Ski pass from 267 €: five large domains of France

A ski pass in France can cost less than in Austria. The five resorts below offer large domains at a reasonable price.

The French Alps are not limited to Courchevel with its above-average prices. The Tignes and Val d'Isere domain stretches for more than 300 km (official Tignes website, as of 09/2026). We checked rates, elevations, and trail kilometers against the resorts' official websites and picked five options where a week of skiing doesn't break the bank.

The prices in the table are only a rough guide for an adult six-day ski pass for the 2026/27 season (as of 09/2026, official rate sheets from Les Sybelles, Les 2 Alpes and Tignes; for Alpe d'Huez and Galibier Thabor, where the websites do not show the price, Alti Mag's summary). The final amount depends on the season dates and the skier's age. Before buying, check the rate on the resort's website so you do not overpay for your period.

1. Les Sybelles

Les Sybelles brings together six villages in Savoie: Le Corbier, La Toussuire, Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Saint-Jean-d'Arves, Saint-Colomban-des-Villards and Albiez-Montrond. The domain covers 310 km of slopes and is built around intermediate trails (Les Sybelles rates, as of 09/2026). The wide, sunny runs suit skiers who are confident but not chasing black trails.

A six-day ski pass costs about €307 (as of 09/2026, Les Sybelles 2026/27 rate sheet), and that is one of the lowest prices for this much terrain in Savoie. The villages are linked, so you can start the day in one spot and finish in another. If you want a large domain at a lower price, this is a good option.

2. Alpe d'Huez

Panorama of Alpe d'Huez from Pic Blanc

Alpe d'Huez sits on the sunny side of the Grandes Rousses massif in Isere. The domain offers 250 km of slopes, and its main local attraction is Sarenne, the longest black run in the Alps at 16 km (official resort website, as of 09/2026). Beginners ski in the lower section, where the slopes are noticeably gentler.

A six-day ski pass costs around 337 EUR (as of 09/2026, 2026/27 season, Alti Mag), so it is more expensive than Les Sybelles and Galibier Thabor. In return, the trail selection is wider, and you can ride Sarenne in one go.

3. Galibier Thabor

Galibier Thabor connects Valloire and Valmeinier in Savoie. It is smaller than its neighbors on this list: 160 km of slopes between 1,430 and 2,600 m (official Valloire website, as of 09/2026). Most of the runs here are intermediate, and the altitude keeps the snow all winter.

A six-day ski pass costs around 279 EUR (as of 09/2026, 2026/27 season, Alti Mag), one of the lowest prices in this roundup. For less money, you get a compact but cohesive domain without long transfers between villages.

4. Les 2 Alpes

Les 2 Alpes in Isère combines winter and summer skiing. It has 200 km of slopes, and the glacier at 3,400 m operates even in the warm season (official Les 2 Alpes rates, as of 09/2026). The second advantage: one of the largest snowparks in Europe.

A six-day ski pass for the entire domain costs about 267 € (as of 09/2026, Les 2 Alpes 2026/27 rates). The long, wide slopes appeal to those who enjoy carving: there is plenty of room for a large radius. If you are planning a vacation in April, the glacier will give you snow almost guaranteed.

5. Tignes and Val d'Isère

Tignes and Val d'Isère offer 300 km of linked slopes and 79 lifts in one network. The Grande Motte and Pissaillas glaciers hold snow from November to May, so the season here is longer than at the other resorts in this list (rates and season on the official website, as of 09/2026).

Beginners ski on the gentle slopes near Col du Palet and above Tignes-le-Lac. Experienced skiers head up Grande Motte to 3,456 m, while freeriders go into Vallon de la Sache. Snowboarders get a snowpark at altitudes of 2,400-2,600 m and a boardercross line (altitudes and ski areas, as of 09/2026).

A family plus: the Famille Plus label. Children under eight get a free ski pass, the child rate applies up to age 18, and from age 75 skiing is free again (conditions for children and seniors, as of 09/2026).

A six-day ski pass costs about 468 € (as of 09/2026, Tignes 2026/27 rates), the highest price in this list. For that, you get the largest and snowiest domain of the five.

  • Not for: those who prioritize saving on the ski pass above all else.
  • Off the slopes: Le Lagon pool, Tignespace sports center, an ice rink, and ice diving.
  • Where to stay: hotels in Tignes on Trip.com.

Three more affordable resorts

If five domains are not enough for you, take a look at smaller resorts in the French Alps. There you will find options with a lower ski pass price.

  • Les Orres in the Hautes-Alpes: around €239 for six days, gentle slopes for kids and steeper runs higher up (as of 09/2026, 2026/27 season, Alti Mag; Les Orres rates).
  • Isola 2000 in the Alpes-Maritimes: reliable snow at altitudes from 1,800 to 2,610 m, check the six-day ski pass price on the resort's website (Isola 2000 rates).
  • Les 7 Laux near Grenoble: around €225 for six days, slopes for all levels and a modern snowpark (as of 09/2026, 2026/27 season, Alti Mag; Les 7 Laux rates).

Les Orres and Les 7 Laux are cheaper than all five domains from the first part.

When to go and how to save

The highest accommodation prices in the French Alps hold during school holidays. Christmas, February and Easter bring the most expensive weeks of the season. If you want the same domain for less, shift your trip to the first two weeks of January or the second half of March. Resorts in the shoulder season keep operating, while hotels and apartments cost noticeably less.

The ski pass also depends on the date. Resorts divide the season into periods, and the rate at the start of winter and at the end of the season is lower than at peak. Buy online in advance: at Valloire, when you buy a six-day ski pass online, Saturday skiing on arrival day comes as a bonus (offer on the Valloire website, as of 09/2026).

Save on accommodation, not on the slopes. Apartments in the village by the lift are usually cheaper than a hotel in the main town, and a kitchen cuts lunch costs. That way you pay less for daily logistics without trimming your time on the slopes.

Check whether the ski pass is included in the accommodation price. Some offers already bundle it in, and then the week works out cheaper than buying everything separately. Discounts for children and seniors should also be calculated in advance. Tignes conditions are described in the "Tignes and Val d'Isere" section above.

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions

Which resort in this list is the cheapest?

Among the large ski areas, it's Les 2 Alpes, around €267 for six days, and Galibier Thabor in Savoie, around €279 for 160 km of slopes (as of 09/2026, 2026/27 season, Les 2 Alpes rates, Alti Mag). Les Orres and Les 7 Laux are even cheaper, but those are smaller resorts with less terrain. If you specifically want a large ski area, compare Galibier Thabor and Les Sybelles.

Where is the snow most reliable?

In Tignes and Val d'Isère, and in Les 2 Alpes. Both resorts rely on glaciers, so skiing lasts until late spring. In Tignes the season runs from November to May (official website). For a short April vacation, this is the most reliable pair.

Where should I go with kids?

To Tignes and Val d'Isère: the resort has the Famille Plus label. The conditions for children are described in the "Tignes and Val d'Isère" section above. A second option is Galibier Thabor with its long intermediate slopes. Both resorts give you wide runs instead of narrow black descents.

Where can I ski in April and May?

In Les 2 Alpes: the glacier operates year-round, so the slopes stay open even in the warm season (rates). Tignes also runs until May thanks to its glaciers. The other three resorts in this list depend on the weather and usually close earlier. For a late-season vacation, go with Les 2 Alpes or Tignes.

How can I save on accommodation?

Look at apartments in the villages around the main base: in Les Sybelles that means Le Corbier and La Toussuire, in Galibier Thabor it's Valloire. Lodging near the bottom lift station costs more, but you won't need a car. Apartments with a kitchen are usually cheaper than a hotel for the same dates.

In short: what to book

If you want the cheapest ski pass, compare Les 2 Alpes and Galibier Thabor. If maximum terrain matters more, look at Les Sybelles. If snow reliability and a long season are the priority, choose Tignes and Val d'Isère. For April skiing, Les 2 Alpes works well.

Ski passes are sold online on the resort websites, and it's easier to look for lodging near the bottom lift stations. Hotel links for each ski area are in the blocks above: compare dates and pick a base that fits your route.
