Item | Estimate per person |
|---|---|

1. Morning coffee on the Royal Garden Plaza rooftop
Royal Garden Plaza sits right on Beach Road, and its rooftop looks out over Pattaya Bay. The chain coffee shop on the top floor opens early, and before eight in the morning it is almost empty here. Grab a table by the parapet: from here you can see the whole bay and the boats at the pier. A baht bus along Beach Road will get you to the mall, the fare is 15 baht (as of 09/2026, how baht buses work in Pattaya).

Thai iced coffee there is several times cheaper and tastes just as good. Take it with you and keep walking along the waterfront.
- The catch: coffee and pastry at Starbucks cost as much as a full dinner at the market.
2. Dongtan Beach in Jomtien
From Royal Garden Plaza, walk down the promenade to the baht bus stop heading toward Jomtien. The ride takes about fifteen minutes. Dongtan Beach is considered one of the calmest in the city: palm trees, fine sand, and gentle waves.
The central part of the beach is taken up by loungers and umbrellas, while the far third has almost no sand at all. Food and drink vendors work here too, so you do not need to plan lunch in advance. Swim in the shade of the palms and do not forget water: by midday the sun in Jomtien is intense.
- How to get there: baht bus along Beach Road to Jomtien, about 20 baht (as of 09/2026, baht bus routes and fares).
- Who it's for: for those who want sand and quiet without music from the bars.
- The catch: look for open sand in the far third of the beach, the center is fully occupied by loungers.

From Dongtan Beach, head up Pratamnak Hill, where Wat Phra Yai (Wat Phra Yai) stands with the golden statue of the Big Buddha. The statue is 18 meters tall and is visible from many areas of Pattaya (as of 09/2026, Wat Phra Yai guide). On foot, the climb takes about half an hour; a motorbike taxi or baht bus will get you there faster.
Next to the statue there is a viewpoint overlooking Jomtien, a running park, and outdoor gym equipment. Photos come out well from any angle here, especially in the morning when the light is soft. Bring water with you: there is little shade at the top.
- Cost: free entry (as of 09/2026, free entry to Wat Phra Yai).
- Dress code: covered shoulders and knees; wraps are provided at the entrance.
- The catch: the climb is up a long staircase with no shade, which is tough in the heat.

A short road leads from the Big Buddha along the same hill. You can walk to Pattaya Viewpoint in ten minutes (according to the map). At the top there is a naval radio tower and a military monument, and the whole bay and the Walking Street area open up in front of you.
Entry is free, and a small bar stand with drinks operates nearby. Come around sunset, about an hour before: that way you will catch the pink sky over the bay and avoid standing in a crowd at the railing.
- Cost: free entry; you only pay for drinks.
- Who it's for: those who want to see all of Pattaya from a single point.
Tours of Pattaya that include Pratamnak Hill and nearby spots are convenient to book in advance, especially in high season.

5. Sunset on the 34th floor of Hilton Pattaya
Start your evening at the Horizon rooftop bar at the Hilton Pattaya hotel. It occupies the 34th floor, and from the terrace you can see the entire bay and the city below. Every day from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM it runs a Sunset Session: a second identical drink is free, and cocktails on the menu start at 450 baht (as of 09/2026, official Horizon website). A DJ starts playing at 6:30 PM.

The dress code here is smart casual: beach shorts and athletic tank tops will be out of place. We recommend arriving at the start of the offer, so you can calmly pick a table.
- Cost: two cocktails on a 1+1 deal: 450 baht (as of 09/2026, Horizon menu).
- How to get there: baht bus to Second Road, 15 baht (as of 09/2026, fare to Second Road).
- The catch: tables right by the parapet get taken first.
6. Dinner at Ratanakorn Market
After the bar, head down to Thepprasit Road, where the Ratanakorn market runs in the evenings. Mostly locals eat here, and prices stay at street food level. A simple wok dish, a fresh coconut, and a fruit shake cost less than one cocktail on the Hilton rooftop.
Pick something cooked in front of you: rice with chicken, noodles with seafood, and fried bananas. The market opens toward evening and runs late into the night, so you'll have time to walk around and eat.
- How to get there: baht bus to Thepprasit Road, about 20 baht (as of 09/2026, route to Thepprasit Road).
- Who it's for: those looking for Thai food without the tourist markup.

7. Walking Street at night
Going to a club on a full stomach is easier. Walking Street runs along the southern edge of the bay and after ten in the evening turns into a stream of bars, discos, and go-go venues. Club Insomnia is visible from afar, and the crowd here is young and lively.
© PattayaPatrol · CC BY-SAPhoto: PattayaPatrol, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0), Wikimedia CommonsEven if you weren't planning to party, walking down the street is worth it: it's a free stroll among neon and music. A baht bus ride to the entrance costs 15 baht (as of 09/2026, fare to Walking Street).
- The catch: prices in Walking Street clubs are several times higher than store prices.
- Who it's for: those who want to see Pattaya's main night street.
8. Late-night snacks on Pattaya Beach
At night, Pattaya Beach doesn't sleep. Food carts operate between the promenade and the sand, and around midnight it's still busy. Grab fried squid with spicy sauce, meat skewers, or Thai sausage.

Food from the carts is several times cheaper than restaurants on Beach Road, and the view of the night bay is free.
- Who it's for: those who want to end the day without noise and lines.
⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions
How much money do you need per day in Pattaya on this route?
Budget around 1,500 baht per person, which is about €39 at the 09/2026 exchange rate (as of 09/2026, euro to baht rate for September 2026). The biggest expense is evening drinks and the rooftop bar, the smallest is transport: baht buses cost 15-20 baht per ride (as of 09/2026, cost of getting around the city). Without a club and a bar, the day will cost about half that amount.
When is the best time to go up to the Pattaya Viewpoint?
Come for sunset, about an hour before it. Entry is free, and the viewpoint is open until evening. In summer, the parapet gets crowded right after sunset, so go up earlier and take your time picking a spot. It's a few minutes' walk from the Big Buddha to the viewpoint (on the map).
Do you need tickets for the Big Buddha?
No, entry to Wat Phra Yai is free (as of 09/2026, temple guide). You only pay for transport if you're not walking. Bring clothing that covers your shoulders and knees; they usually hand out wraps at the entrance.
What if the coffee at Starbucks seems expensive?
Get Thai iced coffee from the carts on the promenade, it's several times cheaper. The coffee on the roof of Royal Garden Plaza is mainly about the bay view, not the drink. You can get the same view of the bay for free from the Beach Road promenade.
Is it safe to walk along Walking Street at night?
The street is crowded and well lit, and you can walk there until morning. Keep an eye on your wallet and don't leave drinks unattended in clubs. A baht bus to your hotel at night costs more than during the day, so it's better to agree on the price before getting on.
In short: what's worth booking
A day in Pattaya comes down to three things: riding at baht bus rates, free viewpoints, and eating at the market instead of restaurants (as of 09/2026, current baht bus fares). The Big Buddha and the viewpoints are easy to cover on foot without a tour. If you later want a guided route, check out Pattaya tours on GetYourGuide. If you have room in your budget for a bar, plan your sunset at Horizon in advance: the 1+1 deal runs for only three hours (as of 09/2026, Horizon). Everything else comes down to the weather and your stamina.
