Malta

1

Malta looks like a simple destination until you start planning. The islands are small, but there are several areas to stay in, and they differ a lot in character. Beaches can be sandy or rocky, and not all of them are easy to reach without a car. On top of that come the ferries to Gozo and Comino, each with its own rules. These are the questions that usually bring people to this section.

The core of the section is material on where to go and what to see. There is an overview of Malta's resorts sorted by purpose: beach, history, nightlife. There is a long guide to Valletta with the main sights of the fortress city. A separate piece covers the beaches: where the sand is, where the rocks are and how to get there without a car. Another article explains what people usually do not expect from the smallest country in the European Union.

The second group of articles answers practical questions. We look at where to stay in Malta: the areas, the hotels and the transport in each of them. There is a ready one-week itinerary with places, transport and prices. A day trip to Gozo has its own piece: ferry, route, costs. The Blue Lagoon on Comino is described in the same detail: the access pass, ferries and boats. To help you pick the time of your trip, there are articles on the seasons, including September and October.

Every article opens with a short conclusion: the main point is made in the first paragraphs. Then come the practical blocks: how to get there, how much time to allow, what to buy in advance. For every price and every timetable we give the source and the date it was checked. We verify the data against the official websites of carriers, museums and local authorities. We write about the downsides plainly when a place is overcrowded, the journey is awkward or getting into the water is difficult.

The section is meant for those who have already chosen Malta and are planning the trip on their own. It suits first-time visitors who want to understand how the islands work. It also suits those who are coming back and looking for new places beyond Valletta. If you are still choosing between countries, start with the "Europe" section. If you expect a ready tour with a guide, these texts will be of little help: we only inform.

We suggest starting with the overview article on what people do not expect from the country. It gives the general picture and clears up the typical mistaken expectations. Then read the piece on the areas and choose where to stay. After that, open the one-week itinerary and cut it down to the days you have. The articles on Gozo, Comino, the beaches and Valletta are best read last, when the backbone of the plan is ready. The piece on the seasons will be useful earlier if you have not yet chosen your dates.

The "Malta" section belongs to "Europe", which in turn belongs to "Destinations". It has no subsections yet: all the articles sit in a single list. On the same level are sections on other countries, for example "France", "Germany", "England", "Belgium" and "Denmark". Next to them are "Bulgaria", "Finland" and "Andorra". They will come in handy if you are comparing destinations or putting together a trip across several countries.

We update the articles in this section. Prices, ferry timetables and visiting rules change, so we go back to the texts and check them against official sources. The date of the last check is given in the article itself. If a lot of time has passed since then, recheck the key data on the website of the carrier or the site you plan to visit. This applies above all to the Blue Lagoon access pass and the ferry services. We do not go into the substance of entry rules, insurance or medical matters: for those you need to turn to official government sources.

The section will grow with new texts on the towns, islands and seasons of Malta. We do not promise to cover every topic at once. But every published article answers a specific planning question. Open the one closest to what you need right now and write down what has to be decided before the trip: area, transport, passes and tickets. With a list like that, the rest of the planning goes noticeably faster.
