is used for skydiving.
What else was filmed in Lithuania:

“Wednesday”
Where to go: Romania
For the sake of the Gothic walls of the Nevermore School, which is supposed to be located in Vermont, I had to go to Transylvania to the Cantacuzino Castle. After the death of the owner in 1911, the building was empty for a long time and was looted. In 2004, the castle was sold to private ownership, and after restoration it was opened to tourists.
For scenes filmed inside the school, such as the courtyard and principal Mrs. Weems' office, the location was the historic Casa Monteoru in downtown Bucharest. This memorable building of Romanian architecture has many luxuriously decorated rooms and a pompous marble staircase.
Miss Thornhill's greenhouse was the Bucharest Botanical Garden, which is constantly open to visitors.
Another location that “Wednesday” fans should visit is the Konakula mansion. In the series, this is the creepy abandoned house of the Gates family. But in fact – an old historical building in the county of Dambovita, the northern part of the Romanian capital.
Lakes Branesti and Sterbei are not only some of the most beautiful bodies of water in Romania. But footage of the Po Cup competition was also filmed on their smooth waters.
What else was filmed in Romania:
- “The Vampire Diaries”;
- “Pretty Little Liars”.
“Magnificent century”
Where to go: Istanbul, Turkey
Turkish TV series have firmly established themselves in the gadgets of TV show lovers. One of those who enchantingly broke through to international screens was “The Magnificent Century”. The plot is based on real events during the reign of the Ottoman Empire by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Of course, there was some forbidden love, intrigue and a struggle for power.
The series was filmed in Istanbul in a replica of Topkapi Palace specially built for filming and on decorative streets, gardens and courtyards. Recreating an entire large district was so expensive that critics predicted the series would fail. But “The Magnificent Century” exceeded all expectations.
And although all the episodes were filmed in a pavilion, the Topkapi Palace Museum gained its share of popularity, gathering fans of the TV show within its walls.
Of course, hardly anyone will go to Turkey just to see the location alone, but Istanbul is like one big beautiful scenery that every tourist should see.

“The Squid Game”
Where to go: Seoul, South Korea
Along with the Turks, the Koreans are conquering the television series industry market.
In order to see the places from “The Squid Game” with your own eyes, you need to go to Seoul.
The place where the main character places bets on horse races is the Sanbong bus station in the very center of the city. And the episode where Ki-Hoon is thrown out of the car after refusing to participate in the game was filmed in the Namsan Park area. From there you can clearly see the Seoul Tower.
Also in the footage you can see an amusement park, which is located on Wolmido Island in Incheon, also known as the modern Gangnam district.
The rocky island where the Squid Game is held is called Sang-gap-do. It is located in the city of Onjin on the western side of the Korean Peninsula. The place is uninhabited and only a few fishermen can be found there.

” Game of Thrones “
Where to go: Spain
It is impossible to remain silent about the series, which captivated literally everyone who watched at least one episode. Apparently it's all fantasy magic. Over the course of 8 seasons, the show's actors traveled to a bunch of countries. So those who decide to travel to the Game of Thrones filming locations will have to take several vacations at once.
In the meantime, let's take a look at the most beautiful locations from the series, which Spain took over.
Dragonstone Castle is the family estate of Daenerys, located on the small island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe on the coast of the Bay of Biscay. The place is deserted, but after the series it begins to become more and more popular.
But the Royal Palace in Seville, opposite, is well known to both tourists and Game of Thrones fans. He “played the role” of the Martell family home in Dorne with the poetic name of Sunspear. The palace was closed to visitors during filming.
The dragon's lair, where almost all the main characters met at the end of season 7, was the ruins of the Seville Italica amphitheater.
And for filming the Dothraki Sea, two locations were used at once – Bardenas Reales in the semi-desert area of the Spanish province of Navarre and Pecina in the province of Almeria, part of Andalusia.
The castle of the Tyrell house, Highgarden, is located 15 minutes from Seville and in real life is called Almodóvar del Rio.
One of the episodes was filmed at a bullring in the city of Osuna. During filming, local residents were able to earn extra money by playing extras, and cafes and restaurants received record revenue.
The Long Bridge of Volantis can be recognized in the outline of the Roman Bridge in Cordoba. And the Catalan city of Girona served as the filming location for Braavos.

- “That Boy.”
“Sherlock”
Where to go: London, UK
If you are ready to follow in the footsteps of the extraordinary detective Sherlock and his partner Dr. Watson, you will need a UK visa. After all, the series takes place in London.
The most popular location is 221B Baker Street. But we won’t go there this time, because the BBC chose a quieter place for filming the series. The house where Benedict Cumberbatch spent his filming days is located at 187 North Gower Street. Here you can have a great time eating apple pie at Speedy's Cafe, the sign and interior of which appear in the frame every now and then.
And then the route will run through dozens of famous places, such as Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, near which the police found Dr. Watson with paint in his hands. The route will include the Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathedral, the Millennium Bridge and others.
In addition, you should definitely take a walk near St. Bartholomew's Hospital, from which Sherlock staged his jump, and the Skate Park near Queen Elizabeth Hall, wander around Chinatown and look into New Scotland Yard – the headquarters of the local police. So wear more comfortable shoes.
What else was filmed in the UK:
- “Peaky Blinders”;
- “Downton Abbey”;
- “Sexual education.”
“Sex and the City”
Where to go: Paris, France
To briefly feel like Carrie Bradshaw, who only takes five minutes from a broken heart and scattered necklace beads on the floor of the Plaza Athenee Hotel to the return of the love of her life, you need to go to Paris. It was there that the main character flew away to pick up her beloved artist.
You can get acquainted with Asian, European and, of course, French cuisine in the same restaurant where Carrie met the ex-wife of Alexander Petrovsky. The place is called Kong. We can say that this is a restaurant only for “our own people”, because there are very few tourists there. But sometimes you can meet other “Sex and the City” fans.
And the iconic place of the series was the Pont des Arts, where Carrie traditionally raises her leg while kissing Mr. Big. The bridge has long served as a location for lovers to meet, so all its railings are full of locks of various shapes and sizes, symbolizing strong feelings.
What else was filmed in France:
- “Emily in Paris “;
- “Versailles”;
- “Ten percent”.
