Qatar remains a Muslim country, but the rules for guests are softer than they seem. At Doha beach clubs, women sunbathe in bikinis, and alcohol is freely sold at the bars. The free city beaches are stricter: covered clothing is required there.

It features the indoor restaurant The Beach, The Bistro food court, colorful sun loungers, a lounge, and a VIP area. DJs play during the day, and there's an inflatable water park with slides for kids. Sports available include beach volleyball, table tennis, football, and teqball.

The dress code is relaxed: women sunbathe in regular bikinis. The ticket includes a lounger, towel, a bottle of water, and access to the water park. Part of the amount is returned as a deposit that you spend on burgers, snacks, and drinks.

You'll find 974 Beach Club near the Ras Bu Abboud metro station (Gold Line). The beach is easy to reach without a car, which is rare for Qatar.

Above the beach stands a public sculpture by artist Ugo Rondinone, and the strip itself runs along the bay with a view of the skyscrapers. Adult admission costs 35 QAR, children aged 6-14 pay 15 QAR, and kids under 6 get in free (as of 09/2026, 974 Beach). The ticket includes a lounger and an umbrella. For the general zone, adults and children pay different rates, while the second zone is adults-only and costs more. Check exact prices at the entrance or on the hotel's website. Katara Beach: a free beach in central Doha

Qatar does have free beaches, and one of them operates in the center of the capital. Katara Beach sits next to Katara Cultural Village, and admission is free (as of 09/2026, 1001beach).

The dress code is strict: women swim only in burkinis, and men need shorts below the knee. Even a long t-shirt with bike shorts won't work, knees must be fully covered. Swimming here is prohibited after sunset.

Available activities include catamarans, boats, and parasailing. Cafes and a playground are nearby, so it's easy to spend half a day here with kids.

Khor Al Udeid: Qatar's inland sea

The rest of Qatar's free beaches lie far from the capital. The easiest way to reach them is by rental car, as there is almost no public transportation.

Khor Al Udeid Beach, or the Inland Sea, is the main destination for long-distance routes. The reserve sits on the border of desert and water about 78 km south of Doha (as of 09/2026, Wikipedia). The reserve covers about 1,833 km² and is recognized as the largest in the country (as of 09/2026, Visit Qatar). It is included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Inland Sea is connected to the Persian Gulf by a narrow deep channel, and the only way to get here is over the dunes. On the sandy shores, locals set up barbecues with tents and grills. You can join them or stay at a campground nearby.

Right on the shore, Regency Sealine Camp operates with its own beach and cabanas under canopies. Available activities include dune bashing in jeeps and buggies.
