Vacation in Georgia: resorts, hotels and season by the sea
Georgia works for a vacation any time of year. In summer people swim in the Black Sea, in spring and fall they wander the old quarters of Tbilisi, and in winter they ski in the mountains. The choice depends on what kind of trip suits you best.
We've put together the coastal resorts with their strengths and weaknesses, hotels with details from their descriptions, and practical seasonal tips. Below you'll find where to go with kids, when to take time off, and what to see on your first visit.

Which resort to choose
💡 In short:
- Beach, port, and entertainment: go with Batumi and its surroundings.
- Quiet pebble beaches and mineral water treatments: Kobuleti.
- Diving and the clearest water: Kvariati.
- Peace and quiet among subtropical greenery: Mtsvane Kontskhi.
Georgia's coastline is short, but the resorts differ a lot from one another. In some places the water gets deep right at the shore, while in others the shallows stretch for dozens of meters. Some towns have a lively nightlife, others are built around sanatoriums and quiet. So it's worth choosing a place based on the purpose of your trip, not at random.
Batumi: the port and main entertainment
Batumi is considered the country's main resort and its gateway to the sea. It has a large port, so the city sees many visitors from other countries. Hotels cater to both high-end and budget travelers. In peak season rooms get booked up early, so booking ahead matters for Batumi.
The city has a park, a dolphinarium, and singing fountains. The "dancing water" fountains draw young people in the evenings, and the Orthodox churches appeal to history lovers. If you're coming for infrastructure and entertainment, Batumi is the right fit.

Choose accommodation in the newer districts if you want to walk to the sea: from the central promenade it takes 10-15 minutes on foot (according to the map).
- The catch: in summer the promenade is crowded, and finding a free parking spot is difficult.
Kobuleti: pine trees, mineral water, and sanatoriums
Kobuleti is smaller than Batumi and noticeably quieter. The resort is known for its pine forests and clean air, and its beaches are made up of fine pebbles. Mineral water springs bubble up in the area, so several sanatoriums operate in the town. Their main focus: gastrointestinal and cardiovascular conditions.
People come here with children because the water entry is gentle and safe. Younger visitors also have things to do: excursion offices offer trips around the area, and the amusement park will keep you busy for a few hours. For a quiet vacation, choose Kobuleti; for a lively one, go with Batumi.

Kvariati is chosen for diving. The water here is notably clear, and the underwater world is interesting even for experienced divers. For everyone else, the resort offers wide beaches and beautiful mountain scenery above the sea. It's worth booking accommodation in advance, especially in July and August.
- The catch: there aren't many comfortable hotels in Kvariati, so most tourists have to make do with private guesthouses.
Sarpi: the Turkish border right next door
Sarpi sits right on the border with Turkey, literally a stone's throw away. The area attracts visitors with its scenic cliffs, subtropical climate, and warm sea. The village has plenty of cafes and small shops selling goods from both countries, so it's easy to try both Georgian and Turkish cuisine. Finding accommodation is usually not a problem: there are enough guesthouses. If you're interested in the flavor of two cultures at once, spend a couple of days in Sarpi.

Mtsvane Kontskhi is located near Batumi and goes by the second name Green Cape. The resort is immersed in subtropical greenery, it's quiet here, and the air smells of pine and citrus. Oranges grow right on the streets, and locals are fine with you picking them.

It lies 9 km from the center of Batumi and stretches for almost a kilometer along the coast (according to the official Batumi tourist office). The collection includes roughly 5,000 herbaceous plants and 1,800 tree species, and a visit takes 2-3 hours. Some of the paths run along slopes above the sea, so bring comfortable shoes and water.
Anaklia: a young resort with a water park
Anaklia became a resort only recently. Just yesterday this was a small village, and today the promenade is lined with new hotels and a water park that kids will love. Adults can enjoy clubs and discos. You can get to Batumi without transfers, as connections are well established. For those who want to combine the beach with evening entertainment, Anaklia is a good fit.

When to go on vacation
Georgia welcomes visitors at any time of year; you just need to decide what kind of trip you want. If you are heading to a ski resort, plan your vacation from late November to mid-April. In winter, it is better to reach the mountains by plane or train rather than by car: avalanches are common at that time and roads often get closed.
For sightseeing and the beach, there are two good windows: April to June and September to October. In May you can catch several seasons at once: there is still snow in the mountains, orchards are blooming in the foothills, and the seashore is already warm. In autumn, Georgia harvests grapes and fruit, so you can expect not only warm waves but also tastings.
In July and August, the coast is hot and crowded. If you are planning a trip for those months, book your hotel well in advance, otherwise many options will be taken. Trains are a convenient way to travel between cities, and tickets are worth checking a couple of weeks before your travel date.
Beach vacation with kids
The right resort for a trip with a child depends on the children's ages and how long you are staying. If your child is over four and you are going for several days, choose Batumi: the water park, zoo, dolphinarium, and the promenade with playgrounds will keep you entertained all day. The water quality in this port city is not as good as at other resorts, but you will not be bored here.
© Sosotedrd · CC BY-SAPhoto: Sosotedrd, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0), Wikimedia CommonsFor a beach vacation, it is better to stay in Kvariati, Kobuleti, or Ureki. That is where you will really enjoy swimming, and you can make occasional trips into Batumi. Ureki is known for its sandy beaches: the local sand is considered therapeutic, so people come here not only to swim but also to improve their health.
The dolphinarium in Batumi holds shows every day except Monday, starting at 4:00 PM. A ticket costs 30 lari, and children under six get in free if they do not occupy a separate seat. Admission to the aquarium at the dolphinarium costs 5 lari (as of 09/2026, on the dolphinarium's website). The show itself lasts about 35 minutes. Check showtimes on site: extra sessions are added in high season.
Food for a child is usually not a problem. The local cuisine is spicy and aromatic, but any cafe will make you mashed potatoes or milk porridge. Fruit at the markets is cheap and fresh. Bring familiar boxed cereals and jarred baby food with you for the first few days: the selection in local stores is narrower than in Europe.
All inclusive or breakfast only
When choosing a rate, you may be torn between breakfast only and all inclusive. Food is not a problem at the resorts: there are plenty of cafes and restaurants, but the expenses can easily blow your budget. All inclusive usually covers meals and the hotel's facilities: pools, saunas, sports areas, and children's playgrounds. You will not have to tally up expenses every evening, and your vacation will be more relaxing.

Choose all inclusive if you are traveling with kids and do not want to look for a place to eat every day. If you plan to go on excursions and have dinners in town, a breakfast-only rate will be enough.
What to see on your first visit
Georgia has enough sights for several trips. The old quarters of Tbilisi showcase medieval architecture, while the newer part of the capital surprises with futuristic buildings. Near Tbilisi you'll find the Betania Monastery with its 11th-century frescoes and the ancient city of Mtskheta, often called the "second Jerusalem."
© Kober · CC BY-SAPhoto: Kober, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsOutside the capital, it's worth seeing the cave monastery of Vardzia, the David Gareji monastery complex, the medieval Alaverdi Cathedral, and the Gelati Monastery. A separate trip: Sighnaghi, a town with Italian-style streets where marriages are registered around the clock. Svaneti has preserved its famous defensive towers, and scattered across the country are the Khertvisi and Ananuri fortresses and karst caves.
The list of sites is so long that you can't cover it all in one trip. If you're planning to visit several cities, choose your itineraries in advance: it's easier to book excursions a few days before your trip.
