When traveling, questions often arise as to whether your pets can travel with you. Airlines have different requirements for transporting pets. We studied which airlines allow the transportation of animals in the cabin. We also figured out their pet policy. By the way, a travel agency can help you find convenient tickets and travel tours.

French Bee (France)

French Bee only allows domestic dogs and cats to be carried in the cabin. However, there is an exception: pets cannot be transported on flights to Tahiti and back.

The carrier has set a pet weight limit of 8 kg including carrying. The airline accepts larger animals in the luggage compartment. The maximum size of the carrier cannot exceed 43 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm. The owner will have to pay 50 euros for transporting the pet. Please note that you will need a visa to travel to Europe.

Georgian Airways ( Georgia)

The Georgian airline allows the transportation of pets both in the cabin and in the luggage compartment.

To ensure your pet travels with you, please notify the carrier when booking or at least 48 hours before your flight. You can take animals into the salon whose weight with a carrier (55 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm) does not exceed 8 kg. The fee for transporting a pet in the cabin is 80 euros.

Helvetic Airways ( Switzerland)

Helvetic Airways is a Swiss company that flies primarily within Europe and North Africa. It does not prohibit the carriage of pets in the cabin unless they are pre-registered at the time of booking.

For animals weighing up to 7 kg (including carrier) there is an additional charge of CHF 80. This amount must be paid upon registration. The maximum size of the carrier is 56 cm x 32 cm x 27 cm. It must be waterproof and remain closed on the floor throughout the flight. The animal should be placed in a container under the seat in front during takeoff and landing.

HiSky (Moldova)

HiSky is a young airline that accepts pets on all routes except Dublin, London and Lisbon.

You can take a pet into the salon whose total weight including carrying does not exceed 8 kg. The total dimensions of the carrier cannot exceed 115 cm. An additional fee of 50 euros is charged for transporting a pet. Pets must check in for a flight at least 90 minutes before departure. Don't forget to provide all required documents.

Iberia ( Spain)

The Spanish airline Iberia allows pets to be transported in the cabin and luggage compartment. The carrier classifies dogs, cats, fish, turtles and birds, except raptors, as pets. A seat in the cabin must be reserved in advance.

When transporting a pet in the cabin, its weight including the carrier is limited to 8 kg. The size of the carrier bag should fit 45 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm. Two small lightweight animals can be transported in one container.

The fee for transporting a pet differs depending on the destination: the amount for a flight within Spain is 40 euros, for a flight to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East you will have to pay 60 euros, and transportation to America and Asia will cost you 180 euros.

Iberia Express (Spain)

The main directions of the budget airline Iberia Express are short and medium-haul flights throughout Spain and Europe. Company rules allow passengers to transport pets in the cabin and luggage compartment.

The requirements for transporting animals are in many ways similar to the requirements of the main company Iberia: an animal weighing up to 8 kg (including carrying) must be in a bag with a maximum size of 45 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm. List of pets (cats, dogs, fish, birds and turtle) is also identical. However, the airline prohibits the transportation of mustelids (ferrets, martens, stoats, minks) even on connecting flights.

The cost of a flight within Spain is 40 euros, to Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and the Canary Islands – 60 euros, and to America, Asia and South Africa – 180 euros.

Icelandair (Iceland)

Icelandic airline Icelandair does not accept pets in the cabin. This is due to numerous restrictions and prohibitions, including long quarantine for the pet. If desired, the passenger can transport the animal in a special compartment for transporting animals with climate control. Access to the cabin during the flight is limited to trained and certified service dogs only.

ITA Airways (Italy)

State-owned airline ITA Airways allows passengers to carry cats, dogs and ferrets on board. Special requirements are established for hamsters and rats. The company also prohibits the import of birds from Asia, Turkey, Russia, South Africa, Romania and the Balkan Peninsula.

An animal weighing up to 8 kg must remain in the carrier until the end of the flight. The size of the bag should not exceed 40 cm x 20 cm x 24 cm. Soft or semi-rigid carriers can be 2-4 cm higher. Passengers are allowed to transport up to five animals of the same species at a time. Their total weight should not exceed 8 kg, and their total weight with carrier and food should not exceed 10 kg.

To transport a pet on a domestic flight you will pay 60 euros or 70 dollars, within Europe, North Africa and the Middle East – 90 euros or 100 dollars, and other regions will cost you 210 euros or 230 dollars.

Jet2 (UK)

British airline Jet2 prohibits the carriage of pets on board its aircraft. The only exception is made for registered guide and assistance dogs.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Netherlands)

The flag carrier of the Netherlands allows two options for transporting animals: in the cabin and in the luggage compartment.

A passenger can take one cat or dog into the cabin on a flight within Europe. The flight is allowed in both economy and business class e. The maximum weight of the animal with a carrier, the dimensions of which should not exceed 46 cm x 28 cm x 24 cm, is 8 kg. The company does not allow pets in the cabin if you are flying business class or premium comfort on an intercontinental flight.

Pet seat must be reserved at least 48 hours prior to flight. The passenger and pet must travel on the same flight. The amount of the transportation fee depends on the airports of departure and arrival. The fee varies between 75-400 euros. The system calculates the exact amount for each case when booking.

La Compagnie (France)

Boutique airline La Compagnie specializes in scheduled flights from New York to Paris and seasonal flights from New York to Nice.

Cats, dogs and dwarf rabbits are allowed on board the aircraft in the cabin and luggage compartment. The special status of the company is reflected in the requirements for transporting pets. The weight of a pet with a carrier can reach 15 kg. The size of the carrier cannot exceed 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm.

Each passenger can only bring one pet into the cabin, and the company allows a maximum of three animals per flight. Therefore, you must reserve a seat for your pet at least 48 hours before departure. The carrier will let you know if there is any unfilled quota for your pet. For the transportation of an animal, La Compagnie charges a fee of 10% of the cost of the passenger ticket.

The carrier bag is considered carry-on luggage. This means that in addition to it you can only take a small personal item. All other luggage will need to be checked in. When traveling with a pet, you will not be able to recline the seats completely due to the seating arrangement.

Level (Spain)

Dogs, cats, fish, turtles and birds (except birds of prey) are allowed into the cabin if they were specified during booking.

The flight must be carried out in carrying bags measuring 45 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm and weighing up to 8 kg.

Pet owners will have to pay a fee of 180 euros or $210. Payment is only available at the airport.

Loganair (UK)

Loganair is a Scottish airline that prohibits the carriage of pets in the cabin. Despite this, it offers the most comfortable pet policies of any UK carrier.

The company's rules allow animals to be transported in the luggage compartment on domestic flights, except for London flights. Carriage in the cabin is permitted only for assistance dogs that accompany the visually impaired. Space for such an animal must be reserved when booking your flight at least 14 days before your travel date.

LOT Polish Airlines ( Poland)

Poland's flagship carrier allows passengers to transport dogs, cats and ferrets both in the cabin and in the luggage compartment of the aircraft.

The requirements for moving pets are quite standard: the maximum weight of an animal in a carrier cannot exceed 8 kg. The maximum parameters for a pet container vary depending on the aircraft:

  • for B787 and B737 – 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm;
  • for DH4, E70, E75, E95 – 45 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm.

To transport pets in the cabin on domestic flights you will pay 40 euros, on flights within Europe and the Middle East – 60 euros, and travel to North America and Asia will cost 100 euros.

Lufthansa ( Germany)

The German airline allows the transportation of pets both in the cabin and in the luggage compartment.

You are allowed to take a cat or dog into the cabin, the total weight of which, including the carrying bag, reaches 8 kg. The animal must be transported in a container with dimensions up to 118 cm (55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm). The carrier must be located under the seat, which is located in front of the passenger. If this is not possible, you should attach the bag to your seat belt using a leash.

Pre-registration of animals is required 72 hours prior to departure. Each passenger cannot carry more than two pets on one flight. Be sure to print, fill out and sign two copies of the Pet Travel Form at the front desk.

The amount for transporting an animal in the aircraft cabin is calculated depending on the route and direction. You can find out the exact amount of the fee in the baggage calculator on the airline’s website.

Luxair (Luxembourg)

Luxair airline rules allow you to transport cats and dogs not only in the luggage compartment, but also in the aircraft cabin. Exceptions are the following destinations: Great Britain, Ireland, Senegal and the UAE. No more than three pets can be carried in cabin on any given flight, so please reserve your pet's seat at least 72 hours before departure.

The carrier has established a standard “8 kg rule”. The size of the carrier bag can reach 45 cm x 23 cm x 25 cm or 45 cm x 42 cm x 20 cm. One passenger cannot carry more than one pet in the container.

The company has established a special requirement for an animal's passport: it must contain a note about rabies vaccination, which was done at least 30 days before and maximum 3 years before travel.

The cost of transporting a pet in economy class is 70 euros.

Myway Airlines ( Georgia)

Myway Airlines is a small Georgian airline that flies to Tel Aviv, Tbilisi and Yerevan.

Airline rules allow you to take no more than two cats or dogs into the cabin. The maximum weight of each animal with a carrier should not exceed 8 kg. Carrying dimensions are limited: 55 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm.

Advance reservations for your pet are required. The fee for placing a pet in the aircraft cabin is charged at the excess baggage rate.

Neos Air (Italy)

The airline Neos Air, which operates flights from Milan, allows the transportation of animals in the cabin. This rule does not apply to travel to Mauritius (in the hold only) and Jamaica, as well as to China and the UAE.

The airline has set an increased weight limit for cats and dogs of 10 kg, including carrying. The animal must be in a container measuring no more than 48 cm x 35 cm x 29 cm. During the flight, more than two pets cannot be carried in the cabin. Therefore, you must reserve a seat for your pet during check-in or no later than 48 hours before departure.

There is a charge of 100 euros for transporting a pet in the cabin of a Neos Air aircraft.

Nordica (Estonia)

The Estonian flagship airline allows pets to be carried on board the aircraft, both in the cabin and as checked baggage or cargo. The carrier limits the number of animals on each flight to four, so you should arrange a place for your pet in advance. You can book it within 24 hours of booking your own flight and no later than 24 hours before departure.

The rules for moving a pet in the cabin are fairly standard: a pet in a carrier weighing up to 8 kg must be in a container with maximum parameters of 56 x 45 x 25 cm.

The owner is charged 50 euros for transporting a pet.

Norwegian ( Norway)

The budget Norwegian airline allows pets in the cabin and luggage compartment. Cats and dogs are allowed in the cabin on flights within the Schengen area and/or the European Union. During the flight, no more than two pets are allowed in the cabin.

Norwegian has established an “8 kg rule” (weight of pet + carrier). The size of the carrier should not exceed 43 cm x 31 cm x 20 cm.

If you are traveling with a pet, you must check in at least one hour before departure. The fee for transporting a pet differs depending on the payment method: paying online will cost you 55-75 euros, and when paying at the airport you will need to transfer 60-85 euros.

Pegasus Airlines ( Turkey)

Turkish airline Pegasus operates domestic flights to Turkey and European destinations.

On domestic scheduled flights, Pegasus allows the carriage of cats, dogs and birds, and on international scheduled flights – only cats and dogs. Carriage of animals in the cabin is not available on the following routes: UK, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The owner can take a pet weighing up to 8 kg into the aircraft cabin, taking into account the weight of the carrier, the size of which cannot exceed 32 cm x 32 cm x 50 cm.

The fee for transporting an animal in the cabin on a domestic flight is 200 Turkish lira, on an international flight it is $60, and a trip to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will cost 400 Turkish lira.

People's Airline (Austria)

The small Austrian airline operates seasonal flights to a number of destinations, including Catania, Ibiza, Mallorca and others.

People's Airline accepts pets on board both in the cabin and in the baggage area.

It is allowed to transport cats and dogs in carriers in the aircraft cabin, the maximum weight of which cannot exceed 8 kg. Please note the size of the carrier: the dog bag cannot be larger than 50cm x 45cm x 24cm.

The amount that the pet owner must pay for one pet on the flight is 50 euros or 55 Swiss francs.

Play ( Iceland)

Low-cost carrier Play appeared on the market relatively recently. As with Icelandair, Play does not allow animals on board. The main reason for this decision is the long quarantine for the animal in Iceland. The only exception is made for assistance dogs that accompany the visually impaired.

Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas (Spain)

The Spanish carrier, which flies to South American and Caribbean destinations, carries pets in the cabin and in the luggage compartment.

The carrier has established an increased weight limit for the animal: a pet weighing up to 10 kg is allowed on board in a carrier measuring up to 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. If you are flying in business class, you will not be able to take your pet with you – access for the animal in this segment closed.

On flights from Spain, transporting an animal costs 150 euros + taxes. For flights from Latin America, this amount is $200 + taxes.

Pobeda (Russia) 

The low-cost Russian airline primarily operates domestic flights and covers several international destinations.

The airline's rules allow pet dogs, assistance dogs, guide dogs, cats, dwarf rabbits, ferrets and birds to be carried on board the aircraft. But you won't be able to take your pet on a flight to the UAE.

Also, no more than 10 animals can be carried on a flight. The weight of the pet with the carrier should not exceed 8 kg, and the maximum dimensions of the carrier are 46 cm x 28 cm x 22 cm. You can add your pet to the flight when booking tickets on the airline’s website, as well as to an existing reservation before completing online check-in.

The cost of transporting a pet when paying online is 1999 Russian rubles, when paying at the airport – 3000 rubles.

Red Wings Airline (Russia)

The regional Russian airline Red Wings allows the carriage of dogs, cats and birds in the cabin on charter and scheduled flights.

An animal in a container with a total weight of up to 8 kg can be kept in the aircraft cabin. The maximum size of the carrying bag is 115 cm (height should not exceed 26 cm).

It is required to inform the company in advance about transporting a pet. This can be done when making a reservation or at the time of purchasing a ticket no later than 48 hours before the flight.

Payment for the movement of animals is calculated according to the tariff for non-standard baggage.

Rossiya Airlines (Russia)

One of the largest Russian airlines accepts animals into the aircraft cabin and luggage compartment. The airline allows the carriage of cats, dogs, birds, ferrets, raccoons, hedgehogs and even foxes.

An animal whose total weight in a carrier does not exceed 8 kg is allowed to travel in the passenger cabin. The dimensions of a soft bag cannot be more than 126 cm, a hard one – 44 cm x 30 cm x 26 cm. A passenger can transport only one animal in the cabin.

Requests to transport a companion animal or service dog must be submitted no later than six hours prior to flight departure time.

Transportation of a pet in the aircraft cabin is paid according to the tariffs for non-standard baggage and is calculated individually depending on the flight.

Ryanair (Ireland)

Irish airline Ryanair does not allow pets on its flights. The exception is guide dogs and assistance dogs. However, even these categories of animals are not allowed on flights to Israel and Morocco.

SATA Azores Airlines ( Porto Galia)

The SATA Azores company operates flights both between the Azores Islands and to mainland Portugal, Europe, and North America. The airline's rules allow pets to be transported in the cabin and luggage compartment.

A passenger can take an animal into the cabin in a carrier (55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm) weighing up to 8 kg. Pre-booking of pet space is required when booking a passenger flight or through a travel agency.

The fee for transporting a pet differs depending on the chosen destination: on flights within the Azores Islands and domestic flights this amount is 35 euros, to Europe and Africa – 70 euros, to the USA and Canada – 100 euros or 135 dollars.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) ( Denmark, Norway and Sweden)

The joint flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden transports pets both in the cabin and in the hold.

According to the company's rules, passengers can transport cats and dogs in the cabin, the weight of which with a carrier (40 cm x 25 cm x 23 cm) reaches 8 kg. To travel with an animal, you must send a corresponding request to the airline. It is recommended to do this no later than 24 hours before departure. If your request is approved, you will need to fill out a special form and submit it during registration.

SAS does not carry animals in business class or on charter flights. The fee for transporting a pet on a domestic flight is 55 euros, on a flight within Canada, Europe and the Middle East – 75 euros, to Asia, Canada and the USA – 99 euros, to China – 149 euros (payments in equivalent currencies are accepted).

Sevenair ( Portugal)

Sevenair is a Portuguese company that flies domestically. The carrier allows animals to be transported in the cabin and luggage compartment.

You must obtain prior approval to transport your pet in the cabin. The fee for this service is EUR 8.10 + VAT per kg. Please note that this amount can only be paid at the airport. The maximum weight of an animal in a container is 8 kg. The maximum size of a carry bag on an airplane is 45 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm.

Sky Express ( Greece)

The service for transporting pets in the cabin is available on all flights except London.

To take your pet into the salon, its weight including the carrier must be a maximum of 8 kg. Cats and dogs must be transported in a container measuring up to 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. The carrier asks you to choose soft carriers.

The fee for this service on a domestic flight is 25 euros. International travel will cost more – 50 euros. Airline rules require you to reserve a seat for your pet no later than 24 hours before departure, and to arrive at the check-in counter at least an hour before departure.

SkyUp Airlines (Ukraine)

A low-cost carrier from Ukraine allows the transportation of cats and dogs in the aircraft cabin and in the luggage compartment.

You must pre-book a seat for your pet in the cabin and pay for it no later than 24 hours before departure. This can be done through your personal account on the carrier’s website.

SkyUp is one of the few airlines that allows pets in a carrier weighing up to 10 kg. The dimensions of the container must be within 50 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm. During takeoff and landing, the pet carrier must be under the seat in front. During the flight, the passenger can hold it in his hands.

The fee for transporting a pet in the cabin is 65 euros when paid online.

Smartwings & Smartwings Slovakia ( Czech Republic and Slovakia)

SunExpress (Turkey)

SunExpress primarily operates flights within Turkey, tourist flights within Europe and seasonal flights. This company allows pets to be transported in the cabin.

To do this, your cat or dog in a carrier (55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm) should not weigh more than 8 kg. You must register your pet three business days before travel.

The fee for transporting a pet on a domestic flight starts from 149.99 Turkish lira, on an international route – from 59.99 euros.

SWISS (Switzerland)

SWISS allows cats and dogs to be carried in the cabin and in the luggage compartment. Animals in carriers up to 8 kg are allowed into the salon. The maximum parameters of the container for your pet can reach 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm.

You will need to print and fill out two forms and present them to the front desk. This will confirm that the animal meets all established requirements.

If you are flying directly to Switzerland, customs will check your pet at the airport. The owner will be charged an additional fee for such inspection. On flights to Hong Kong, Ireland, South Africa, the UAE and the UK, animals are carried only in the cargo hold.

Pet travel fees range from €50 or $57 on domestic flights to €110 or $126 on long-haul intercontinental flights.

TAP Air Portugal (Portugal)

This Portuguese airline accepts pets on board both in the cabin and in the luggage compartment.

Your cat or dog can be carried in the cabin during the flight as long as the weight in the carrier does not exceed 8 kg. A container measuring 40 cm x 33 cm x 17 cm must be placed under the seat. You will not be able to take your pet into executive class on long-haul flights (with the exception of assistance dogs).

In order for your pet to be guaranteed a seat in the cabin, you must first request such a service. This can be done when booking your trip or 48 hours before your flight. If you are arriving from outside the EU, you must email the General Veterinary Office at least 48 hours before arrival.

Pet travel fee is:

  • on domestic flights – 40 euros or 48 dollars (when paying online), 45 euros or 58 dollars (when paying by other methods);
  • on flights to Europe, Morocco, Tunisia and flights between Accra and Sao Tome – 70 euros or 88 dollars (online), 75 euros or 95 dollars (other ways);
  • on intercontinental flights – 150 euros or 185 dollars (online), 160 euros or 199 dollars (other ways).

TAROM ( Romania)

The Romanian flag carrier welcomes cats and dogs into the aircraft cabin and luggage compartment. Romania is part of the European Union. If you are arriving from third countries, your animal must undergo veterinary control. You can only go through it at Henri Coanda Airport (Bucharest) and Avram Iancu Airport (Cluj).

The cabin can accommodate animals weighing up to 8 kg (carrying weight is included in this allowance). The pet must be in a soft material container measuring no more than 42 cm x 26 cm x 20 cm. Please remember to include your pet in your booking and provide the completed form upon check-in.

Transavia & Transavia France ( Netherlands and France)

The airline flies from French and Dutch airports to Western and Central Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Transavia & Transavia France allows cats and dogs to be transported in the cabin. To do this, you must pre-book your seat no later than two hours before departure.
