🌏 Africa

9

Africa is too big to plan as a whole. You usually arrive here with a specific country in mind: Egypt for the sea and the temples, Morocco for Marrakesh and the desert, Zanzibar or the Seychelles for the beach. Then the practical questions begin. Which area to stay in, which month to go, what to buy in advance and how to get from one place to another.

Most of the guides are about Egypt. We look at the resorts on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, El Gouna and Luxor. Separate pieces cover the sights: the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Valley of the Kings. There are hotel selections built around a specific need: a coral reef right off the shore, a water park for kids, a heated pool for winter, a beachfront all-inclusive.

The second big topic is seasons. We write about Egypt month by month, about a Nile cruise at different times of year, about traveling during Ramadan and about the condition of the Red Sea corals. These pieces help you choose dates that fit the purpose of your trip. Diving, temples and the beach each call for different weather. There are also practical guides: which souvenirs to bring back from Egypt and how to spot a fake, which excursions to pick from Hurghada.

The other countries are covered selectively but practically. For Morocco there are hotels and riads in Marrakesh, day trips from the city, a breakdown of a group tour to the Sahara, the road from Fez to Chefchaouen and a piece on driving and car rental. For the south of the continent: the neighborhoods of Cape Town, mobile service and eSIM in South Africa, a two-week route through Namibia. For the islands: Zanzibar, the Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Cape Verde, with areas, beaches and hotels. Madagascar and the Seychelles have overviews of resorts and islands, and Zanzibar has a selection of beaches where the tide does not get in the way of swimming.

Every guide opens with a short answer to the main question. Then come the practical sections: tickets, transport, areas, time needed for a visit, common tricks to watch for on the ground. We check prices and opening hours against official websites and name the source next to the figure. Each text carries the date it was checked. If details may change, we say so in the text. We are direct about the downsides: summer heat, lines, pushy vendors, long transfers.

This section suits those who travel independently or are choosing a resort hotel and want to understand what they are paying for. It is useful for families with children, for snorkeling fans and for anyone planning a trip by car. If you need an overview of every country on the continent, there is none yet. Many destinations are not covered so far, and we do not pretend otherwise. We do not sell anything or put trips together, we only explain how to choose.

Start with a guide on the season: it will settle your dates and region. Then choose an area or resort, and only after that a hotel. Sights and day trips are best read last, once your base is clear. The pieces on mobile service, car rental and road rules come in handy right before you leave. If you are short on time, the first paragraph of each guide is enough: it holds the essentials.

"Africa" is part of the "Destinations" section. Inside it are the subsections "Egypt", "Tanzania" and "Tunisia". They make it easier to find guides on a single country. If your route goes beyond the continent, take a look at the neighboring sections: "Europe", "Asia", "North America", "South America", "Oceania" and "Antarctica".

We update the guides, since ticket prices, visiting rules and schedules change often. Before your trip, look at the check date in the text and open the official source we refer to. Confirm visa requirements, insurance and medical questions only with the official authorities of your own country and of your destination. New countries and routes are added gradually. Pick the guide that matches your stage of planning and put the trip together step by step.
