Flight from Bangkok to Phuket
Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, AirAsia, Nok Air, and Thai Vietjet fly from Bangkok to Phuket. Departures go from two airports: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. Flights operate from early morning to late evening, so you can almost always find a convenient time.

Services are operated by the state-owned Transport Co (999) and private carriers. Buses depart from the Sai Tai Mai southern bus terminal, and some services leave from Mo Chit 2 (Chatuchak). VIP-class buses seat 24-32 passengers, each with their own seat.
What to choose. VIP class gives you more space and fewer stops along the way. First-class buses are cheaper but take longer. Second class saves money, but there's almost no comfort.

Train toward Phuket
There's no direct train to Phuket: the railway only gets you as far as Surat Thani, and from there you need to transfer to a bus or minivan.
Trains now depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat station, not Hualamphong as before. During the day, train No. 43 runs: departure at 07:30, arrival in Surat Thani at 16:20 (as of 09/2026, southern line schedule). Night train No. 39 leaves at 22:50 and arrives at 07:50, and it has sleeper berths (night schedule).
A combined train plus bus ticket costs about 1,000 baht (as of 09/2026, train tickets). The night train is convenient because you can sleep on the way, and in the morning you transfer straight to a bus to the island.

Driving toward Phuket

The distance from Bangkok to Phuket is about 860 km along Highway 4 (route data). Without long stops, the drive takes 10-12 hours.
Along the way you'll pass through Phetchaburi, Chumphon, and Phang Nga. You can stay overnight at a provincial hotel and see the country from the inside, not just from an airplane window.

There is no direct sea connection between Bangkok and Phuket, so by water you can only get there with several transfers: first to Surat Thani or Krabi, then by ferry between the islands.
This route takes several days and costs more than flying. In bad weather, ferries are canceled, especially during the rainy season from May to October. If your time is limited, this route is not suitable.
Phuket is connected by ferries to Phi Phi, Krabi, and the islands of Phang Nga Bay. But those are local crossings, not a route from Bangkok.
