A private beach doesn't mean a closed one. In Thailand the shore is open to everyone, and a hotel is only responsible for the stretch in front of its bungalows.

So in this selection, the words "private beach" matter less than water access, shade from trees, and distance to neighboring hotels. How to choose a bungalow hotel on Koh Samui

The first line on Koh Samui is occupied by two types of hotels. Bungalow resorts sit right on the sand, and you walk just a few steps to the water. Hillside villas give you a bay panorama, but you'll have to go down stairs to reach the beach.

Use the shoreline as your guide. The east side, with Chaweng, Choeng Mon, and Lamai beaches, is convenient for swimming with kids and for walking to cafes. The north and west, where Six Senses Samui, Napasai, and Four Seasons sit, face the sunset and stay farther from nightlife.
