11 Hotels in Vienna: center, Opera and the way to Hauptbahnhof station

The train arrives at Wien Hauptbahnhof early in the morning. Ten minutes later you want to be in your room, not searching for a taxi across the city. Vienna is compact, and you can get from the station to the center quickly, so the neighborhood you sleep in matters more here than the hotel category.

All ÖBB long-distance trains stop at Hauptbahnhof, and the station itself opened in October 2014, combining the western, southern, and eastern routes (City of Vienna).

Important for fall 2026: from September 7, 2026 until the end of October 2027, the S-Bahn section between Praterstern and Hauptbahnhof is closed for repairs, trains are being rerouted (as of: 09/2026, WienTourismus notice about the S-Bahn repairs). The metro runs as usual, so a hotel in the center remains a convenient option.

A design hotel in a nineteenth-century building: two dozen rooms and suites in the style of the thirties, honey-colored walls, Makassar wood finishes, marble bathrooms. You can walk to the Albertina, the Hofburg, and the Vienna State Opera.

How to get from the airport to the station

Vienna Airport is connected to Hauptbahnhof by train, so you get from the terminal to the station without long transfers (according to WienTourismus on stations). The train is a better deal than a taxi: you avoid city traffic, and the schedule is aligned with flights.
