Where to stay in Yerevan

💡 In short:

  • Kentron, Arabkir, and Erebuni work well as a base.
  • In Kentron you stay near Republic Square and the Cascade.
  • Arabkir is quieter and cheaper, while Erebuni is farther from the center.
  • Districts, transport, and hotels: 09/2026, verified on the official website of the Yerevan mayor's office.

Residential neighborhoods and wide streets

Erebuni

History and local markets

Erebuni Fortress and calm courtyards

3-7 km (on the map)

All three districts are connected by metro and taxi, and within Kentron you can walk to most points of interest. If you are visiting for the first time, book a hotel in Kentron: in the evening you simply step out the door and find yourself among bars and coffee shops. For a calm trip with children, Arabkir is a better fit, and for history and markets head to Erebuni.

Prices in Kentron are higher than in the other two districts. Arabkir is built up with quiet residential neighborhoods, and in the mornings you will see more locals than tourists. Erebuni is the farthest from Republic Square, but nearby stands the fortress where the city began. Summer in Yerevan is hot, so you will appreciate a hotel with a pool and air conditioning.

If you happen to be in the city for the Vardavar holiday, do not miss it: on that day residents douse each other with water all over the capital, and the streets turn into one big party. Mount Ararat is visible from many parts of the city. Apricots in July are at their juiciest here, and they are worth trying at the market.

Kentron: Republic Square and the Cascade

Kentron is the historic and business heart of Yerevan, with Republic Square and the Cascade. From here you can walk to the Opera Theater, Northern Avenue, and the Vernissage market, where carpets and jewelry are sold. In the evening the district does not quiet down: wine bars, coffee shops, and local cuisine restaurants stay open. If waking up in the middle of the action matters to you, choose a hotel in Kentron and forget about taxis.
