Types of travel

The destination is chosen, but the format of the trip is not. You can go to the sea in the shoulder season, fit a city into one day, rent a car and drive around an island, or head to the mountains for trekking. This choice determines the budget, the length of the trip and what you need to buy in advance. The "Types of travel" section gathers articles by the format of the trip, not by country.

This section has no articles of its own: it brings together subsections. Most of the texts answer the question of where and when to go. There are roundups of warm destinations by month: where to swim in January, February and March, and which Egyptian hotels have a warm pool in December. There are close looks at one place in one season: Cyprus in May, Istanbul in November, the cost of a vacation in Alanya. Holiday trips form a separate group: New Year in Rio de Janeiro and on St. Barts, Easter in Greece, Germany's Christmas markets.

The second large group is routes for a short stay. Istanbul, Amsterdam and Monaco are covered as one-day routes, and Prague is laid out day by day. Alongside them are day trips from Porto and Munich, a loop around Sicily by car and the Amalfi Coast by boat. Individual sights get practical texts: the Pantheon in Rome, the Royal Albert Hall, the Theater of Dionysus in Athens, the museums of Italy, the Plitvice Lakes.

The remaining articles cover narrower tasks. For active travel, these are the ski resorts of Andorra, trekking in the Tian Shan and a route through Jasper park in Canada. For families, these are Greek resorts with a gentle entry into the sea and Croatian hotels and campsites with water play areas. There are hotel roundups, for example in the center of Tbilisi, a review of a cruise ship and texts that show countries through details: Brazilian cuisine, the lights over Lake Paasselkä in Finland.

We start every article with a short answer to the main question, and the details come below. Practical blocks follow: how to get there, which tickets to buy in advance, how much time to allow. We check prices and opening hours against official websites and state the source and the date of the check. We write about the downsides directly: lines, rain in season, expensive dates, a long journey.

The section suits those who plan a trip on their own and want to compare options before buying tickets. It is useful when the dates are already known but the place is not, or the other way around. If you need a complete guide to one country, it is better to look for it in the sections by destination. We only inform: there is no booking on the site.

Start with what you have already decided. If you know the month, open the seasonal roundups and compare the weather and the sea at several resorts. If you know the city, take a ready-made one-day route and check it against the map. Then read the articles about the specific sights on that route to understand which tickets to buy in advance. The budget is easiest to work out as the last step.

The subsections divide the articles by task. "Vacation ideas" and "Tourist ideas" help you choose a destination and a season. "Affordable vacation" covers the budget, "Active recreation" covers mountains, skiing and trekking. "Entertainment" and "Water parks" hold holidays, events and family hotels with water play areas. "For a note" gathers practical tips, and "Interesting facts" tells about countries through food, natural phenomena and the history of places.

We update the articles. The climate by month changes little, while prices, schedules and entry rules change often. So before your trip, look at the date of the check in the text and at the official website of the sight. Check visa requirements and insurance terms only with official sources, and we point out where to find them. Choose a format, read several articles on it and put together your own day-by-day plan.
