7 Common Mistakes Tourists Make When Planning a Road Trip in Canada
Planning a road trip in Canada? Avoid common mistakes involving long distances, fuel, accommodation, weather, wildlife…
Read more →Straight to the point: this is the section for partner and sponsored content. It carries articles and reviews from partners: travel services, hotels, carriers, insurance companies and makers of travel goods. They are placed on a commercial basis, most often through the Collaborator platform. Put simply, the site gets paid for these posts. We say so directly, with no fine print and no caveats.
Why they have a section of their own. Because honesty with the reader matters more than convenience. We write the guides and tips ourselves and check them against our own rules. Partner texts come from advertisers, who have a goal of their own. Mixing the two would be unfair to you, especially when your travel money is at stake.
That does not mean sponsored content here is weak. We keep the bar high and accept only what relates to travel: destinations, accommodation, transport, staying connected on the road, insurance, gear, documents. Even an advertising text has to answer a question a person arrives with before a trip. If an offer is completely off topic or reads like empty advertising, we turn it down.
A few words on how Collaborator works. It is a marketplace where an advertiser finds a site, and the site receives a finished text or a brief for one. For us it is a channel for requests, nothing more. Placement through the marketplace does not cancel the editors' right to refuse a piece that does not suit the site in topic or quality.
We do not overpraise. A partner wants to talk about its product and show its strengths, and that is fine. But we ask that the text stay useful for someone getting ready to travel. You should take away something you can apply: how to choose, what to look at, where the pitfalls are. A brand name alone is not enough for that.
How to recognize this kind of content. It is labeled as advertising or partner content, and the label sits in plain view, before the first paragraph. That way you understand the context right away: this is a paid post, not an editorial guide. From there it is up to you to decide how interesting it is and whether it will help on your trip.
The line between sponsored and editorial content is strict here. We do not sell our own reviews and we do not rewrite conclusions to suit an advertiser. A partner text is never presented as an independent recommendation from the editors. Regular articles also contain partner links to services, and we cover those separately, on the page about how the site earns money. Here the whole piece is paid for, and that is stated openly.
One more important point: alternatives. A partner review of a service does not mean there are no other options. In our own roundups we still compare services and name their weak points, while sponsored content stands apart and has no effect on those comparisons. That way one brand's advertising does not block the bigger picture, and you see what there really is to choose from.
Why the site runs these posts. They help the project stay alive: the income goes toward keeping the site running, checking and updating the guides, and the authors' time. It is an honest model that many travel publications use. We simply do not pretend it is not there.
What we promise on our side. Not to publish spam, dubious schemes or offers that could leave a traveler without money or without a place to stay. To keep sponsored texts within the site's subject. To label them honestly. Read these pieces with their nature in mind: there is useful information in them, check terms and prices with the service itself, and draw your own conclusions.
