Almond blossom in Mallorca: when to go and where to see
At the end of January, Mallorca becomes covered in white and pink lace: the almond trees come into bloom. Millions of old trees stand in flower on plantations, in gardens, and along roads, and for a few weeks the island turns into one continuous garden.
We have gathered everything you need for a trip during this season: bloom times by region, weather, the best roads and villages, hikes, and ready-made tours.

When almond trees bloom on Mallorca
💡 In short:
- Almond trees bloom from late January to early March, with the peak in February.
- In the Tramuntana mountains, trees bloom later than on the plains.
- The island radio station Inselradio Mallorca publishes a current bloom status by region.

Nobody can give an exact date: the weather decides everything. After a warm winter, trees bloom earlier; after a cold one, later, with differences between years reaching several weeks. Mid-February gives you the best chance of catching the island in full bloom.
Timing also depends on the terrain. On the Pla plains and in the center of the island, almond trees open first; in the Tramuntana mountains, one to two weeks later. If you arrive in January, stick to the south and east. By late February, move up into the mountains.
A convenient way to track the bloom in real time is the bloom barometer from the island radio station Inselradio Mallorca. Every week they mark where trees have already opened and where they have not yet.
Weather on Mallorca during bloom season
Central Europe still has snow at this time, but on Mallorca spring is beginning. Days are dry and mild, the sun shines for several hours, and you can comfortably walk around in a light jacket.

The sea is still too cold for swimming. But for hiking, cycling, and long walks on the beaches, the weather is excellent. Bring a windbreaker: in the mountains and on the coast it gets noticeably chilly after sunset, and occasional rain does still happen in February.
Another plus of the season: accommodation, car rental, and excursions cost noticeably less than in summer. Large hotels are often closed at this time, but small estates, apartments, and some hotels welcome guests.

Where almond bloom is most beautiful
The best places for the bloom are concentrated in three areas of the island. Below we break down each one: what to see, which road to take, and where you will get the strongest views.

East of the island: Manacor and the coast
If you are driving, take the Ma-4030 road between Son Servera, Sant Llorenç, and Son Talent. Here almond trees line the roadsides almost continuously. Another worthwhile stretch runs from Porto Cristo to Felanitx: plantations alternate with olive trees and old estates. Around Manacor the bloom lasts longer than in the west of the island, because winter is milder here.

The classic route of the season leads from Palma to Sóller. The Ma-11 highway climbs into the mountains through orange, lemon, and almond plantations. An even more spectacular option is to ride the historic Ferrocarril de Sóller train: wooden carriages travel for an hour through gardens, fields, and almond groves right to the town.

- The catch: at the station ticket office the ticket is more expensive, so buy it online in advance.
Southwest: from Andratx to S'Arracó
Near Palma lies the hilly area of Andratx. Winding roads twist between peaks, finca estates, and almond groves. A beautiful stretch leads to S'Arracó and on to the hiking areas near Puig d'en Farineta and around Sa Bruta.
- The catch: routes here require confidence with heights; the trails are narrow and in places run above a cliff.

Most of the harvest is exported, but the island has plenty of almond products. Try Gato d'Ametlles, a moist almond cake baked without flour, and the liqueur Flor d'Ametler. Turrón, a Spanish sweet made from almonds and honey that people in Spain give at Christmas, also makes a good gift.
A special souvenir here is perfume with the scent of almond blossom. The Flor d'Ametler fragrance is made by hand in the family workshop Benito in Pont d'Inca near Palma. The flowers are picked by hand and distilled using traditional methods, so production is limited (as of 09/2026, flordametler.com). Besides the perfume, there is eau de toilette, hand cream, and soap from other producers, so there is plenty to choose from.
Hikes during almond bloom season
In winter, Mallorca becomes a popular hiking destination. When the noise on the island dies down, nature lovers find their best routes here.

Trails across the island are marked, and you will find options for both beginners and experienced walkers. In January, when buds appear on the branches, the inland areas become covered in a white haze. The most popular hiking area lies in the northwest: near the villages of Valldemossa, Sóller, and Esporles, routes into the mountains begin with views of blooming almond groves.
A separate climb leads to the monastery mountain Puig de Randa: from above, a panorama of almond plantations opens up. If you do not want to go on your own, book a guided hiking tour.
From Valldemossa, a route starts through almond plantations to the Raixa estate, into the Pastoritx gorge, and on toward the Bay of Palma. Bring water and a hat: in the mountains the sun is warm even in February.
Almond bloom tours in 2026
Package tours to Mallorca are sold by almost all tour operators, including Lidl Reisen and TUI. Some companies specialize in trips with an almond bloom program. ASI Reisen offers an eight-day hiking tour with flights, accommodation in a four-star hotel, and hikes in the Tramuntana: prices start at 1,825 € per person (as of 09/2026, ASI Reisen prices and program). The price includes flights, seven nights, most meals, and transfers.
Trendtours puts together a similar package: flights, a four-star hotel with half board, and excursions, for example to an almond perfume workshop and to the mountain villages of the Tramuntana. If you specifically want the bloom season, book early: February departures sell out faster than others.
⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to go to Mallorca for almond bloom?
Mid-February gives the best chances. By then most trees on the plains are in bloom, and in the Tramuntana the bloom is just gaining strength. After a warm winter, some almond trees finish blooming earlier, so it is worth monitoring the bloom barometer by region before your trip.
Where is almond bloom most beautiful on Mallorca?
Three areas give the strongest views: the east around Manacor with the Ma-4030 road, the Palma-Sóller route on the Ma-11 highway, and the southwest from Andratx to S'Arracó. In the mountains, trees bloom later, so by late February it is worth shifting to the Tramuntana.
Can you catch almond bloom without a car?
Yes. The historic Ferrocarril de Sóller train runs from Palma directly through almond groves, and in Sóller you can transfer to the tram to the port. Train tickets are also sold online, where they are cheaper than at the ticket office.
Is it cold on Mallorca in February?
The sea is still cold for swimming, but the days are already springlike and mild. During the day you can walk in a light jacket, and in the morning and evening a windbreaker comes in handy. Rain does happen in February, but it is more often short showers than prolonged bad weather.
How much does an almond bloom trip cost?
An eight-day hiking tour with flights from ASI Reisen starts at 1,825 € per person (as of 09/2026, ASI Reisen). An independent trip works out cheaper, especially if you book accommodation and car rental in advance.
In short: what to book
The bloom season is short, so it is best to put your plan together in advance. If you want a hiking format and a full package, take the eight-day ASI Reisen tour with flights and hikes in the Tramuntana. If you are traveling on your own, book accommodation in Sóller, Valldemossa, or near Palma and drive along the Ma-11 highway.
For a short trip, a Palma-Sóller train ticket is enough, and it is cheaper online. Come in mid-February and keep one day free for the southwest toward S'Arracó.
