Nusa Dua: 15 five-star resorts for a calm beach holiday
Nusa Dua grew out of a 1970s government project. Back then, Indonesia's first resort zone was laid out on Bali's southern coast. Today it is 350 hectares of gardens and lagoons on a calm stretch of the Indian Ocean, where almost every hotel carries five stars.
Choosing between two dozen resorts based on photos is hard: they all have pools, spas, and buffet breakfasts. We looked at fifteen Nusa Dua hotels and Nusa Benoa properties based on what you can only see on the ground. Below you'll find cards with each one's location and standout feature.

What to know about Nusa Dua hotels
💡 In short:
- The core of the zone is secured: there are checkpoints at the entrance, vehicles are inspected, and a small fee is charged for access.
- Resorts fall into two groups: the more formal Nusa Dua and the livelier Nusa Benoa to the north.
- A beach with no waves almost everywhere, the reef absorbs the ocean swell.
Planning a stay here is easy because everything is compact. Hotels sit nearly side by side, and you can walk to the neighboring resort along the shore or take a free shuttle. For you, that means minimal transit and maximum time by the pool.
Most of Bali's largest hotels are located in Nusa Dua. That makes the area a good fit both for travelers who want to switch hotels mid-stay and for families who value predictable service.
The northern part, the Tanjung Benoa peninsula, looks different. Locals live there too, and a temple, a mosque, and a Chinese pagoda-style house stand nearby. The hotels are simpler and cheaper, but boat trips, diving, and speedboats to the islands are right there.
1. Grand Hyatt Bali 5*
© Lasthib · CC BY-SAPhoto: Lasthib, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe largest single-brand hotel on the island sits fifteen minutes from the airport (on the map). When it opened in 1991, it had 636 rooms, and no Bali hotel under one brand has topped that number since. The grounds feel like a botanical garden: several pools with a lagoon, cascading waterfalls, and waterslides.
Dining is a strong point here. Salsa Verde serves Italian cuisine, and on the roof of the same building the Salsa bar offers cocktails and ocean views. The Japanese Nampu serves sushi, yakitori, and tempura. At Pasar Senggol, designed like a night market, you'll find Balinese seafood and performances in an open-air amphitheater.
- Who it's for: families with children and couples, because waterslides, the lagoon, and evening shows are all on site.
- Location: about 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport (on the map).

The green grounds flow into a cascade of panoramic pools with a river pool. Gading serves international dishes, Homaya prepares Balinese cuisine from fresh ingredients, and Ja'Jan Bistro offers snacks and blended teas. The beach lounge bar is known for its grill and barbecue with live music.
- Who it's for: couples and families who want a consistent beach with no waves and no low tide.
- Nearby: Bali Collection shopping center, a five-minute walk away (on the map).

3. Ayodya Resort Bali 5*
© St · CC BY-SAPhoto: St, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe resort is built as a Balinese water palace: stone statues, bas-reliefs, fountains, and lagoon pools amid lush gardens. Exotic animals roam the grounds, which children love. The white-sand beach with umbrellas and the lagoon are unaffected by low tide, and from the bright rooms you'll see a flowering garden or the ocean.
There are four restaurants. Genji serves Japanese cuisine, Octopus handles home-style Italian, and Waterfall covers Indonesian. The Lagoona grill bar on the beach works well for dinner by the water. In the evening, the on-site theater stages national dances and dynamic shows with elaborate sets.

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions
Where in Nusa Dua is there a beach without waves?
The reef calms the ocean swell along almost the entire zone, so swimming is safe even with kids. INAYA Putri Bali and Ayodya Resort Bali have even sand and a lagoon with no low tide. Hilton Bali Resort has its own secluded beach below the cliff, and The Ritz-Carlton Bali has a wide white-sand beach with a chapel.
How is Nusa Dua different from Nusa Benoa?
Nusa Dua is a gated zone with a security checkpoint, smooth roads, and beachfront hotels, and prices here are higher. Nusa Benoa to the north is livelier and cheaper, with local neighborhoods, boats, and water sports nearby. If you want predictable service, choose Nusa Dua; if you want energy and value, look at Benoa.
Which hotel in Nusa Dua should I choose with kids?
Look at Grand Hyatt Bali, Melia Bali, and Holiday Inn Resort Bali Benoa: they have water slides, kids' pools, and kids' clubs. At Ayodya Resort Bali, animals roam the grounds, and Bali Tropic Resort & Spa runs the Krishna club. For little ones, rooms with direct pool access at Holiday Inn and Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa are convenient.
How long does it take to get from Ngurah Rai Airport to Nusa Dua?
The drive takes about 15-20 minutes without traffic (on the map). The airport is in Denpasar, and a toll flyover leads to the zone, so the time is predictable. It's best to book transfers and taxis in advance. The drive from the airport is especially short to Grand Hyatt Bali and Hilton Bali Resort.
What should I see near Nusa Dua hotels?
Along the shore, head to Water Blow, where waves crash into the rocks, and to Geger Beach. For shopping, Bali Collection mall is nearby. In the evening, many people go to Uluwatu Temple to watch the Kecak dance at sunset. All spots are reachable within a short drive from the zone's hotels.
