What Costa Diadema is like
💡 In short:
- The Costa Crociere ship entered service in November 2014 and became the largest vessel in the company's classic fleet.
- A 500-meter circular promenade deck runs around the hull.
- Prices and opening hours: 09/2026, verified on the official website
The hull is over 300 meters long, up to 37 meters wide, and the interior spaces are decorated with more than 7,000 works of art. Guests are greeted by reproductions of classical and modern paintings, sculptures and digital works by Italian artists. Plus a 500-meter promenade deck that wraps around the ship from bow to stern (as of 09/2026, official Costa Diadema data).
The promenade deck works like a waterfront. You can walk around the entire ship without stairs or detours. Loungers line the side of the ship, hot tubs are set up along the way, and bars and restaurants with sea views are open nearby.
Who the ship suits: families with children, couples and travelers who want to see several countries in one trip. During the day you go ashore in a new port, in the evening you come back to shows, bars and live music.
- Who it's for: families with children, couples and guests who want a wide range of entertainment on board.
- Not for: those looking for quiet and a small ship with few passengers.

The ship has 1,862 cabins, divided into four groups: inside, oceanview, balcony and suites. Sizes start at 17 m² (as of 09/2026, cabin specifications at Costa). Suites have a separate bedroom, living room, spacious bathroom and hot tub.
All cabins have air conditioning, a phone and a TV, and the minibar is restocked daily. Furniture is matched to the category: fold-out beds, dining and vanity tables, armchairs, wardrobes. If you're traveling as a family, book a cabin with a third and fourth berth: it works out cheaper than two separate cabins.
Category | What you get | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
Inside | cabin with no window, lowest price | those who spend the day outside the cabin |
Oceanview | natural light and a sea view | couples on a short itinerary |
Balcony | your own veranda and morning coffee outdoors | those who value the view and quiet |
Suite | bedroom, living room, bathroom with hot tub | families and guests on a long itinerary |
What to choose by budget: inside cabins are the most affordable, a balcony adds a view and space, a suite gives you the most room. On a transatlantic crossing, book a balcony: you spend several days in a row at sea. The catch: inside cabins have no window, and balconies and suites cost noticeably more.

The ship has three pools, with loungers and bars around them. The main pool is covered by a retractable roof, so you can swim even in cool weather. There are waterfalls near the water, and a small water park for children.
In the evening, themed open-air parties are held by the pool. Shows are screened on a large LED screen, music plays, and a disco gets going. If you want a spot by the water on a sea day, get to the deck before lunch.

Samsara Spa, sports and wellness
Samsara Spa spans four levels with a total area of 7,800 m² (as of 09/2026, Samsara Spa areas according to Costa). Inside there is a large gym, a spa center, facial and body massage rooms, saunas, Turkish baths, solariums and mud baths. Separate rooms are dedicated to fitness, pilates and yoga, and beauty salons are nearby.
For sports on the open decks there is a tennis court, a basketball court, a jogging track and a golf area. You can put together your activity schedule for the whole day. Runners should head out early in the morning: the deck is almost empty and the sun isn't beating down yet.
Theater, Eliodoro atrium and evening shows
The theater on the liner spans three decks, and the hall is decorated with elements resembling precious stones. The stage hosts musical, dance, and ballet groups, as well as actors, acrobats, and magicians. Shows run every evening, and you don't need to buy a separate ticket.
At the center of the ship is the multi-level Eliodoro Atrium with a cascade of light, colorful garlands, and marble decor. Around it are nightclubs, discos, bars, and restaurants, so the evening is packed until late at night. Live music can be heard from different decks, and the program includes shows, festivals, and fashion displays.
Rock fans should check out the Country Rock club with rock ballads. Before dinner, it's nice to sit in a bar with mirrors and wood paneling and grab a glass of wine, a cocktail, or ice cream.
Shops, casino, and 4D cinema
On the fourth deck there's a shopping center with galleries of stores. They sell clothing, jewelry, watches, perfumes, and souvenirs from well-known brands. Nearby are interactive kiosks where you can book excursions in the port cities.
The entertainment doesn't stop at night: there's a casino, a 4D cinema with moving seats, laser tag mazes, a photo gallery, a library, rooms with virtual simulators, and an internet cafe. On a quiet day, the library and the panoramic windows in the atrium will be enough for you.

Dining is organized on a full board basis. Each guest is assigned a table in one of the three restaurants included in the fare, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. Large windows face the sea, the interiors are done in golden tones with chandeliers, and the menu includes omelets, bean dishes, sausages, salads, pasta, pancakes, and fish.
In addition to the three main restaurants, there are four paid venues. At the Asian restaurant, chefs prepare dishes with acrobatic elements right in front of guests, and there's an Italian pizzeria and gourmet restaurants. At the buffet, you dine without an assigned table and at any time.
Kids' clubs and family time
For children aged three to seventeen, there are clubs with activity leaders. The program includes pool games, carnivals, sports competitions, and themed discos. Parents can meanwhile relax on an excursion or at the spa.
For little ones from six months to three years old, there's a playroom with toys. You can request a crib, stroller, or high chair for your cabin from the front desk. Wide corridors, spacious decks, and elevators make it easy to get around with a stroller.
Tips and what's included in the cruise fare
The service charge is automatically added to your account: €11 per night for guests aged fifteen and over, and €5.50 per child aged four to fourteen; children under four don't pay (as of 09/2026, Costa service charge rates).
What's included in the cruise fare:
- accommodation in the cabin category of your choice;
- meals in the main restaurants and buffet;
- entertainment program, pools, gym, and kids' clubs.
What you pay separately:
- drinks, if you're on a fare without drinks;
- paid restaurants, excursions, and Samsara Spa treatments;
- service charge, if it's not included in your fare.
The fare with drinks adds drinks at the table and reduces onboard surcharges (Costa fare system, 09/2026). The catch: the standard fare doesn't include drinks and excursions, so your final bill depends on your habits.
Dress code and what to bring
There is no mandatory dress code; guests dress according to the weather and their mood. People don't come to the evening dinner in shorts or a swimsuit, and standard restaurant etiquette applies. For the evening, bring an elegant outfit; for the daytime, casual and athletic wear is fine.
Useful items to bring include gadgets and chargers, batteries, memory cards, toiletries, and a small first aid kit. Bring warm clothes: it can be windy on the open deck in the evening.
Costa Diadema itineraries in 2026
In 2026, the ship operates on three routes: the western Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and South America (official Costa schedule). The ports include long stays, so you can see several cities in one trip.
Season | Region | Ports on the itinerary |
|---|---|---|
Spring and fall | western Mediterranean | Barcelona, Marseille, Savona, Palermo, Civitavecchia, Palma de Mallorca |
Summer | Northern Europe and repositioning cruises | Kiel, Norwegian ports, crossing to Barcelona |
Winter | South America | Santos, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Maceió, Tenerife, Mindelo |
Source | data as of 09/2026 |
The cost depends on the season, length, and cabin category. Summer dates and school holidays are more expensive, while winter sailings and repositioning cruises from Northern Europe are cheaper. It's convenient to compare options on the official Costa schedule.
Shore excursions should be booked in advance: the port stay lasts a full day, and groups fill up quickly. Mediterranean shore excursions on GetYourGuide can be filtered by city and time.

Costa Diadema changes regions by season, so the timing of your trip determines the itinerary. In spring and fall, the ship sails the western Mediterranean. In summer, it heads to Northern Europe, and in winter it operates off the coast of South America.
For mild weather, choose spring or early fall: the deck is comfortable, and there are fewer lines in the cities. If you want something exotic, take a winter sailing to South America: the ship crosses the Atlantic to the shores of Brazil. The catch: summer dates and school holidays cost the most.
How to get to the port and what to book in advance
In 2026, the most convenient embarkation ports are Barcelona or Kiel: most sailings depart from there (current Costa Diadema sailings). Buses and taxis run from El Prat Airport to the Barcelona cruise terminal, and the trip takes less than half an hour without traffic. If you're flying in on departure day, it's best to arrange a transfer in advance.
Spend the night before the cruise in the city so you don't depend on flight delays. Barcelona hotels on Trip.com can be compared by price and area in advance.
