Hotels and sanatoriums in Adler: why we removed these collections
Here we had seven roundups on Adler: first-line hotels, options with a private beach, family hotels, sanatoriums and guesthouses. All seven have been removed, and we do not list names or prices.
Adler was sold as a more affordable version of the neighboring resort: the same sea, a shorter drive from the airport, a lower bill. That exact combination was the first thing to stop working. From January 1, 2026, EU persons are prohibited from providing tourism services in Russia and advertising them.

Why we deleted these guides
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. The Adler hotel lists kept working on the site after that date, serving their single purpose: leading the reader toward choosing a vacation spot. We believe that purpose no longer belongs in texts about Russia, and we removed the materials in full.
The financial side of the argument looks like this. The share of oil and gas revenue in Russia's budget fell to roughly 22 percent in 2025 and 2026, while the share of non-oil-and-gas revenue rose to roughly 78 percent (OSW Centre for Eastern Studies, 09.12.2025). A resort town living on hotels and food service feeds exactly that second category, and this should be said directly rather than replacing the argument with talk about oil.
First line by an airport that did not work for years
The main selling point of these roundups was proximity: a few kilometers from the airport to the beach. That exact selling point was the first to collapse.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, 11 airports in southern and central Russia stopped operating, among them Krasnodar, Anapa, Rostov-on-Don, Gelendzhik and the airports of Crimea; the closures were first announced as temporary, then repeatedly extended (The Moscow Times, 26.04.2024). Partial reopenings began only in 2024 and 2025: Elista in May 2024, Gelendzhik in summer 2025, Krasnodar on September 11, 2025 with a limited schedule (The Moscow Times, 11.09.2025). The picture did not become stable: in May 2026, 13 airports in southern Russia were closed at the same time (NV, 05.2026).
There have been no direct flights between the European Union and Russia since February 28, 2022, when the EU Council closed its airspace to Russian carriers under Regulation 2022/334 (EUR-Lex). We make no claims about the current schedule of any specific airport: we have no verifiable source, and guesswork is unacceptable in a text like this.
The "first line" formula itself, around which half of the removed texts were built, also deserves a word. It is a purely marketing category: it promises that the room is a few minutes from the water and says nothing about the road to the coast or the situation in the region. As long as both of those things were taken for granted, the formula worked. Once they stopped being taken for granted, it became a way of avoiding the main point, and we will not keep using it.
Why we say nothing about sanatoriums
Three of the seven removed materials were about sanatoriums and guesthouses, meaning treatment-oriented vacations. This topic requires a separate caveat.
Sanatorium treatment is a medical service. Claims about its effectiveness, indications and quality require medical sources, which we do not have and would not gather for a country that EU readers are officially advised not to visit. That is why we do not write that such treatment is good, and we do not write that it is bad: we simply make no claims about it and do not publish such roundups.
We should also note that the sanatorium format in our texts was aimed at older people and at those traveling to improve their health. That is the most vulnerable part of the audience for such a section, and it is exactly that audience that an advertising text without a single word about official warnings harms the most. We consider this sufficient grounds not to look for a compromise version of such materials.
On top of this there is a general practical detail that applies equally to hotels and sanatoriums. Visa and Mastercard suspended operations in Russia on March 10, 2022, and cards issued outside the country do not work there (The Moscow Times, 06.03.2022). Germany's Federal Foreign Office confirms this in its current travel advice and also warns against travel to the Russian Federation (Auswärtiges Amt).

Where to go instead
The request was about an affordable sea, a private beach at the hotel, and a quiet family vacation. The live sections of the site answer that: Turkey with Belek and Kemer, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Cyprus, and Greece. A long season and private beaches are available on all of these coasts, the route is direct, and payment and insurance work normally.
The general explanation of the editorial decision for the entire section is collected in the section hub. Related topics: our position on Sochi and Adler attractions and our position on Sochi beachfront hotels.
Where we stand
We believe that hotel roundups are an advertising genre, and that publishing one about a country waging war against a neighboring state means helping sell vacations there. In our assessment, for Adler there is an additional argument: the entire point of its previous positioning rested on a convenient road, and that road stopped being predictable back in 2022.
We do not list the properties that appeared in the deleted texts. A named hotel in an explanatory article still reads as a recommendation.
We write about a state and its policies, not about people based on their passport. There are people in Russia who spoke out against the war and received prison sentences for it. Our decision not to publish travel guides to Russia is about money, sanctions, and reader safety, not nationality.

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions
Why were sanatoriums also removed, if that is treatment rather than leisure?
Because our texts about them were ordinary consumer roundups, not medical materials. More on this in the section about sanatoriums above.
Is Adler airport operating?
We do not answer this question because we have no verifiable source on the current schedule of a specific airport. Confirmed data on closures and flights from the EU is collected in the section on the first line and in the table above.
Isn't pricing information useful to the reader?
The texts in this section contain no prices at all. The cost of accommodation is part of a commercial offer, and we no longer make offers.
What is now at the old addresses of these roundups?
Old links in all language versions lead to this page. Instead of an error, you see an explanation and a list of destinations.
Why is there a separate text about Adler rather than a combined one with the neighboring city?
Because the Adler roundups rested on their own arguments, primarily the proximity of the airport. A separate text allows us to explain exactly what the previous positioning of this place rested on.
In short
Seven collections of hotels, beaches, and sanatoriums in Adler have been removed entirely. Data on closed airports and flights from the EU is gathered in the section on the front line and in the table above. The sanctions ban effective January 1, 2026 is also noted there. Why we do not write about sanatorium treatment is explained in a separate section. Seaside destinations are listed above.
