About us

Who we are

Behind tourism.com.de there is a small travel desk: people who travel with a backpack, a rental car and a train ticket themselves, and who plan, write, check and update the articles on this website.

We are not a travel agency. We do not sell trips, we do not run hotels and we do not broker insurance. You cannot book anything on this website: when you click through, you land directly with the provider, and the contract is between you and them.

We work as an editorial team, not as individual travel bloggers with a face and an Instagram profile. That is a deliberate choice: we do not want to invent people who do not exist, or claim trips that nobody made. As soon as someone on the team puts their own name behind an article, that name appears underneath it.

What you will find here

  • Practical travel guides to cities and countries: sights with opening hours, prices and how to get there, without the detour through the tourist brochure.
  • Hotel round-ups by location, price bracket, and who a place is not right for.
  • Lists and comparisons: the best beaches, museums, viewpoints and day trips, each with the criterion used to rank them.
  • Itineraries for three days up to two weeks, with realistic travel times instead of wishful thinking.
  • Travel tips: entry rules and visas, eSIM, rental cars, luggage, a travel first-aid kit, what is really worth it and what is not.

The content is available in twelve languages. German is our main language; the other versions are translations of the same editorial state.

How we work

For every article we first decide which places belong in it and why. Then we check opening hours, admission prices, addresses and directions against the official website of the museum, the city or the transport operator, and we put the date of that check into the text, for example "opening hours and prices checked on 2 September 2026 on the official website".

Where we have not visited a place ourselves, we do not pretend otherwise. We mark first-hand experience as first-hand experience; everything else we mark as research and name the source.

Articles about prices, visas and opening hours get reviewed several times a year, all others at least once a year. The "Updated on" date changes only when we have genuinely changed something, not at the push of a button across every page at once.

Our principles

  1. Sources before opinions. Numbers appear in the text only with a source and a date. Where we could not verify something, we write it without a number.
  2. First-hand only where it is real. "We were there" appears only if someone from the team was there.
  3. One drawback per recommendation. No hotel, museum or tour suits everyone. Who something is not right for is stated in the text.
  4. Updates carry a date. Check date in the text, change date at the top, no bulk updates.
  5. Advertising is labeled. Affiliate links carry the word "Ad". Selection and order are independent of that. We do not run paid guest posts.

What we live on

Affiliate commissions. If you book a ticket, a hotel, a transfer or a rental car through a link labeled "Ad", we receive a small share from the provider. The price stays the same for you. Which providers we name, and in what order, we decide independently of that.

What this means in practice, which partners we work with and what we do not do is set out on the page How we make money.

What you will not find here

  • No booking funnel, no shopping cart, no "our own tours" and no "our own hotels".
  • No travel advice by phone, no custom trip planning to order.
  • No insurance brokerage and no recommendation of specific policies: on insurance we only point out what to watch for in the small print.
  • No medical advice. On health topics we link to official bodies, we do not replace them.
  • No paid guest posts without labeling, and no topics outside travel.

A word about Russia

We do not write about travel to Russia and we do not advertise travel services there. One reason is legal: Article 5n(2) of Regulation (EU) 833/2014 prohibits the provision and promotion of tourism services in Russia. The other is an editorial decision, given Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. We treat Crimea as occupied Ukrainian territory and Abkhazia as part of Georgia under international law.
