The most comfortable months for fortresses, canyons, and waterfalls are April, May, September, and October. During this time you can walk around without oppressive heat, and the sea stays warm until the end of October.
At the peak of the season, all water parks, water attractions, and evening shows are open. In winter some beach cafes close, but historical sites are open year-round. Book a mountain excursion for the morning: by midday open areas become too hot.
For families with children, June and September are more convenient. The sea is warm, and the beaches are less crowded than in August.

The shoulder season starts in the second half of September and lasts until mid-October. The days are no longer as hot, the sea stays pleasantly warm, and there are noticeably fewer tourists. This is the time to book excursions if you are coming for history and nature.
Rain is possible in winter, but it alternates with clear days. Frost on the coast is rare. The air in Alanya is milder: the city is sheltered by mountains on two sides, so the wind feels weaker than in open Antalya.

Beaches of Antalya

Konyaalti Beach stretches along the western part of the city: a pebble strip, clean water, and a promenade for walks. Lara Beach to the east offers sand and large hotels; it is shallower there and more convenient with children.
Many beaches in the city are marked with the Blue Flag, a sign of clean water and good infrastructure (according to the Blue Flag registry). Some city beaches have changing rooms, showers, and lifeguards.
The catch with Antalya is that not all beaches are within walking distance of hotels. You can reach Lara or Konyaalti by bus or taxi, and in high season the trip will take time.
If having the beach right outside your window matters to you, choose a hotel in Lara or Kundu. In the city center the sea is farther away, but markets, restaurants, and transport are close by.

The main Cleopatra Beach is covered with sand and pebbles, and first-line hotels stand right next to it. The second well-known stretch is Damlatas Beach, right by the cave.
The water in the bays is clear, but the entry into the sea is steep in places because of the pebbles. Water shoes will come in handy on rocky sections.
During the day Cleopatra is crowded, but everything you need is nearby: cafes, lounger rentals, and water activities. If you want quiet, head to the eastern edge of the beach or to the small bays beyond the fortress.

Boat trips along the cliffs and bays run on schedule from May to October. Jeep safaris into the mountains and rafting on mountain rivers are designed as full-day outings. Canyons and waterfalls around Side and Manavgat are best seen with a guide.
