Sharm El Sheikh is the Red Sea bays squeezed between the Sinai Mountains and coral reefs. Five stars and all-inclusive are not rare here: half of the hotels sit on the first line. The difference between them comes down to the area, the beach, and the kids' facilities.

How to choose a first-line hotel in Sharm El Sheikh

The area matters more here than the star rating on the sign. In Nabq Bay you get a wide beach and calm water, but you will have to travel to Naama Bay. In Sharks Bay everything is close: reefs, hotels, and dive centers. Montaza and El Basha are quieter and greener.

In practice this means three things. Pick a hotel with a heated pool if you are traveling in winter. Look at the restaurant list if you do not want to eat only at the buffet. Check whether the kids' club is included in the price rather than sold separately.

The complex sits in Sharks Bay right on the Red Sea. A real garden is laid out on the roof, where you can take a break from the heat and the city bustle. All-inclusive dining takes place at the "Nora" buffet: international cuisine, with options for vegetarians and children.

In addition to the buffet, there are Italian, French, Greek, Indian, Mongolian, and Thai restaurants. "Felucca Seafood" serves fresh seafood, while "Waterfall" does grilling and offers shisha. The sports area includes a gym, aerobics, yoga, water polo, tennis and table tennis, football, boccia, and golf.

For relaxation you head to the SPA: massage rooms, sauna, steam room, hammam, and a therapeutic pool. A beauty salon operates nearby. The "Sunrise" kids' club runs activities and games every day, and a nanny can be arranged for little ones.

The resort occupies the quiet Nabq Bay area with its own sandy beach. There are seven pools here: with slides, an indoor heated one, and a separate kids' pool. Guests are fed at the main "Turquoise" restaurant, and there are also "L'Olivo" (Italian cuisine), "Epicure" (French), "Lalezar" (Turkish), "Mandarin" (Chinese), "La Churrascaria" (Brazilian), and "Salt" (seafood).

A spacious modern complex set on a white sand beach. At the front desk you can rent a car and book excursions, including horseback and camel riding.

Dining is spread across several restaurants: Al Sakia Sea Food Restaurant & Grill (fish, seafood, barbecue), Bella Vista (Italian cuisine), Taj Mahal (Indian), Sinai (Oriental), and Egyptian Restaurant (Egyptian). The Palm Beach bar serves coffee, fresh juices, and tropical cocktails.

The resort consists of a main building, nineteen two-story blocks, and three separate villas. Special mini-mobiles circulate around the property, so you won't have to walk across the entire complex.

The resort is sheltered on three sides by dense tropical gardens and opens onto the Red Sea on the fourth. The private beach has umbrellas, loungers, and bars. The dive center will take you out to the coral reefs.

For water activities there are three outdoor pools, one of them adults-only, and a family water park with eight adult and four children's slides.
