A small editorial team writing guides for independent travel. We travel ourselves, but we haven’t been everywhere, so we check prices, opening hours and how to get there against official sources.
tourism.com.de is run by a small editorial team. We plan, write, check and update the guides on this site. We travel ourselves: by train, by hire car, with a backpack. But we haven’t been to every place we write about, and we don’t pretend we have.
Independent travel: what to see in a country or city, how to put together an itinerary for a few days, where to stay, how to get from the airport, how much money to budget per day and which documents you need to enter the country. We also run country guides, an events calendar for travellers and a few trip-planning tools. The site is published in 16 languages.
For each guide, we decide which places go in and why. A place or service makes the list because it suits the trip, not because someone pays for it. Every recommendation has a downside, and we name it: a museum, hotel or tour doesn’t suit everyone, so we say who would be better off choosing something else.
We check opening hours, prices, addresses and how to get there against the official website of the museum, city or transport operator, and we put the date of the check in the text. If we couldn’t verify something, we don’t present it as an exact figure. Where we haven’t been ourselves, we say where the information comes from; our own experience is marked as our own. Read more on the ‘Our editorial process’ page.
Prices, entry rules and timetables change faster than descriptions of sights, so we review articles with prices, visas and opening hours more often than others. The ‘Updated’ date changes only when we have actually changed something, not for all pages at once.
From affiliate commissions: if you book a ticket, hotel or transfer through a link marked ‘Ad’, we receive a share from the partner. Your price stays the same. The order and choice of services don’t depend on commission: where there is no partner, or the partner isn’t worth recommending, we say so. Details are on the ‘How we make money’ page.
We are not a travel agency: we don’t sell tours, and we don’t book hotels or tickets in our own name. We don’t pick insurance for you and we don’t give medical advice. On visas, entry and health, we refer to the official source and don’t replace it: before you travel, check the website of the consulate or ministry.
A price has changed, a museum has closed for renovation, a bus no longer runs? Write to us via the contact page and we’ll check and correct it.
