Destinations

The destination is chosen, and now there are more questions than before. You need to decide how many days to allow, which neighborhood to stay in, which tickets to buy in advance and how to get there. These are the questions that usually bring people to the "Destinations" section.

The section has no articles of its own. It is the entry point to the subsections by continent, and the guides are kept there. The largest group covers cities and individual sights. There are overviews of the main places in Istanbul, Barcelona, Berlin, Hong Kong and Vancouver, with a note on where you need a ticket in advance. There are also guides to a single site: the Acropolis Museum in Athens, the NEMO museum in Amsterdam, Blarney Castle, Piazza Navona in Rome, Trafalgar Square. These texts cover tickets, how to get there and the order of the visit.

The second group answers the question of timing. We look at when to go to Antalya and Malaysia, what Munich is like season by season, what to expect from Thailand in May and from Istanbul in December. Next to them are articles on where to stay: the neighborhoods of Nice, all-inclusive resorts in the Maldives, beachfront hotels in Italy, family hotels in Greece and Ayia Napa. Events are collected separately: summer festivals in Lebanon and Croatia, Bonfire Night in Lewes.

The third group covers practical matters and routes. It includes a comparison of plane, train and bus on the way to Portugal, a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong, and eSIMs for South Africa. The routes vary in scale: South Moravia, Tbilisi and Kazbek, climbing Kilimanjaro, the northern lights in Abisko, a "Eurotrip" route with transfers between cities. There are comparisons of regions, such as Istria or Dalmatia, and themed roundups: thermal spas in Hungary, ski resorts in Sweden, souvenirs from Italy.

Every article follows the same structure. The key points come first, briefly, followed by practical blocks: tickets, getting there, season, costs. Each figure comes with its source and the date it was checked, and we verify the data against official websites. We write about the downsides plainly. If a place has closed, we say so and suggest an alternative, as in the article on Jurong Bird Park in Singapore.

The section is meant for people who are planning a specific trip and want to make their decisions before departure. It suits families choosing a hotel and travelers putting together a route through several cities. It is less useful if you have not even settled on a continent yet and are looking for inspiration. The texts here are for reference, not for inspiration. If you need a detailed account of a country's history, it is better to look for it in other sources.

It is easiest to start with the subsection for your continent and then move on to the country or city. Read the article on the season first: prices, crowds and the range of places that are open all depend on it. Then choose a neighborhood and a place to stay. After that, move on to sights and tickets, and leave transport and mobile connectivity for last. If the trip covers several countries, start with the article on the route and transfers. This order saves time.

Within the section, the articles are divided into the subsections "Europe", "Asia", "Africa", "North America", "South America", "Oceania" and "Antarctica". Judging by what has been published so far, "Europe" and "Asia" are currently covered in the most detail. The other subsections have fewer articles for now, and we do not hide that. For example, for Africa there are already Kilimanjaro and mobile connectivity in South Africa, for Latin America the Colca Canyon and the Uyuni salt flat, and for Cuba an overview of the resorts.

We update the guides. Ticket prices, opening hours and entry rules change, so the texts are periodically checked against official sources. The date of the last check helps you see how fresh the data is. On visas and insurance, we only point out what to look at and where to check it with the official authorities. Before your trip, still open the website of the museum, park or carrier itself. That way you will see the changes of the last few days and travel with an up-to-date plan.
