Movie studios are no longer closed workshops. Seven studios around the world welcome visitors on guided tours. You walk through Diagon Alley from Harry Potter, stand on the set where Ancient Rome was recreated for Cleopatra, and examine props from Star Wars.
Tickets work differently at each studio. Warner Bros near London sells dated time slots (as of 09/2026, official website). Cinecittà in Rome is closed on Mondays. Below are seven studios: what you will see there, plus prices and opening hours where known.

1. Warner Bros Studio Tour London
The tour goes through the working soundstages in Leavesden near London. You walk through Diagon Alley, step into Dumbledore's office, and see the Nimbus 2000 broom and Hagrid's motorcycle. A separate area shows how the special effects and animatronics were created.

2. Cinecittà
Europe's largest film studio opened in the 1930s. Ben-Hur, Cleopatra, and La Dolce Vita were filmed here, and Federico Fellini worked here (according to The Guardian's article). The Cinecittà si Mostra exhibition displays costumes, sketches, and props, and nearby stands a reconstruction of Broadway built for Gangs of New York.

3. Paramount Pictures Studios
The oldest operating studio in the US is located in Los Angeles. Titanic, Forrest Gump, and Transformers were released here. The studio covers 65 acres and 30 soundstages, and there is no Stage 13 (according to The Guardian). There is a $1.5 million replica of a New York street and a large Blue Sky Tank. In the evening, there is an after-dark tour with flashlights.

4. Studio Ghibli Museum
The museum of the Studio Ghibli animation studio is located in Mitaka, near Tokyo. Totoro greets guests at the entrance, and a soft Catbus sits on the second floor. Hayao Miyazaki wanted the museum to be "put together like a film" and for young visitors to be treated like adults (according to a review in The Guardian).

5. Film City
Film City is called the spiritual capital of Bollywood in Mumbai. The studio was opened to the public in 2014 (according to The Guardian). The two-hour tour takes you through sets with a helipad, a temple, and a church, and if you are lucky, you may catch a scene being filmed.

6. Atlas Film Studios
The world's largest studio by area lies 5 km from Morocco's Ouarzazate (according to The Guardian). Visitors are greeted by giant Egyptian-style statues near a replica tomb and the coliseum built for "Gladiator."

7. Filmpark Babelsberg
A working studio near Berlin, in Potsdam. Visitors can see sets ranging from an Eastern garden to a medieval town, which are used for Halloween horror events in the fall. The main attraction: stunt shows in a 2,500-seat arena with explosions, motorcycle jumps, and staged fights (according to The Guardian).
